President Eisenhower wanted to give back the power to Congress and the People. He wanted a return to laissez- faire but kept some of the New Deal programs. He was very liberal in wanting to directly help the individual. What important events occurred during Dwight D. Eisenhower’s presidency? There was an armistice in Korea. The McCarthy communist trials were put to an end. Alaska and Hawaii became states. The Soviet Union launched its first missile into space. Cuba became allies with the Soviet Union. How did Eisenhower betray the Truman Doctrine? Several countries such as Hungary, Cuba, and Vietnam needed America’s help however Eisenhower said no and soon after these countries were either taken over by the Soviet Union or became allies to gain the help they needed in the first place.
