    January Newsletter 2019

The Elbert Chartrand Friendship Centre Board & Staff would like to wish your family

a safe, warm, and happy New Year.

    MISSION STATEMENT

The Elbert Chartrand Friendship Centre is a gathering place for fellowship, services and opportu-

nities for Aboriginal & Non-Aboriginal people. To encourage and promote social fellowship be-

tween Aboriginal & Non-Aboriginal people; and to strive to maintain equality of rights, programs

and opportunities for all people regardless of ethnicity. To promote progress in the educational,

social, economic, well-being and cultural life of both Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal people.

    Memberships Expire December 31st of

    Each Year.

Memberships entitle you to our various pro-

grams and gives you the opportunity to vote at

our Annual General Meeting. You must have a

membership 14 days prior to the Annual Gen-

eral Meeting in order to vote.

Memberships are available to adults 18 years

and older. The cost of a membership is $1.00

    per adult.

    Membership Includes:

Invite to our Annual General Meeting

    Friendship Centre Programming

    Children’s Student Awards (June)

Being apart of an organization that has

Our Friendship Centre is continually welcoming new members and we would also

  • Condensation forming on the windows is a prob-

lem in many homes. But the condensation alone

isn't the only issue, because this type of mois-

ture buildup can lead to mold, wood rot, and

other problems in the house too. The keys to

preventing condensation are controlling the hu-

midity and moisture levels in the house, manag-

ing the temperature and air flow inside, and

keeping cold air away from your house.

Use exhaust fans and vents throughout the

house. One of the best ways to get humidity out

of your house is to vent it outside through ex-

    haust fans.

Use bathroom vents and fans when you're bath-

ing. Run them for at least 20 minutes after your

    shower.

Use kitchen and stove fans when you're cooking.

Run them for about 15 minutes after you finish

    cooking.

Make sure your dryer vents to the outside for

    when you're doing laundry.

Keep your house at the right temperature. Man-

aging the temperature inside your house is an

important part of controlling condensation. Con-

densation can only form if there's a cold surface

where the moisture can pool, so keeping win-

dows and walls warm is essential. Ensure all

heat sources such as baseboards and vents are

    unobstructed.

Open the drapes. Opening drapes and curtains

will allow air to circulate against the windows,

and this will dry out moisture on the windows

and stop condensation from forming. Any con-

densation formed on window sills should be

wiped off regularly to prevent damage and mold-

    ing.

The best time to open the windows and drapes is

on sunny days, when the warmth and light from

the sun will dry out moisture.

Use fans to move air around. Stand-up, oscillat-

ing, and ceiling fans are all great for circulating

the air in your home. Not only will they help to

reduce moisture, but they’ll also distribute hot

air more evenly in the winter, and provide a cool-

    ing breeze in summer.

In summer, ceiling fans should rotate in a coun-

ter clockwise direction. In winter, switch the fans

so they rotate in a clockwise direction, and cir-

    culate heat more efficiently.

    Falcon

    March 21 – April 19

It is a new year. Observe the distant horizon and its many beautiful colors. Just like the colors in a rain-

bow are cyclical and appear like phases, your life has phases. This is a new phase. Embrace it and enjoy

the gifts provided to you in this phase by the Creator. Share it with your loved ones and encourage every-

    one to do the same.

    Beaver

    April 20 – May 20

You like building things. Build some new relationships in this continuing festive season. The Creator gave

you the gift of communication. Communicate your warm and healthy cheer! Now is not the time to do your

personal bean counting. There is still plenty left in your inventory so don’t start fretting about empty cup-

boards. Share what you have and your gifts will be replenished.

    Deer

    May 21 – June 20

You are a gentle creature of habits. Today, leave your routine and take some risks. Do not risk jumping off

buildings and be a little realistic. Expand your horizons by going out with your loved one and spending a

bit of your savings on this special person. Don’t do the ordinary safe thing by going to a quiet restaurant

and hiding with your loved one in the corner. Take a sleigh ride in the crisp, cool, winter air. Enjoy.

    Woodpecker

    June 21 – July 21

You like to work and accomplish progress? So what! It’s time to play. The calendar has a new page and

you need to explore some new ideas that have been developing in your head this past year. It is more fun

to explore with a friend or a group of friends, so get on the honker and call some of your buddies out to

play. Head out to the distant horizons and see what’s out there with your friends and don’t forget to count

your blessings as you accomplished so much last year.

    Salmon

    July 22 – August 21

Why is direction and purpose so important to you? It’s like an obsession. Stop it. Close your eyes, turn

around a couple of times, open your eyes and head in that direction you are facing. Without any plans or

compasses in your pocket. You need to exercise your freedom of choice and not be bound by direction and

purpose every single second in your life. Have some fun and smile a bit. You never know who may be in-

terested in spending some time with you. No more humbug!

    Brown Bear

    August 22 – September 21

Oh great one with a big heart and protecting smile. Take the time to rest and enjoy your family’s company.

Just your presence is comfort enough. Your patience while listening to others tell their story is very, very

important. Keep on being yourself and helping others the way you do. Your greatest personal reward is

seeing others finding help for themselves and living a safer, happier, and healthy life.

  • Crow

    September 22 – October 22

You are a sentinel in life. Watch out for the safety of others in your family and community. Call out in

that shrill voice of yours if you see danger to your family members or community. Others respect your

protective gift of communication. Use it wisely and never forget that the Creator gave you this gift of com-

munication for you, your family, and your community. Share it.

    Snake

    October 23 – November 22

You enjoy the limelight once in awhile. So get out and seek to be the center of attention in your crowd.

Your friends will be delighted. Use that gift of humor that the Creator gave to you and have some fun.

Lurking in the shadows is not your only style. You have an inner sense of sociability and sharing. So

    share your humor.

    Owl

    November 23 – Dec 21

Oh wise one, stop being foolish in your solitude. Your friends are eagerly awaiting your company and gift

of the gab so move it! Spread those rickety old wings and shake a leg. Fly, fly, fly cause you do not have

any time to lay around and cry, cry, cry. Your partner loves you and your family adores you. Your com-

munity looks up to you so get out there and share yourself.

    Goose

    December 22 – January 19

You are so loud! But that is good! Everyone party needs a spark plug! Keep on sparking and don’t wait for

that molasses in January that is so slow and boring. Dance your booty off and get the party started. You

know how. Keep your eyes peeled as a new friend is waiting for you to notice him or her. A new year

brings new beginnings in friendship and love.

    Otter

    January 20 – February 18

One year older and none the wiser. You are happy-go-lucky and you leave your tail where it will lay. You

do not care to be serious all the time. As a teacher, you teach your younger ones to play safe and also to

have fun. Being the best is less important than sharing your fun in playing games. Also, as a teacher, you

learn respect and teach it to others. You will fare well this new year.

    Wolf

    February 19 – March 20

As the leader of the pack, you must show restraint when it is due. Well, it is not due at the moment so let

loose a bit. Pull back your fangs as the danger is gone. Have some fun. Show others that too much tense

or strain or stress is bad on your health. Could create bad habits like eating all the time when things

don’t go your way. Show your wisdom in the other gifts that the Creator gave you like smiling, humor, and

sharing compliments. Be of good cheer today. Tomorrow is another day.
