Education is the key to unlock the golden door of freedom. George Washington Carver Halloween has passed and Thanksgiving is around the corner. How fast the holidays are approaching with numerous educational and extracurricular activities taking place throughout CHPA Congratulations this semester to MERIT ROLL, HONOR ROLL, AND PRINCIPAL'S LIST Awardees. This is truly a reflection of pursuit of EXCELLENCE of our students. Thanks to the dedication of faculty and staff with the support of our parents. Speaking of thanks, November also brings the recognition of our Veterans for their service to our country. CHPA hosted two Veteran's Day assemblies, on March 11th. To this end we say: I can't shake every hand. I can't put flowers on every grave. I can't console every family member. But I can say thank you. You have given me the freedom I enjoy today. Your blood was shed in place of mine. Your family grieved so mine could rejoice. All I can say is thank you. There are not words big enough. There is not a hug strong enough. There is not a smile wide enough. All I can offer is thank you. You are my hero. You are in my thoughts. You are in my prayers. For all you've done, thank you. Finally, We at CHPA wish all a Happy Thanksgiving Holiday and wish each of you a joyful day with your Families. Please remember CHPA will be closed Novmeber 23rd, 24th, and 25th. Richard

Good day staff, students, parents, and guardians,Welcome to November and do we have a ton of activities coming up for this month. Don’t forget to vote this Tuesday, November 8th and we have our Veteran’s day assembly this Thursday November 10th beginning at 9:00 in the morning. All parents at CHPA are invited to attend this event in the DHPH High School. There is no school for students on Friday, November 11th in observance of Veteran’s Day. In addition, Thanksgiving break will begin Monday November 21st and continue to Friday, November 25th for all students at Chavez Huerta Preparatory Academy. There will be staff available to assist you on Monday the 21st and Tuesday the 22nd at both CCA and DHPH until 4:30 each day. To see a full list of events and activities, please see our calendar attached to this newsletter.

We would like to thank all parents and guardians who attended parent-teacher conferences. We had a great turnout and it is extremely important to speak with parents about their child’s academic progress. If you did not have the opportunity to meet with one of our faculty members, please contact the school at 583-1030 and we will schedule an appointment.

A reminder for parents and student about Dress for Success day. Every Wednesday, we do ask that students dress as they were going to a job interview and wear clothes that symbolize success in a professional community. Details of appropriate dress for Wednesdays can be found in the student handbook. I would like to send a shout out to our Cheerleaders and coach Terri for their support of breast cancer awareness. I would also like to recognize our student council for their participation in putting Thanksgiving Baskets together for needy families.

As always, if you have any questions or would like any additional information about activities at DHPH, please don’t hesitate to call us at 583-1030.

Thank you,Fred SeguraDolores Huerta Preparatroy High School 7-12 Principal2727 W. 18th St, Pueblo CO 81003719-583-1030

Wow - It's hard to believe that the First Quarter of the school year is already over! But what a great quarter - students participated in field trips to the El Pueblo and Steelworkers museums, the Nature Center, Pueblo Chieftain and Bolero lanes. We've celebrated CHPA Day, Johnny Appleseed, and hosted both a Heritage and Career fair! We were also able to celebrate or first Aguila Assembly of the year with over 200 student awards! All this within the first 8 weeks of school - I can't wait to see what's to come! I'd like to give a Shout Out to all our teachers and staff who help to make alll this happen - it's their passion for teaching and their commitment to CCA that shines through our hallways each and every day - encouraging students to succeed both academically and socially - Thank - You CCA Teachers and Staff! I'd also like to Thank our families that come along side us to support our Mission and Vision - Teamwork makes the Dream Work!

The significance of this photo--

well a wonderful lady in Colorado Springs, Ms. Tess, knitted over 30 hats for students at CCA.

They are being modeled by several kindergarten students who are more than ready for cooler weather if they can wear one of her beautifully knitted hats.

From the Kindergarten Teachers:

We want to give a big thanks and shout out to all our parents that attended Parent Teacher Conferences. It is always enjoyable sharing your kindergarten student's successes with you.

My goodness, November already! And November is a short student day month with no school on November 11, which is Veteran's Day and no school the week of November 21 to 25 which is Thanksgiving Break.

But never fear, Kindergarten is still rocking and rolling. We are continuing to build our reading skills and have bounced along all the sounds in the alphabet. Now, we are blending the sounds to make words. Books and reading to families at home is just around the corner.

Counting to 100, learning shapes, sorting, and word problems are the math skills we continue to build upon.

Our journals continue to fill up with our marvelous writing and illustrations.

Kindergarten is taking their learning outside the classroom this month. We will be going on a field trip to CSU-P on Tuesday, November 8. On November 16 we will be taking a full day field trip to the El PUeblo Museum and Center for American Values. Parents if you have any questions regarding the field trips, please contact your student's teacher.

To culminate our study of Native Americans and Pilgrims, on Friday, November 18 we will be having our annual Harvest Feast. Good Food and Good Times!

Yes, November may be a short month, but it is jam packed for our kindergarten students.

During this school year, all Mariachi students have been learning the skills, music theory, history of the Mariachi Tradition, and have been developing the ability to play from easy to challenging songs. Also, advanced Mariachi students (Mariachi Aguila) have performed and represented CHPA at many different places in our community. Throughout the rest of the school year, Mariachi students will continue to cultivate physical, mental and disciplinary challenges that are all acquired and developed through music." The entire student project took 2 weeks to prepare for and culminated on October 21, 2016. This was a project based learning for our unit on Immigration. It included students creating tri-board presentations at home and at school, of a heritage of their choice, a performance by Ms. Parks, who sang the National Anthem, Groupo XOCHITL (an Aztec Performance group) and our own Mariachi Aguila. Parents, grandparents, and extended family and friends were invited to attend the event. As an estimate, I had close to 200 people attend the event.
