Engineering Industrial Training Guidelines
_____________________________________________________________________________________
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Engineering Industrial Training (EIT) programme is part of the degree requirements at Kulliyyah of Engineering in order for the students to successfully complete their Bachelor of Engineering. EIT is an important programme since it will provide the students with academic and professional education in engineering courses. With practical working experience the students will enhance their skill and capability.
In general, EIT programme is to expose the students to actual working environment in any organisation or industry. This exposure will enhance and reinforce their mental, intellectual, emotional, physical and social ability. Indirectly, the faculty can establish a two-way communication and establish a good relationship and smart partnership with industries.
2.0 OBJECTIVES
2.1 To expose the students to the actual working environment.
2.2 To enhance and supplement the knowledge and skills of the students.
2.3 To develop the students in terms of ability, competence and interpersonal relationship.
2.4 To expose and familiarize the students to rules and regulations including safety practices in industrial environment.
2.5 To develop the spirit of team work among the students and other working group members.
2.6 To assess the ability and competence of the students in preparing themselves to join the workforce upon the completion of their study.
3.0 REGISTRATION AT THE FIRM / COMPANY
3.1 Students are required to register at the firm/ company on the date agreed in the Acceptance Form which is endorsed by the Kulliyyah / Faculty.
3.2 Students are required to bring the following documents during registration at the firm / company:
a. Reporting for duty letter from the Kulliyyah of Engineering
b. Indemnity letter from the Kulliyyah of Engineering
c. Insurance letter the Kulliyyah of Engineering
d. EIT Log Book
e. Passport size photograph
4.0 STUDENTS INFORMATION DURING TRAINING
Once the student has registered to commence the training, they are required to inform the Kulliyyah / Faculty on their personal details by using the provided card in the EIT Log Book.
4.1 Students Information CardStudents are requested to fill in the card and request the signature and stamp of the officer in charge at the firm/ company once they have settled with the registration and accommodation. This card must be mailed to the Kulliyyah/ Faculty not later than TWO (2) weeks from the starting of EIT period.
4.2 EIT VisitDuring the training period, a lecturer from the Kulliyyah/ Faculty will visit the students at the training companies. The students are required to give a presentation on their assigned project/ job scope during the EIT Visit. The presentation will be assessed by the visiting lecturer. 5.0 DURING TRAINING
Students are required to observe the followings note during the period of training:5.1 DisciplineStudents are requested at all times during training to demonstrate the best conduct and behaviour which symbolise the good character of IIUM students. Students must try their best to adapt with other fellow workers in term of cooperation and understanding. At all times during training, students are required to comply with rules and regulations of the firm / company.
ANY STUDENT FOUND TO BE IN BREACH OF FIRMS / COMPANYS RULES AND REGULATIONS, NO DISCIPLINE OR ILL MANNERED WILL BE TERMINATED FROM THE TRAINING.
5.2 Accident / Insurance Claim
All students must exercise good safety attitude during the training. Every student is covered by a personal insurance under the university (IIUM). If accident occurred during the training, students or their representatives are required to immediately inform the EIT Unit and Welfare Unit of Student Affairs Division (STADD) in order to process the insurance claim. A police report must be made within 24 hour of the accident occurred in order to make the insurance claim. 5.3 Leave ApplicationAny application for leave must be made directly to the firm / company concern.
Students are also requested to fill in the leave form which is enclosed in the EIT Log Book. If the leave exceeds 3 days, you would have to get permission from EIT Unit. A copy of completed form must be sent to the EIT Unit as soon as possible.5.4 Change of AddressStudents are requested to inform the Kulliyyah / Faculty for any change of address immediately. This is important in order for the Kulliyyah / Faculty to contact the students directly during the training.
5.5 Change of Place of TrainingStudents are NOT ALLOWED to change the place of training once they have registered to the firm / company. If there is any difficulties or problems, students are required to discuss the matter with the officer in charge in the firm / company concerned.
However an exception is allowed in the case where the company is unable to provide training related to the students academic background or other reasonable excuses.
5.6 Daily ReportAll students are expected to provide a brief daily report during the training in the EIT log book. This report book must be shown to the visiting Lecturer / Professor during their visit to the firm / company. This report can be used as a guideline to prepare the full report upon completion of the training.
INDUSTRIAL TRAINING DAILY ACTIVITY REPORT BOOK MUST BE BROUGHT TO THE WORK PLACE EVERYDAY.
5.7 Activities During EIT
During the training the students should be exposed to engineering practises and activities. With regards to this matter it is preferable that the firm/company can provide them with any of these activities:-
a. Students to be given projects that require certain level of engineering skills
b. Students to be involved in working exposure in order to enhance engineering skills
c. Involvement of students in firms/companies projects
d. Student to be assigned to an engineer
e. Student to be exposed to the overall activities of the firm/company
f. Student to improve the production line or standard operation procedure of a firm/company
5.8 Firm / Company ConfidentialityAt all timed during the training with the firm / company, students must not divulge or disclose to any person of bodies corporate, any company policy or secrets entrusted to the students or any knowledge known to the students without the specific permission of the firm / company General Manager.
6.0 ENGINERING INDUSTRIAL TRAINING REPORT
All students are requested to write a full report with regard to the industrial training upon completion of the training. The report must include all the works or activities which have been carried out during the training.
The report must be type written and in TWO (2) copies, one for the Department (not returnable) and one for student copy. The report must be submitted to the EIT Unit within the date specified in EIT Student Flowchart 5. Before writing the report, students are advised to discuss the content with the firm/ company concerned.
6.1 Report Format
The report must be well organised and hard cover bound before submission. The contents of the report must include the following:a. Front and Back Cover
1) Front cover
- Hard Cover, black colored with golden colored writings
- Topic of the training, firm / company name, student name and matric
number, duration of training.b. Preliminary pages (Roman numbering: i, ii, iii, )1) Company verification statement and company stamp (on report contents)
