Education
Kaisa Anderson
Did you know the United States ranks only ninth in the world for college
graduates? The United States has been slowly dropping through the years in the ranks
of education. There is a simple reason: the country is not receiving enough education.
A major problem contributing to education problems is cost. Another reason for the
struggle is students not caring or having no interest. How can we increase education
and make students aim higher? I will explore many possibilities so we can cause
change (White House).
I feel, and Im sure many others do as well, that The United States is lacking
education. We have fallen 16th in the world of 25-34 year olds still receiving education
(White House). As Aristotle said, The educated differ from the uneducated as the living
from the dead (Aristotle). Education is most valuable in life. I cannot express the
importance enough. It is a simple fact that higher education is the easiest way into the
middle class. Education beyond High School is becoming more and more required for
jobs, therefore, more education is needed. Education ties together with the economy. If
we dont have proper education, our economy will also fail. If we dont increase our
education we will be lowering and lowering ourselves in the ranks and be behind in
upcoming technology and advancements in the world.
A major contributing factor to education problems in the United States is the cost.
It is hard to pay for the government, so they raise tuition. However, if tuition is too high
then nobody will want to go to school, or they wont be able to afford it. The government
rewards students who work hard and offer more paid-for education, but even still, how

do we get them to work harder? We offer an education to make students more involved
and interested (Miao).
It seems as though students become less and less interested in school. To keep
students interested in gaining education, we should expand the classes. In an article
edited by Duan D. Dale, it says, An educational program can range from a single
meeting, document, or consultation to a multi-year series of interrelated materials and
events. A great variety of classes to suit interests of students should be provided.
James Bawldwin in his novel Go Tell It on the Mountain, states, It is nearly impossible
to become an educated person in a country so distrustful of the independent mind
(Bawldwin). I completely agree with this considering it is saying education rewards
conformism but punishes independence. Based on this I believe we need a large
variety of education available. Also, it is important for students to know that if they work
harder, then they will be provided money to further their education (Public Issues).
To fix the education problems, we need to get students more involved. There is
no way well be able to better the education in this country if we dont expand education
available to people. Education is most valuable and shouldnt be forced, but craved. I
believe it makes no sense to not want to improve yourself. Those who learn fast are
those who love to improve themselves. So, do those not wanting to be educated prefer
to not move forward? Do they wish to not learn anymore? The United States has been
slowly dropping through the years in the ranks of education, with costs and the lack of
interest. We will only keep dropping if this problem is not fixed. With the tools we have
available and a large future ahead of us, I believe it is possible to make a change in how

we learn, but it is dependent on how much people are willing to better themselves and
the world.
