workontheirowntimeandattheirownpace,focusandimproveontroubleareas,buildconfidenceusingLatin,andexpandonwhatthey’velearned.

Compatibility

IntroductiontoLatin,SecondEditionCoursewarecanbeusedonWindows98andhigher,MacOSXandhigher,andtheiPad.Instructionsonhowtoentercharacterswithmacronsonallofthesesystems(necessaryfortheWorkbookexercises)areconvenientlyprovidedoneverypageofthe

CoursewareanddiscussedintheStudentCourseGuide.

Fivecomponents

TheCoursewaremirrorsthestructureofthetextbook,witheachchapterhavinguptofivecomponents.Adescriptionofthefivecomponentsfollows:

1. Vocabulary.Vocabularysectionshelpstudentsreview,practice,andlearnthechaptervocabulary.Resourcesincludeaudiorecordingsofthechaptervocabularyreadbytheauthor

2. Readings.Readingsectionsaidstudentcomprehensionofthereadingsincludedinthetextbook.Thesesectionsincludeaudiorecordingsofthetextsineachchapterreadbytheauthorandher

colleaguesatUNC-Greensboro.Studentscanlistentotheseaudiorecordingsafterfirstreadingthetextssilently,tohelpappreciatespokenLatinandimprovepronunciation.Manyreadingsectionsalsoincludepre-readingworksheets.Theseworksheetsincludeexercisesforstudents

todobeforereadingthetexts,topreparethestudentforreadingthetextandimprovecomprehension.

3. Workbook.WorkbooksectionsincludealloftheexercisesfromtheIntroductiontoLatin,Second

EditionWorkbookbyEdDeHoratius,inonline,auto-correctingformats.Theseinnovativeexerciseshelpstudentsreviewandpracticegrammarlearnedineachchapterandbuild“reflexes”intheLatinlanguage.Exerciseformatsincludefill-in-the-blank,matching,multiple

Quiz.Quizactivitiesareautocorrectingactivitiesforavarietyofquestiontypes,includingmatching,

multiplechoice,fill-in-the-blank,andshortanswer.Theyaremarkedwithacheckmarkicon( ).

HotPot.HotPotactivitiesareautocorrectingexercisesforflashcardandfill-in-the-blankquestion

types.TheyaremarkedwiththeHotPotatoicon( ).

Bothoftheseexercisetypesaredesignedtobeself-explanatorysothatstudentscanclickandcompletetheseintuitively.Nevertheless,step-by-stepinstructions(withscreenshots)onhowto
