Competition Time

Pupils have helped our school by designing a logo for the resili-ence work that we are doing in school. With the entries that have come in, we decided to use the ideas from various entries and have finally finished the design process. The winning entries came from:

The shape of the logo from the entries from Ibrahim and Mason

Strength comes from Tyler’s entry of Weights, being strong and a hand holding up the weights

Courage is from Mason’s entry saying “don’t let people kick you around” and Tyler saying “don’t get pushed around”

Having Belief came from Tyler saying “stand up and be proud”

We agreed that having Strength, Belief and Courage! Helps you Thrive

The character in the middle is from the design of our Bronze statue

The Blue and green colouring of the centre is to represent the world

The character is holding up the world with Strength, Courage, Belief and Thrive at each point which represents Resilience

Residential Visits Snowdonia 2016

Congratulations to: Aiden (Yr7), Mason (Yr8), Layton (Yr8),

Billy (Yr8), Sarah (Yr9), Romahn (Yr10), Ricky (Yr10) and Khalid

(Yr11)

Mr Hare took pupils and staff from KS3/4 on our annual

Snowdonia Residential. They successfully completed a mountain walk

up Mount Snowdon (3560ft high) showing resilience in very testing

weather conditions. They also experienced mountain biking round an

undulating trail and an activity called Bounce Below, which is a former

slate mine that lets you play, slide, roll, jump and bounce from net to net

in a cavern the size of a cathedral.

Residential Visits Lambourne End

KS1/2 attended their annual residential to Lambourne End which also celebrated a 20 year

relationship between our Primary School and the Outdoor Centre

West Ham Since the May half term holidays we have had the support of West Ham staff at the school, on both sites. They attended our Sports Day and Fete to help out. Coaches are going to be in the school doing lunchtime and after school clubs on some days - not just football, but multi-skills activities. They are also going to be in school next academic year helping Mr Duerden to do the Junior Football Leaders course for secondary pupils and we can use their Beckton sports facilities. They will help us with fundraising for extra-curricular activities, like residential visits and going to Southend. We will be receiving a lot of support from them, and it's a great opportunity for the school to develop further community links. The lunchtime support will be primary only this academic year. Next year there will be support for both sites and an after school club for KS2 / Y7. We would like to thank all the West Ham Staff for there support this term and look forward to an ongoing partnership.

Sponsored Walk Pupils and staff across the school from Yr7 to Yr11 walked to raise money for the school and Richard House Children’s Hospice. We walked from Beckton to Stratford then back to Plaistow which was approx 14km. Carrying collection buckets we managed to raise £546.83 on the day and still awaiting sponsorship money.

The Resilient Year 7s of 2015-2016 Congratulations to the Year 7s who have shown amazing resilience this year with their Learning, Coping and Core self. Your learning progressed because you were given the opportunity to share and celebrate your achievements with your peers and the entire school. You developed your coping skills and core self by coming to the realisation that you are all uniquely talented with a variety of interests and talents which make you special. Thank you for taking very good care of our class pets (Will, Low, Percy and Ingle) and for bringing your pets into school on Pet Days. Finally, thank you for being resilient and confident in sharing your talents and interests in Special Assembly on the 13th July, you were amazing! Continue to thrive and excel in all areas of life.

Fun in the sun at the School Fete

Transport for London have confirmed our school has achieved the travel plan Bronze accreditation within the STARS programme (Sustainable Travel: Active, Responsible, Safe) for 2015/16.

They would like to say a big thank you for all of our hard work and continued efforts to promote road safety and encourage, facilitate, and reward walking, cycling, public transport, and smarter driving. Your efforts continue to benefit the health and well-being of the school community and beyond.

There will be the annual TfL STARS workshop and awards in October where staff and students can attend to receive their new STAR for their plaque (or pick up a plaque for the first time) and certificate and share best practice with other schools in the region.

Sports Day

This year we held our first whole school sports day across all the key stages. This was held at New-ham's McMillan Stadium athletics track. Participation was fun and competitive and enjoyed by all.

Goodbye — Good luck — Happy Retirement Staff and pupils would like to say goodbye to Miss Macdonald and Miss Cox for the time you have spent with Eleanor Smith. And good luck for your new experiences that you are moving onto.

27 Years I hear you say!

Its time for her to stop becoming part of the furniture as we bid farewell to Ms J Knight.

No! she is not a 27 year old Ikea cabinet!

She is though, a 27 year SEN specialist who we are truly sad to see retire.

Now that you have been diagnosed with the Classic Retirement Syndrome

A. A. A. D. D. (A. A. A. D. D. - Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder)

We hope you have enjoyed your stay but it is time to check out.

At least you now have more time to become an expert in computers and a master of maths ;-)

Enjoy! We will miss you

Study Trip to China Four months ago, Mr. Smith attended a head teachers study trip to China, where he visited some Primary and Secondary Schools. Below is a short extract from his experience and potential recommendations. What are the primary schools like in China? Primary schools in China are generally much larger than ones in England and can have up to 5000 stu-dents split over several campuses. They work more like a secondary school where you have teachers who specialise in a subject and a home teacher who looks after your well being. Schools have a very established sense of identity, many of them even have museums dedicated to their history, achievements and ambitions. All children are expected to know this history and be able to articu-late it. As the schools are so large they have several multi storied buildings surrounding a central playground. Due to their scale and organisation of the curriculum many schools also have specialist music studios, science rooms, libraries, art rooms and museum exhibits about natural sciences. The school supplies textbooks but everything else is expected to be supplied by parents. This includes all pencils, exercise books, art materials, sporting equipment etc. Recommendations: - Values system is embedded as planned - Enhance school identity and responsibility by making class groups and school council more focused on the values of the school and the children's role on achieving this (school museum explored?) - Expectations of parents needs to be refined and conveyed more clearly when children start the school-homework - School needs to be promoting independence, expectation & learning mindset within pupils and increasing aspiration - Greater focus on children articulating their learning throughout the lesson - Introduce a more consistent approach to the teaching of Mathematics and English - Review length of lessons & structure of school day to maximise impact
