SCRIPT:

Act  I

(At the Stahlbaum house on a cold Christmas Eve. Music : Nutcracker Suite by  Tchaikovsky – Overture Miniature There is a Christmas tree in the middle of the room decorated with candies, chocolates, candy canes, and sugar mice. There are Christmas gifts under the tree.  Marie and Fritz enter the living room. They stand in front of the tree.  Music stops).

Marie: Oh, look at all the Christmas tree decorations!… Look, Fritz, at all the chocolates and candy canes hanging on the tree!

Fritz: (takes a christmas hanging) What are these?

Marie: Oh, let me see… They are sugar mice!

(The door bell rings.  Mrs. And Mr. Stahlbaum enter the room)

Mrs. Stahlbaum: That must be Herr Drosselmeyer.

(Mrs. And Mr. Stahlbaum open the door)

Herr Drosselmeyer: Hello, hello!

(Herr  Drosselmeyer has two small gift boxes, and two big boxes

stand on the floor)

Mrs. Stahlbaum: Please, come on in.

Herr Drosselmeyer: It sure is cold tonight.

Mr. Stahlbaum: Marie!  Fritz!  Mr. Drosselmeyer is here!

(Marie and Fritz hurry to the door)

Marie and Fritz: Good evening.

Herr Drosselmeyer: Hello Kids!

(Mrs. Stahlbaum stares at the two big boxes on the floor)

Mrs. Stahlbaum: What are those big boxes you have?

Herr Drosselmeyer: You will see, it’s a surprise.

Mr. Stahlbaum: Let me help you take them to the living room.

( Music plays: Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker, Op.71: No. 4 Dance Scene – the Presents of Drosselmeyer , Herr Drosselmeyer and  Mr. Stahlbaum take the boxes to the living room.  They all sit. Herr Drosselmeyer makes a magic trick and two life-size  harlequins get out from the big boxes and start to dance.  Marie and Fritz watch the magical dolls dance. They laugh and cheer.The dolls get inside the box.  Marie and Fritz clap.  Music stops).

Fritz: You are a great magician!

Herr Drosselmeyer: Wait until you see what I have for you!

(Herr Drosselmeyer does a magic trick and gives Fritz a gift box)

Fritz: Oh, thank you… can I open it now?

Herr Drosselmeyer: Of course!

(Fritz opens the gift box)

Fritz: Toy soldiers!   Thank you!

(Fritz hugs Herr Drosselmeyer)

Mrs. Stahlbaum: Fritz, you know where the box should be, don’t you?

Fritz: Yes mother, under the tree.

(Fritz places the box under the tree)

Marie: Godfather… did you bring me a gift?

Herr Drosselmeyer: Sure, I did… and it is the best gift of all!

Marie: Oh, what is it?

(Herr Drosselmeyer gives Marie a gift box.  She opens it).

Marie: What a splendid toy soldier!

Herr Drosselmeyer: It’s a nutcracker!

Marie: I love it!  Oh, thank you!

(Music plays Tchaikovsky “Grandfather’s Dance”. Marie takes the nutcracker and dances.  Music stops.  Fritz grabs the doll).

Fritz: Let me try it!  I’ll break a few nuts!

(Fritz takes some nuts and the nutcracker breaks)

Marie: Look what you did!  You broke my doll!

Fritz: Sorry, Marie.

(Marie cries)

Herr Drosselmeyer: Don’t worry dear, I’ll fix it.

(Herr Drosselmeyer mends the nutcracker and gives it back to Marie)

Marie: Thank you, godfather.

Mrs. Stahlbaum: Now, put it inside the box and under the tree.

(Marie places the nutcracker inside the box and under the tree)

Mrs. Stahlbaum: Hurry now kids, it’s time for bed.

Marie and Fritz: Good night, everybody.

(Marie and Fritz kiss their parents and Mr. Drosselmeyer and leave.  Lights  off)

Act II

(Lights on.  Marie sleeps in her room.  She wakes up and goes to the living room.  The Christmas tree lights are turned off. She opens the gift box and takes out the nutcracker.  She lies down in a sofa with the doll at her chest and falls asleep.  The Christmas tree lights turn on.  There is a loud noise and Marie wakes up.  The clock strikes midnight.)

Marie: Who turned on the Christmas tree lights?…. What’s that noise?

(Music plays.  Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker, Op. 71  The Nutcracker battles against the army of the Mouse King. The sugar mice from the tree start to move and walk toward Marie. The prince mouse wears a crown and has a sword. Marie sees that the mice and toy soldiers had grown to life size and looks scared .  The nutcracker and the toy soldiers stand in a row with their muskets loaded. They battle the mice.  The nutcracker falls to the ground and Marie takes off her slipper and throws it at the prince mouse, who is defeated.  The mice run away taking the prince mouse with them. The toy soldiers leave.  Marie and the nutcracker stand alone in the middle of the room and hold hands.  The nutcracker looks like a handsome prince.  Music stops).

Marie: You have turned into a prince!

Nutcracker: My dear Marie, you’re so beautiful!  Come with me,  let’s go outside!

(Lights off)

Act III

(Lights on. Marie and the nutcracker stand in the middle of the room)

Marie: Where are we?

Nutcracker: We are in the Kingdom of Sweets!

(Children dressed as candies, chocolates, candy canes, or any other sugary treats enter the room dancing Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker Suite, Op 71a -  The Walts of the Flowers. The Sugar Plum Fairy enters and dances the  Tchaikovsky – Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. When she finishes dancing, Marie and the Prince dance Tchaikovsky – Nutcracker – Pas de deux.  Marie feels dizzy with all the twists and twirls and she faints.  Lights  off)

Act  IV

(Lights on.  Marie wakes up under the Christmas tree with the nutcracker toy under her arms.  The door bell rings.  She stands up and opens the door.  Mr. Herr Drosselmeyer is at the door with his nephew Daniel who is the nutcracker/prince.  Marie looks surprised).

Herr Drosselmeyer: Hello, dear!

(Herr Drosselmeyer hugs Marie).

Herr Drosselmeyer: Daniel, aren’t you going to say hello to Marie?

Daniel: Hello, Marie.

Marie: Hello, Daniel.

Herr Drosselmeyer: What’s wrong?  You look as if you have seen a ghost!

Marie: It’s just that I had a wonderful dream…. and…

Herr Drosselmeyer: Sometimes dreams come true, dear.

Marie: You’re right… Merry Christmas Day!

Herr Drosselmeyer and Daniel: Merry Christmas!

(They hug.  Music:  Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker, Op. 71.  Closing Waltz – Grand Finale)

GUION:

Acto  I

(En la casa de la familia Stahlbaum en la Nochebuena.  Música: Nutcracker Suite por  Tchaikovsky – Overture Miniature. Hay un árbol de Navidad en el centro del escenario decorado con dulces, chocolates, caramelos y ratones de dulce.  Hay regalos de navidad debajo del árbol. Marie y Fritz entran al escenario.  Se paran frente al árbol de Navidad.  Pausar la música.)

Marie: ¡Oh, mira todas las decoraciones del árbol de Navidad! … ¡Mira, Fritz, todos los chocolates y caramelos que Mama coloco en el árbol!

Fritz: (toma una decoración) ¿Que es esto?

Marie: Oh, déjame ver… ¡Son ratones de dulce!

(Suena el timbre de la puerta.  El Sr. y la Sra. Stahlbaum entran al escenario)

Sra. Stahlbaum: Debe ser Herr Drosselmeyer.

(El Sr. y la Sra.Stahlbaum abren la puerta)

Herr Drosselmeyer: ¡ Hola, hola!

(Herr Drosselmeyer tiene dos regalos pequeños, y dos cajas grandes están en el piso)

Sra. Stahlbaum: Por favor, entra.

Herr Drosselmeyer: De verdad que la noche esta realmente fría.

Sr. Stahlbaum: ¡Marie!  ¡Fritz!  ¡El Sr. Drosselmeyer ya llego!

(Marie y Fritz se acercan a la puerta)

Marie y Fritz: Buenas noches padrino.

Herr Drosselmeyer: ¡Hola niños!

(La Sra. Stahlbaum ve las dos cajas grandes que están en el piso)

Sra. Stahlbaum: ¿Que es lo que traes en esas grandes cajas?

Herr Drosselmeyer: Ya lo veras, es una sorpresa.

Sr. Stahlbaum: Déjame ayudarte a llevarlas a la sala.

(Música: Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker, Op.71: No. 4 Dance Scene – the Presents of Drosselmeyer . Herr Drosselmeyer y Sr. Stahlbaum cargan las cajas y las llevan a la sala.  Todos se sientan.   Herr Drosselmeyer hace un movimiento de magia con las manos y de las cajas salen dos muñecos arlequín de tamaño real y empiezan a bailar. Marie y Fritz miran bailar a los dos muñecos.  Al terminar el baile los muñecos regresan a sus cajas. Marie y Fritz aplauden.  Pausar la música).

Fritz: ¡Usted es un gran mago!

Herr Drosselmeyer: ¡Eso no es nada, espera a que veas lo que te he traído!

(Herr Drosselmeyer hace un movimiento de magia con las manos y le da a Fritz un regalo)

Fritz: Oh, gracias… ¿puedo abrirlo?

Herr Drosselmeyer: ¡Claro que si!

(Fritz abre el regalo)

Fritz: ¡Soldados de juguete!   ¡Gracias!

(Fritz abraza al Sr. Herr Drosselmeyer)

Sra. Stahlbaum: Fritz, ya sabes donde debe ir ese regalo, ¿verdad?

Fritz: Si, ya lo se, debajo del árbol.

(Fritz coloca el regalo debajo del árbol)

Marie: Padrino… ¿y para mi no hay ningún regalo?

Herr Drosselmeyer: Por supuesto…. ¡Es el major regalo de todos!

Marie: Oh, ¿y que es?

(Herr Drosselmeyer le entrega a Marie un regalo.  Ella lo abre).

Marie: ¡Que esplendido soldado de juguete!

Herr Drosselmeyer: ¡Es un Cascanueces!

Marie: ¡Esta precioso!  ¡Oh, muchas gracias padrino!

(Música: Tchaikovsky “Grandfather’s Dance”. Marie toma el  Cascanueces y baila con el.  Pausar la música.  Fritz le arrebata el soldado).

Fritz: Déjame probarlo, ¡voy a quebrar unas cuantas nueces!

(Fritz toma unas nueces y al usar el Cascanueces, este se quiebra)

Marie: ¡Mira lo que hiciste… rompiste mi muñeco!

Fritz: Lo siento, Marie.

(Marie llora)

Herr Drosselmeyer: No te preocupes querida, yo lo arreglare.

(Herr Drosselmeyer repara el Cascanueces y se lo devuelve a Marie)

Marie: Gracias, padrino.

Sra. Stahlbaum: Ahora, ponlo en la caja y colócalo debajo del árbol.

(Marie coloca el Cascanueces adentro de la caja y debajo del árbol)

Sra. Stahlbaum: Apresúrense niños, es hora de dormir.

Marie y Fritz: Buenas noches a todos.

(Marie y Fritz besan a sus padres y al Sr.Drosselmeyer y salen del escenario.  Se apagan las luces.

Acto II

(Se encienden las luces.  Marie esta dormida en su cuarto.  Se despierta y se dirige hacia la sala.  Las luces del árbol de Navidad están apagadas.  Ella toma y abre el regalo y saca al cascanueces. Se recuesta en el sofá abrazando al muñeco y se queda dormida.  Se

encienden las luces del árbol.  Se escucha un ruido fuerte y Marie se despierta.  El reloj da las doce campanadas de media noche)

Marie: ¿Que pasa, quien encendió las luces del árbol?…. ¿Que fue ese ruido?

(Musica.  Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker, Op. 71  The Nutcracker battles against the army of the Mouse King. Los ratones de azúcar del árbol empiezan a moverse y caminan hacia Marie.  El Príncipe ratón lleva una corona y una espada.  Marie ve que los ratones y los soldados de juguete son de tamaño real y se asusta.  El Cascanueces y los soldados de juguete están formados con las armas apuntando, y se inicia una pelea con los ratones.  El Cascanueces cae al suelo y Marie se quita un zapato del pie y se lo lanza al príncipe ratón, quien recibe el golpe del zapato y cae.  Los  demas ratones cargan al principe raton y huyen. Los soldados de juguete salen del escenario.   Marie ayuda a levantarse al Cascanueces y se quedan parados en el centro del escenario tomándose de las manos.  El Cascanueces ahora parece un principe.  Pausar la musica).

Marie: ¡Te has convertido en un príncipe de verdad!

Cascanueces: ¡Mi querida Marie, eres tan Hermosa!  ¡Ven conmigo, vayamos afuera!

(Se apagan las luces)

Acto III

(Se encienden las luces. Marie y el Cascanueces/principe se encuentran en el centro del escenario)

Marie: ¿Donde estamos?

Cascanueces: ¡Estamos en el reino de los dulces!

(Niños vestidos de dulces, chocolates, y caramelos entran al escenario bailando Tchaikovsky – The Nutcracker Suite, Op 71a -  The Walts of the Flowers. Al terminar los dulces de bailar,el Hada de Azucar entra bailando Tchaikovsky – Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Al terminar de bailar, Marie y el Prince bailan Tchaikovsky – Nutcracker – Pas de deux.  Marie se siente mareada de tantos giros y se desmaya.  Se apagan las luces)

Acto  IV

(Se encienden las luces. Marie despierta debajo del árbol de Navidad con el Cascanueces bajo sus brazos.  Suena el timbre de la puerta. Marie se levanta y abre la puerta.  Herr Drosselmeyer esta en la puerta con su sobrino Daniel quien se parece al Cascanueces/príncipe.  Marie se sorprende).

Herr Drosselmeyer: ¡Hola, querida!

(Herr Drosselmeyer abraza a Marie).

Herr Drosselmeyer: Daniel,  ¿no vas a saludar a Marie?

Daniel: Hola, Marie.

Marie: Hola, Daniel.

Herr Drosselmeyer: ¿Que te sucede?  ¡Parece como si hubieras visto un fantasma!

Marie: Es solo que tuve un sueño maravilloso… y …

Herr Drosselmeyer: Algunas veces los sueños se convierten en realidad, querida.

Marie: Tiene razón…. ¡Feliz Navidad!

Herr Drosselmeyer y Daniel: ¡Feliz Navidad!

(Los tres se abrazan.   Música:  Tchaikovsky – The Cascanueces, Op. 71.  Closing Waltz – Grand Finale)
