ALTITUDE SIMULATION
LE M altitude System (G . Gaylord )
Further evaluation of T.,.EM engine propellant flow at low theist
has shown that the rates are within the values e_recified to
Thiokol for design of the altitude system . This refutes the
Thiokol argument that non-performance of the system at minimum
thrust is due to excess engine flow . V
Efforts to secure the consultant services of Dr. Addy of theUniversity of Illinois have failed .
A .S .I . Altitude System (H . Zweig)
A three-stage hold ejector system is being fabricated for CTL-3cell 36 . This system i s designed to evacuate the A. S .I . testcell in 30 seconds after A.S.I .. cutoff. These ejectors will complete
all operational requirements for the altitude system .
J.-2 Altitude System • VTS+3A (0. Haroldsen )
FL1I ..5•.¢049, "Temperature History, VTS-~3A Diffuser Nugrer 3 ;
Addendum I," predicts that the mean diffuser wall temperatureafter 4.5 .seconds of J-2 engine operation will be 2500E without
film coolant. At 4.5 seconds, the film-coolant shroud temperaturewill reach 10000F . Since a 250OF maximum mean wall temperature
has been established, film coolant must be. present at 1, 5seconds after MLV opening.

The Taylor Forge ire seal has been reworked to an "0"--Ring type seal .
The seas. was installed and the bottle is being pressurized with helium .
The seal is holding 3500 rsig with zero leakage . On 31 January 1965 the
bottle will be pressurized. 5000 psi . That date is set because the
helium compressor can on!. achieve 3500 psi with the high usage rates
