PREAMBLE

Inthe2ndFacultyCouncilMeetingofAcademicYear2016-17,heldonMarch27,2017,itwasdecided to undertake a comprehensive review of the Fellow Programs at IIM Raipur. The recommendationsof the FPMReviewcommitteeregardingEFPMProgramwerediscussedandfinalizedinthe5thFacultyCouncilMeetingoftheAcademicYear2016-17,heldon12thJune,2017.Thismanualisanoutcomeofthediscussionduringthemeeting.WhilethismanualiscompletelyapplicabletoEFPMbatches2017andbeyond,thismanualsupersedestheexistingEFPMManualsdependinguponthestageascholarisinhis/herEFPMProgram.Thetablebelowpresentsthematrixregardingtheapplicabilityofrulestopreviousbatches.TheyearinthetableindicatesthestartyearofaparticularEFPMbatch.

INTRODUCTIONProgramObjectivesIIM Raipur started the Executive Fellow Programme in Management (EFPM) from academic year 2013-14.ExecutiveFellowProgram inManagement (EFPM) isauniquedoctoralprogramme inmanagementspecificallydesignedforworkingprofessionalswithmorethansevenyearsofworkexperienceinindustry.TheProgrammeisintendedtoprovideindustryprofessionalsanopportunitytomovetoacademiccareers,shouldtheysodesire,atcertainpoint in their life.Byproviding scholarly inputs to thosewhoalreadyhavedomain knowledgeof theirdiscipline,theprogrammeoffersprospectsofafulltime/parttimecareerwithinacademiaorinresearchpositionsoutsidetheacademiaworld.FollowingareasofspecializationareavailableatIIMRaipur:

MandatoryCourseWorkThemandatorycourseworksconsistsofthreemodulesofaround30days1each:Module1:FoundationinManagementThis is a 30 Days integrated course on foundation of management. The EFPM scholars who already have aone/two/three-yearfull-timeclassroombasedPGDM/PGPfromanyoftheIIMsorMBAfromIITs/FMSDelhi/XLRI/NITIEorMBA/PGDMfromreputedinstitutionsoruniversitiescarryingInternationalaccreditation(EFMD/AACSB/AMBA)wouldbeexempted fromModule1 (FoundationModule)provided that theyhaveobtainedaminimumCGPAof6ona10-pointscaleoranequivalent3.0ona4.0-pointscaleandthecorrespondinglettergrade`B.Module2:ResearchModuleIThisisafour-weekmoduleonbuildingbasicabilityforresearch.Module3:ResearchModuleIIThisisafour-weekmoduleonbuildingadvancedabilityforresearch.ComprehensiveExaminationOn completion of the second year course work, the scholar takes the comprehensive examination. Thecomprehensiveexaminationattheendofthe2ndyeartestswhetherthescholarhasobtainedasatisfactorylevelofknowledgeinhis/herfieldofspecializationandwhethers/hehassatisfactorilyintegratedthevariouscoursestakenbyhim/herinthearea.WhilethecourseworkformallygetsoverwiththecompletionofComprehensiveExamination, scholars are encouraged to continue taking advanced courses of interest even further into theirresearchwork.Ifacandidateisdeclaredpass,he/shegoestothenextstage,elsehe/shemaybeaskedtodoa

termpaperandonthecompletionofthetermpaperwithdrawsfromtheprogrammebygettingacertificatetitledCertificateinManagementTeaching.ThesisProposalFormulationAfter passing the comprehensive examination, the scholar enters the thesis writing stage. The scholar firstdevelopsathesisproposal,forwhichs/heidentifiesaresearchtopic,identifiesthemembersoftheThesisAdvisoryCommittee(TAC),givesaseminaronthethesisproposaltoIIMRaipursacademiccommunity,andgetsthethesisproposalapprovedbytheTAC.ThesisSubmissionandDefenseOnapproval of the thesis proposal, the scholarworks closelywith the TAConhis/her thesiswork.When thecandidates supervisor judges that the thesis is complete, the scholar gives a seminar on the thesiswork andsubsequently defends the thesis orally before a thesis examination committee. The Chairperson (FellowProgrammes)appointsthethesisexaminationcommitteecomprisingthethesisadvisorandothermembers.ProgramDurationThescholarisexpectedtocompletetheprogrammeinfouryears.Underspecialcircumstances,extensionmaybegrantedtothescholar.Inanycasetheentireprogramshouldfinishwithinsixyears.IfascholarfailstocompletetherequisiteacademicworksfortheExecutiveFellowProgrammewithinthisspecifiedperiod,thens/hehastowithdrawfromtheprogramme.Thescholarsregistrationwillbeterminatedonthecompletionofsixyears.TitleAftercompletionofallrequirementsoftheprogramme,thescholarisawardedthetitleoftheExecutiveFellowoftheIndianInstituteofManagementRaipur.OtherIssuesTherespectiveareasareresponsibleforthemonitoringoftheEFPMscholarsenrolledinthearea.Thisincludesissues suchasperiodicperformanceappraisal, continuationof the fellowship, scholarship,andcomprehensiveexamination.Thedecisionof the institute (Director) inmattersof interpretationof the ruleswillbe finalandbindingonallconcerned.


ADMISSIONIIMRaipursExecutiveFellowProgrammeaimstoadmitindividualswithexceptionalacademicbackground,strongmotivationanddiscipline,andpotentialtobecomeexcellentresearchersatinternationallevel.Sincethisprogramis exclusively for the professionals with industrial experience, it is expected that research scholars will worktowardsdevelopingamethodology,understandingandprovidingsolutionsforreal lifemanagementproblems,apartfromdevelopingatheoreticalframework.Applicantsareevaluatedontheirpastacademicachievements,motivationandpreparationfortheprogramme,lettersofrecommendation,scoresonstandardtests,statementofresearch,andapersonalinterviewwiththefaculty.EligibilityThe candidates for the programme must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of theuniversities incorporatedbyanactof thecentralor state legislature in India,orothereducational institutionsestablishedbyanactofparliamentordeclaredtobedeemedasauniversityundersection3ofUGCAct,1956,orpossess an equivalent qualification recognizedby theMinistry ofHRD,Governmentof India, or an equivalentqualificationfromaninstitutionapprovedbyAICTE.

o AMastersdegreeoritsequivalentinanydisciplinewithminimum60%aggregatemarksorequivalentgradepointaverage

Workexperience:Minimum07yearsofmanagerial/entrepreneurial/professionalexperienceasonApril1,2017aftergraduation.Theprogrammeisopentoallnationalities.AgeLimitCandidatesmustnotbemorethan50yearsofageason1stJune,2017. SelectionProcessCandidateswhofulfiltheeligibilitycriteriaasstatedabovearerequiredtosubmitanyoneoftheCAT,GRE,GMATscoresalongwiththeirapplicationform.ScoresofanyoftheseexaminationsincludingCATtakenduringthelasttwoyears(i.e.,onorafter1stJuly,2015)willbeconsideredvalid.AdmissiontotheprogrammeisopentooverseascandidatesincludingNRIsandforeignnationals.Candidateswhoalreadyhaveaone/two/three-yearfull-timeclassroombasedPGDM/PGPfromanyoftheIIMsorMBA from IITs / FMS Delhi / XLRI / NITIE or MBA /PGDM from reputed institutions or universities carryingInternationalaccreditation(EFMD/AACSB/AMBA)withaminimumCGPAof6.0ona10-pointscaleor3.0ona4.0-point scaleandanequivalent lettergrade B areexempted from this requirement, andcanapplydirectlythroughtheprescribedApplicationForm.Candidates will also have to submit a Research Statement that would help in understanding their clarity ofthought for future research. The candidates short-listed on the basis of their academic record, competitiveexaminations,recommendationsandresearchstatementwillbecalledtoIIMRaipurforapersonalinterviewforfinalselectionduringApril-Mayoftheyearofadmissionandthesuccessfulcandidateswillreceiveoffersbymid-Mayofthatyear.AcandidatereceivingadmissionofferfromIIMRaipurandacceptingtheofferwithinthestipulateddateneedstosendalongwithOfferAcceptance,anon-refundablecommitmentfeeof50,000(thedateofsubmissionwillbementionedinadmissionofferletter)whichwillbeadjustedagainsttheamountoffirstinstalment.AllcandidatesarerequiredtoregisterandsubmitthebalanceamountoffirstinstalmentoffeeonMay15,2017.InaugurationoftheProgrammewillbeheldduringthefirstweekofJuneoftheyearofadmission.

Acandidateiseligibletosubmitapplicationstoamaximumoftwoareas.Insuchcases,twocopiesoftheapplicationform,oneforeacharea,withallsupportingdocumentsmaybesenttogether.RelevantTestScoresRelevantTestScoresincludeCAT/GMAT/GRE.Thetestscoreshouldbevalidonthedeadlinesofthesubmissionoftheapplicationform.Testscoresoflasttwoyearswillonlybeconsidered.SupportingDocumentsThesupportingdocumentswillconsistof:

o CertifiedcopiesofSchoolandUniversitydegrees.CandidatesapplyingforwaivermustattachcopiesofbothsidesofthegradesheettoascertaintheequivalencebetweenthegradingsystemsofotherIIMs/IITs/Universities/Institutions,withoutwhich,theapplicationforwaiverwillnotbeconsidered.

o Certifiedcopiesofmarksheetsortranscriptsofgradesobtainedduringthecourseofstudyfortheabovedegrees. Transcripts in languagesother thanHindi andEnglishmustbe submittedalongwith certifiedtranslations.

o TworeferenceswiththeircontactdetailsandtheirrespectiveemailIDsfromacademicswhohavetaughtthecandidateorwithwhomthecandidatehasworkedcloselyonscholarlywork.However,thesupervisoratworkcouldwriteareference,ifthecandidatehasbeenawayfromtheuniversityforalongperiod.

Additionally,ascholarwillbeginacourseofindependentstudy(CIS)underafacultyadvisorfromhis/herarea.TheCIScomprises6creditsandwillcontinuetillMarchEndofthefirstyear.AscholarwillhavetopresenthisCISworksometimeduringApriloffirstyear.TheexactdatewillbecommunicatedbytheFPMOffice.Examinationforeachmodulewillbeconductedduringthebeginningofthenextmodule.Forthe3rdmodule,theexaminationwill be conducted during the time of CIS presentation. Themode of examination (Term paper /Writtenexam/Assignment)islefttotherespectivefaculty.CourseofIndependentStudyTheobjectiveofhavingaCourseofIndependentStudy(CIS)ReportistoallowtheScholarstoorganizeandreportthelearningsgainedinanindepthsystematicliteraturereviewundertakenintheirfieldofResearch.TheCourseofIndependentStudy(CIS)Reportshouldbeasubstantivecontributiontothescholarsknowledgeaswellastohisresearchtopicthroughintegrationofvariousliteraturesourcesinthedomain.However,theCISworkmayvaryfromoneacademicadvisortoanotheracademicadvisor.ThepurposeofCISistohelpascholarnarrowdownhisareaofinterestandhelphimcreateabaseforfinalisingthetopicofhis/herthesisproposal. It ispertinenttonotethattheCourseof IndependentStudy(CIS)Reportrepresentsavisibleconcreteoutputandwould,therefore,havedemonstrablepotentialenablingindividualstopursuefurtherworkonthetheme.The CIS work will be evaluated by the CIS Advisor himself/herself and another two faculty members to benominated by the Chairperson (Fellow Programmes) in consultationwith the scholars CIS Advisor. In case ofunsatisfactoryperformanceintheCISwork,thescholarwouldbegivenonemorechancetosubmithis/herCISworkwithinonemonthforre-evaluationfromthedateoffirstevaluation.AcopyofthefinalreportshouldbesubmittedtoFPMOffice.Second,ThirdandFourthYearThescholarswillcleartheComprehensiveExamination(CE)andworkundertheThesisAdvisoryCommittee(TAC)onaresearchtopic.Somepointersforthesecond,thirdandfourthyearareasfollows:

o Thescholarshouldpresentthethesisproposalbeforethefacultycommunityinthesecondyearafterthecomprehensiveexam.Thescholarshouldpresenthis/herthesisproposalmaximallybytheendofsecondyear.

o Thescholarwillhavetosubmitsix-monthlyprogressreportsdulyattestedbytheTACChairallthroughthesecond,thirdandfourthyear.

o Thescholarshouldideallygivethefinalthesisseminarbeforetheendof2ndtrimesterofsecondyear.Allexceptions fromtheproposedplan/ requests forextensionwillhave tobesubmitted through theTACChair for approval of the Chairperson (Fellow Programmes). Fellow Programmes Committee wouldnormallyapproveextensions;iftheextensionsarerecommendedstronglybytheTACChair.

o Forextensionrequestsbeyondthefourthyear,thecandidatewouldberequiredtomakethepresentationofthethesis/work-in-progressbeforetheTAC.TheTACwillgivethefeedbackforincorporationintothethesis.Extensionsshouldbesoughtonlyduringtheseminar,withaclearplanofactionforcompletion.

TransferfromOneAreatoAnotherAfterjoiningtheEFPMprogramme,ascholarmayapplybyDecember15thofthefirstyearforchangeoftheareaofspecializationifs/hesodesires.Followingconditionsneedtobefulfilledforchangeofarea:

o ThescholarmustobtaintheconsentfromtheAreasChairpersonsoftheoriginalareaofspecializationaswellasthedestinationarea.

o Ascholarcannottaketransferintoanareatowhichs/hewasoriginallyrejectedduringEFPMinterview.


AcademicAdvisorBytheendofModuleI,sentientarea,inconsultationwiththescholar,willdesignateAcademicAdvisor(AA)foreachEFPMscholar.ThescholarshouldsubmitFacultyAdvisorAppointmentForm(AnnexureII)dulysignedbytheAAtotheFellowProgrammesOffice.

o AllscholarshavetoconsulttheirAAforallacademicmattersrelatingtotheirelectivecourses,ComprehensiveExaminationandDissertation,ifany,untiltheysuccessfullycompleteComprehensiveExamination.

o TheresponsibilitiesofAAcontinueuntilhis/herscholarsuccessfullycompletesCISandComprehensiveExamination(CE).

o AAsmayserveasoneofthethreemembersoftheComprehensiveExaminationCommitteeandThesisAdvisoryCommitteeoftheirrespectivescholar.

CompletionofCourseWorkScholarsmustfinishallrequirementsofthecourseswithintheterminwhichthecoursesareoffered.Ifforanyreason,oneisnotabletocompleteamoduleorapartofit,hewillbeallowedtocompletethesamebynextyear.However,theprogramdurationof4yearswillremainasitis.

IIMRaipurfollowsasystemofrelativegrading.Thisimpliesthatthegradereceivedbyascholarisrelativetothegradesobtainedbytheclassasawhole.ItisthereforenotuncommontofindacasewhereascholarobtainsagradeofBforobtaining75%marks;since,theclassaveragewasaround73%marks.However,facultymembersmayprescribesomeabsolutelimitstoawardgradesaswell.Forexample,he/shemayfix30%marksasminimummarksforobtainingapassgrade.Ineachcourse,ascholar is thusawardeda lettergradeonly.Theweightedaverage forall courses takenbyascholarintheprogrammeiscalledtheCumulativeGradePointAverage(CGPA).PleasenotethattheweightsusedtocomputeCGPAarethenumberofcredithoursforacourse.AcademicCriteriafortheCourseWorkAscholarmustsatisfythefollowingconditionsattheendofthethirdtermoftheModule3ofthefirstyeartobeeligiblefortakingcomprehensiveexamination:

Scholars are advised to obtain their answer sheets from the Fellow Programmes Office ProgrammeAssistant/concernedfacultyandseekclarifications(ifany) fromthefaculty.TheFellowProgrammesOfficewilldisplaythegradesobtainedbyall thescholars inaparticularmodulethreeweeksafter theexaminations.Thenoticewillbedisplayedfor3daysduringwhichscholarscanverifytheaccuracyofthegrades.Afterthisperiodthegradeswillbefinalisedandinformedtothescholars.AfterthegradesheetsarefinalisedbytheFellowProgrammesOffice,norequestforre-evaluationorchangeingradewillbeentertained.

Thus,outofatotalof20sessionsinacourse,ifascholarisabsentfor13classesormore,thescholarsinsuchcasesmaybedebarredfromgivingexamsforthatparticularcourseandbegivenanFgrade.Thescholarswhodonotfulfiltheacademicrequirementsoftheprogrammewithinthestipulatedtime,theFPMCommitteemayreviewthesituationandmaycanceltheregistrationofthescholarinconsultationwiththeCISAdvisor.The scholarwhose registration has been cancelled on any groundsmay file an appeal to theDirectorwho inconsultationwiththefacultycouncilmayreconsiderhis/hercaseandtakedecisionaccordingly.ThedecisionoftheDirectoronsuchappealwillbefinal&binding.


COMPREHENSIVEEXAMINATIONObjectiveTheobjectiveoftheComprehensiveExamination(CE)attheendofthesecondyearistotestwhetherthescholarhasobtaineda satisfactory level of comprehension andapplicationof the concepts learned inhis/her fieldofspecialization.TheCEisnottotestknowledgeofadiscretecollectionoftopicsinthearea.Thecomprehensiveexaminationconsistsofatestcoveringthescholarsmajorarea. ThescholarsarerequiredtoappearfortheCEoncompletionoftherequiredcoursework,includingCIS.Ideally,ascholarshouldcompletehis/hercourseworkincludingCISbythemonthofAprilofthefirstyearandpreparefortheCE.TheChairperson(FellowProgrammes)informsdifferentAreaChairpersonsaboutthenamesofthescholarswhohavecompletedtheircourseworkandarerequiredtoappearfortheCE.ComprehensiveExaminationTheAreadecidesupontheformatofthecomprehensiveexaminationforeachscholar intheirarea.Thesamecouldbeofferedasawrittenexaminationorareviewofafewimportantpapersoratermpaperonspecifictopicoranyotherformatasdecideduponbythearea.ThecandidateshouldfinallyappearforanoralexaminationinfrontoftheAreaComprehensiveExaminationCommittee.AreaComprehensiveExaminationCommitteeTheChairperson(FellowProgrammes),inconsultationwiththescholarsacademicadvisor(AA)appointstheAreaComprehensiveExaminationCommittee(ACEC).Thecommitteeconsistsoftheacademicadvisor(asChairpersonoftheACEC)andtwoothermembers(samearea/relatedarea/oneexternal).Theexternalmember,ifany,canbeinvitedthroughskype,ifhe/sheisinadifferentlocation.InordertopasstheCE,atleasttwooftheACECmembersshoulddeclarethescholarsperformanceassatisfactory.IfmultiplenumberofscholarsinanareatakeCEinthesameyear,same/separateACECcanbeformedforeachscholarwiththerespectiveAAastheChairpersonoftheACEC.GradingoftheComprehensiveExaminationTheoralportionofthecomprehensiveexaminationwouldbegradedasPass|Fail.AgradePasssignifiestheminimalacceptableperformanceexpectedfromaEFPMscholar.AFailindicatesthattheanswerisnotuptothestandardsexpectedfromourEFPMscholars. TimeLimitforComprehensiveExaminationThescholarmustappearfortheComprehensiveExaminationbytheendofJuneaftercompletingthecourseworkphase.Underspecialcircumstances,thedateofCEmaybeextendedbyuptoamaximumof3monthsuponpriorapplication from the scholar and recommended by the sentient area through AA. In case of unsatisfactoryperformanceintheCE,onere-examinationispermitted.Butitmustbetakenbythescholarwithin3monthsofthefirstCE.IfthescholarsfailtoclearCEinthesecondattemptalso,hewillhavetowithdrawfromtheprogram.


THESISWORKObjectiveThethesisshouldbeascholarlycontributiontotheknowledgepertinenttotheunderstandingandresolutionofmanagementproblems.Thescholarshoulddemonstrateprofessionalcompetenceindevelopingamodelorasetofhypotheses,collectingandinterpretingdata,reachingconclusions,anddrawingtheimplicationsforresearchandmanagerialpractice.ThesisAdvisoryCommitteeWithinonemonthfromthedateofpassingthecomprehensiveexamination,thescholarmustidentifyaThesisAdvisor who will guide him/her as Chairperson in his/her Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC). This should becommunicated to the FPM office in writing along with the consent of the concerned faculty member. TheChairperson (FellowProgrammes) appoints the TAC in consultationwith the scholar and the thesis advisor. Ascholarmustproposehis/herTACwithinthreemonthsofpassinghis/hercomprehensiveexamination.The TACwill consist of threemembers, including the thesis advisor, at least twoofwhich,must be from thescholar'sareaofspecialization.Themembersarechosentocontributetothethesisresearchinacomplementarymannerandtoprovidehelpinliteraturesearch,researchdesign,modelconstruction,fieldwork,anddataanalysis.AnexpertoranacademicianfromoutsideofIIMRaipurcanalsobememberofthecommitteeprovideds/heisinterestedinthetopicofresearchandcansparetimetoguidethescholar.Ifthecircumstancesdemand,theChairperson(FellowProgrammes)may,inconsultationwiththescholarandtheChairperson of the TAC, reconstitute the TAC. A Co-Chairperson TAC will be appointed (from amongst TACmembers)ifTACChairpersonproceedsonlongleaveorquitstheservicesoftheInstituteandEFPMcandidatespre-thesissubmissionseminarisnotover.IncaseTACChairpersonproceedsonlongleaveorquitstheservicesoftheinstitutebeforethethesisproposalseminarofthecandidate,TACwillbereconstituted.TheroleofTACincludesthefollowing:

a. JudgingtheadequacyoftheresearchdesignfortheThesisProposalb. Attendingthesisseminartobepresentedbythescholarsandtoprovidefeedbackc. Providingwrittenfeedbackonthedraftthesissubmittedbythescholar

ThesisProposalSeminarTheproposalshouldcontainasurveyofliteratureandcontextdescriptiononthesubject.Scholarsshouldclearlystatetheirresearchobjectives,relatethesetotheresearchintheareaandproblemsinthiscontext,developamodelorasetofhypotheses,providecleardefinitions,describeanddefendtheproposedresearchmethodologyandhighlightthepotentialcontributionoftheproposedstudytotheory,practice,andresearchintherelevantareaofmanagement.WhentheTACagreesontheadequacyoftheresearchdesign,thescholarformulatesapreliminarythesisproposalandgivesaseminarontheproposaltotheinstitutesacademiccommunityforgettingfurtherinputstostrengthenthethesisproposal.ThescholarthroughTACshouldgiveat leasttwoweeksnoticetotheFellowProgrammesOfficeforarrangingtheseminar,intheinterestofbetterparticipationfromtheinstitutesacademiccommunity.Duringsummervacation,FPMofficewillscheduletheseminarsconsideringtheavailabilityoffacultymembers.ApprovalandSubmissionofThesisProposalAthesisproposalisapprovedonlyafterthescholarhasgiventhethesisproposalseminarandtheTACconcludesthatthesubjectappearsresearchableinthewayithasbeenproposed.TACwillascertainthatthefieldworkislikely to produce the required data and the analyticalmethodology if adequately carried outwill produce anacceptablethesis,andthescholarisreadyfordoingfullscaleresearch.


ThescholarsubmitstotheChairperson(FellowProgrammes)acopyofthethesisproposalapprovedbytheTAC.The scholars failure to fulfil this requirement within 6 months after passing his CE will be considered asunsatisfactoryperformance.Ascholarcanbegivenonemorechancetopresentthethesisproposalbytheendofsecondyear.Ifthescholarfailstoclearinthesecondattempt,his/herregistrationwillbecancelled.ThesisResearchUndertheTACsguidance,thescholarpursuesindependentandoriginalresearchtowardspreparationofathesis.Thethesismayrequirefieldinvestigationandobservationtoascertainandimpartiallyreportfactsandissuesofsignificancetoorganizationsandinstitutions.Thethesisshouldincludeeffectiveanalysisandevaluationofrelevantdatatoyieldindependentandsignificantconclusions.ResearchProgressReportInorder topromoteahealthysystemfor trackingacademicprogressof thescholarsandto facilitate theFPMCommitteetotaketimelyremedialactions,ifanyrequired,asix-monthlyreportingsystemhasbeenintroducedforscholarsfromsecondyearonwards.Theyarerequiredtosubmitasix-monthlyreportoftheirprogresstotheFellowProgrammesoffice.Thereportintheprescribedformat(AnnexureX)signedbytheChairpersonoftheTACshouldreachtheofficelatestbytheendofeverysixmonths.DraftThesisTheprincipal purposeof the thesis is to demonstrate the scholars capability tomake fruitful useof researchmethodsappropriatetotheproblemandtodevelopandhandleevidencesatisfactorily.Hence,thethesisshouldcontainastatementof(a)theresearchproceduresemployed,and(b)theextent,nature,reliabilityandsuitabilityof the evidence gathered. Clarity, conciseness and orderliness of writing and presentation are required. It isnecessarytoincludesufficientevidencetosupportthereasoningandconclusionssoastopermitotherscholarstobuilduponthem.Thelengthofthethesiswillvarywithresearchtopicandevidencerequired.Thethesisneednotbeofbooklength.ThescholarsubmitsonecopyoftheapproveddraftthesisdulysignedbytheTACmemberstotheFellowProgrammesOffice.Thedraftthesisneedstobesubmittedbeforeproposingthethesisseminar.PublicationRequirementsFollowingarethepre-requisitesforsubmittingthedoctoraldraftthesis:

DisciplineAscholarshallconformtoahighstandardofdiscipline,andshallconducthimself,withinandoutsidetheprecinctsof the Institute in amanner befitting the scholars of an institution of national importance. He shall have theseriousnessofpurposeandshallineveryway,trainhimselftoleadalifeofearnestendeavourandcooperation.HeshallshowduecourtesyandconsiderationtothefacultyandemployeesoftheInstituteandpaydueattentionandcourtesytovisitors.TheInstituteattachesgreatimportancetointegrity,honestyanddiscipline.AsenseofresponsibilityandahighdegreeofmaturityareexpectedfromallthescholarsbothinsideandoutsidetheCampusasbefitsfuturemanagers.ThefollowingbreachesofdisciplinemayattractimmediateexpulsionfromtheInstitute:

a. Anycaseofgrossmisconduct.b. Anyformofmalpracticeduringanexamination.c. Anycasesofreportingfictitiousdataforanempiricalstudy.

WithdrawalfromtheProgrammeAscholarwishingtowithdrawfromtheProgrammeatanytimemustgiveitinwriting.He/sheshouldalsoobtainaNoDuesCertificate(asperformatatAnnexureXVI)fromAccounts,Library,Hostel,ComputerCentre,FellowProgrammes Office, Programme Office, and submit it to the Fellow Programmes Office for settling his/heraccounts.Scholarswithdrawingfromtheprogrammewillnotbeissuedanyformaltranscriptsorpartialcoursecompletioncertificate. THESISEVALUATIONGUIDELINESTheFellowProgrammeinManagementattheIndianInstituteofManagementRaipurhas2yearsofcourseworkfollowedbyacomprehensivewrittenexaminationandviva.Uponsuccessfulcompletionofthecoursework,thescholarworkstowardshis/herdoctoralworkwhichculminatesintheformofathesis.PresentationofthethesisinapublicseminarandsuccessfuldefenseofthethesisinanoralexaminationisarequirementfortheawardofthetitleFellowoftheIndianInstituteofManagementRaipur.Accordingly,aThesisEvaluationCommittee(TEC)comprisingofthethree(ThesisAdvisoryCommittee)TACmembersofthescholarandtwoexternalexaminersisformulated forexamining thethesisof thescholar.Thethesis is firstexaminedby theTACof thescholarwhocertifythethesistobeoriginalandworthyofexaminersbyexternalexaminers.Athesismustbeevaluatedbytwoexternalexaminersbeforethescholarispermittedtoproceedtowardsthesisdefense.Thisdocumentpresentstheguidelinesforevaluationofthethesisofthescholarbeforeitcanbesubmittedforthedefense.Anexternalexaminerisrequestedtoevaluatethethesisonthebasisofwhetheritcontainsanoriginalideaoranoriginal application of an existing idea and whether it is ready for a defense. iv) Thedefensewilltakeplaceafteracceptanceofthedetailedcorrespondencefromthescholarbytheexaminer(s).Iftheexaminerisnotsatisfiedwiththefirstroundofcorrespondence,asecondroundofcorrespondenceshouldbesent.Inraresituationswherethesecondroundofcorrespondenceisalsonotfoundtobesatisfactorybytheexaminer(s),theEFPMCommitteecanmeetanddecideonthenextsteponacase-to-casebasis.

v) At the defense, all TEC members but the Advisor (or Joint Advisors) should sign two copies ofacceptance(oneforlibraryandonefortheFPoffice).

vi) Afterthedefense,thescholarwillincorporatea. allmodificationsasaddressedbyhim/herinresponsetoqueriesraisedbytheexaminer(s),andb. changessuggestedduringthedefense,forwhichamaximumperiodoftwomonthswouldbegiven

tothescholarfromthedateofthedefense.vii) The scholar should then get the acceptance form signed by the Advisor(s), who will ensure that

modifications/changeshavebeenincorporated,andsubmittwohardboundcopiesofthedissertationalongwithaletterfromtheAdvisor(s)certifyingthatchangesweremade.

CategoryIV:UnacceptableIfonememberoftheTEC findsthethesisunacceptable,thenopinionofafifthexaminerwouldbesought.
