The new Portofino 47 demonstrates the design team’s relentless quest for innovative ways of achieving a fine balance between good ergonomics and stylish design. Ideal as a day boat and competent as an extended cruiser, the Portofino 47 is complete with all of the hall marks of Sunseeker – flowing interior lines, lively performance and luxurious features throughout.

According to the company’s managing director, Robert Braithwaite MBE, this versatile sports cruiser features a broader beam and longer hull providing a much greater volume throughout than its predecessor the Portofino 46. ‘In addition to the new hard top, more powerful, technically-advanced engines deliver improved performance and its enhanced layout has increased accommodation in all areas’, he said.

In the cockpit, the improved helm position features a double seat and plenty of seats for guests, the dining area is complemented by a full wet bar, top-loading fridge, bottle storage and a fully-equipped galley. On entrance to the restaurant, the terrace is lined with mismatched tables and furnishings that in some way seem to match-if that makes any sense… Inside is the same with grand chandeliers and paintings adorning colorful walls.

The food is excellent, all of Abou El Sid’s starters are great and very authentic. Mezzes and breads await your consumption, the vine leaves, besara (fava & coriander dip), kobeba (cracked wheat and lamb meatballs) and babaghanough (aubergine dip) are excellent choices and will get your taste buds watering.

For main courses, options are available for those wanting a taste of real Egypt, and those with a more sensitive palate. The stuffed pigeons and molokheya (a cooked green leafy vegetable) with rabbit and rice are for authentic choices, while the chicken with walnut sauce is sure to satisfy all tastes. Nothing is unpalatable and there are many vegetarian options for those requiring it. For sugary finale, the fetir (Oriental pancake) with honey and ishta (local cream), or the Om Aly (bread pudding with sultanas, nuts and coconut) are sure to make the end of your meal sweet and have you leaning back into your comfy chair or sofa with a full belly and a smile on your face.

Cargo vessels, oil tankers and leisure boats are all common sights on the Red Sea highway however the true beauty of this ecosystem lays beyond the surface and on the reefs and mountainous terrain of the deep. The Red Sea attracts divers, photographers, marine scientists, and leisure seekers from all over the world, hoping to experience and explore the wonders of the colorful marine life and the Red Sea’s stunning coral reefs.

In places, the unique living reef stretches way out to sea, forming caves, lagoons, gardens, and plateaus. Some of these coral summits plunge dramatically thousands of feet to the ocean floor.

Here in El Gouna we are fortunate to have all of these at our fingertips and often only need to travel 30 minutes to be in what seems like the middle of nowhere and snorkeling or diving in an under water story book.

So book your boat trip now so that you can have a taste of the Red Sea experience.

That is why when we heard of the clean up and how it made excellent links to an Oceans and Seas topic being studied in our class, we jumped at the chance to be part of it. The children openly discuss their love of the sea daily and know how important it is to keep litter in the right places. Educating from a young age is the key as this sets the standard and views our youth will hold onto. Armed with bottles of water, rubbish bags and gloves the children, senior management and teachers of El Gouna International School joined many more volunteers who were taking part in the clean up. Plastic bottles, debris from boats and building materials seemed to be the majority of rubbish collected. The children immensely enjoyed pulling large, black plastic from beneath the sand as they knew only too well what it could do to any of the wildlife living close by. Comments such as “it is very heavy to get out of the sand” and ”I’m so tired from working so hard” were overheard from the children. On discussion afterwards, they were just so pleased to have helped in their own small way. ”The turtles will die if they swallow the plastic bags; they think it is a jellyfish which they like to eat” said Momcilo Randjelovic. He’s right you know.

The organisation and promotion of the clean up by websites and word of mouth, ensured there was an excellent turn out of volunteers-both local and international. The follow up and realisation from this experience, is that we must look after our environment, we must encourage the use of recyclable options and we must educate more people. Supporting local initiatives is paramount-say no to plastic bags, use fabric or recyclable options. Minmalise household waste and use the recycling bins where available. We can make a difference. Let’s work together to “Keep El Gouna Beautiful.”
