    Chamber Immersion Activities

    Classes and visitor groups will participate in a rangeof activities:

    Visitors will have the opportunity toimmerse themselves in the role of current

    and past Senators, while focusing on aspecic issue. They will study the issue,debate with other Senators, negotiate,argue and vote.

    A video presentation will introduce thevisitor to the Senates structure, conceptand history.

    Visitors will be able to browse interactivescreens on the Chamber walls and desks.

    Rather than providing answers in theform of traditional exhibits, the Institute

    will provide infrastructure for visitors togain insight into the deliberations of theU.S. Senate.

    Through a rich multimedia archive, theexhibits will allow visitors to exploreindepth the history of the U.S. Senate.

    This archive will eventually cover every

    action taken by the U.S. Senate, includingvotes on legislation and resolutions,conrmation of nominations, andratication of treaties.

    Oral History Project

    The Edward M. Kennedy Oral History Project is thelargest oral history project of an American political gureever undertaken.

    Done in partnership with the Miller Center of PublicAffairs at the University of Virginia, the project willdocument the contributions of Senator Kennedy duringhis 47 years of service and the role of the Senate itself inshaping Americas recent history.

    200 persons were interviewed, including current and former

    members of the Senate and House, Administrationofcials, foreign leaders, Senate staff, issue advocates,journalists, family and friends. Senator Kennedy personallyparticipated in 29 in-depth oral history interviews,producing over 60 hours of taped audio.

    Oral History Project

    The project will help bring the past alive for futuregenerations and enable students, scholars, journalists,and the public to learn about American democracydirectly from those who have had a role in guidingit. When completed, the audio tapes and transcripts

    will be available at the Institute to scholars, students,journalists and the public.

    Rafael Violy has been practicing architecturefor over 45 years and is known for hisimagination and rigor, with a provencapacity to create beloved civic,cultural and institutions.

    His projects include the

    Tokyo International Forum,the Cleveland Museum of Art,

    the Abu Dhabi Campus forNew York University, and theUniversity of ArizonaScience Center.
