Exalted Ruler Reyne Rocha Happy New Year to one and all! We kicked the new year off in style with one of the best New Year’s Eve pares ever! When’s the last me you celebrated New Year’s Eve with 200 of your favorite people? This is my last message to you as Exalted Ruler, and with it, I would like to express my deepest appre- ciaon for all that you have done for me in making my year a memorable life experience. I started this journey with you all hoping to do the best possible job and represent you and our lodge in the most posive light. I believe that as a lodge, we have accomplished a lot as a working unit. We have proven that this lodge is capable of thinking outside the box and we have implemented several new ideas that I hope will smulate membership. We started off the year with a district Inaugural Ball that was a huge success, we’ve updated our monthly breakfast to a buffet service with new opons, and connued to introduce varied events for our members. Hopefully we can get the boys to schedule the Grubfests more than once a year! The officers have rolled up their sleeves to literally clean things up and many of you have noced! The new carpet in the Jolly Corks is probably the most obvious update, but new lights and several necessary projects from our Beau- ficaon Commiee, (thanks, Ma), have brightened up our lodge. And so many new members have stepped up to help out when needed! As I close out my ER year, it is my hope that we can connue to keep things fresh at Gardena lodge. We’ve got the momentum, so let’s keep the ball rolling. Fraternally Grateful, Reyne Rocha, 2013-2014 Exalted Ruler BOWLERS CORNER Happy New Year! Happy New Year to one and all! We kicked the new year off in style with one of the best New Year’s Eve parties ever! When’s the last time you celebrated New Year’s Eve with 200 of your favorite people? This is my last message to you as Exalted Ruler, and with it, I would like to express my deepest appre-ciation for all that you have done for me in making my year a memorable life experience.

I started this journey with you all hoping to do the best possible job and represent you and our lodge in the most positive light. I believe that as a lodge, we have accomplished a lot as a working unit. We have proven that this lodge is capable of thinking outside the box and we have implemented several new ideas that I hope will stimulate membership. We started off the year with a district Inaugural Ball that was a huge success, we’ve updated our monthly breakfast to a buffet service with new options, and continued to introduce varied events for our members. Hopefully we can get the boys to schedule the Grubfests more than once a year! The officers have rolled up their sleeves to literally clean things up and many of you have noticed! The new carpet in the Jolly Corks is probably the most obvious update, but new lights and several necessary projects from our Beau-tification Committee, (thanks, Matt), have brightened up our lodge. And so many new members have stepped up to help out when needed! As I close out my ER year, it is my hope that we can continue to keep things fresh at Gardena lodge. We’ve got the

momentum, so let’s keep the ball rolling.

Fraternally Grateful,

Reyne Rocha, 2013-2014 Exalted Ruler

Aloha and Hauoli Makahiki Hou ( Hap-py New Year ). Thank you all for the food donations over the

holidays. I'm sure it helped out a lot of families in need. Hoop shoot competition took place in Decem-ber and we had a good turn out. We learned a lot of things to do this year to increase participation. Thanks to Francisco and his family for helping with the com-petition. On the horizon I see a Mexican cruises and Super Bowl Sundays. Come on out and support your club. All events are posted in the Jolly Cork. If you have any ques-tions please ask any officer and they can direct you to the right person. Mahalo again to all of our ham-burger cooks; Auntie Arlene, Auntie Char, Auntie Ally, Uncle Ernie, Un-cle Kimchee, Scott, Mel, Uncle Rich-ard and Brad. We still could use a couple more volunteers for ham-burger nite to either cook or be a substitute cook. We have two great crews that come rain or shine every month. So if you feel like pitching in please let me know. Looking forward to a great year in 2014 and with all of you. "Get in-volved in 2014". Mahalo and Aloha Kimo Carlos

Wow! How time

flies! These last

couple of months

have been filled

with so many

events and great

times. The GRUB-

FEST was an amazing success. We

had delicious food, fun people, and

an amazing volunteer group. Every-

one that was involved, in one way

or another, put in so much time

and effort. It was an great time!

Thank you for coming to the GRUB-

FEST, and thank you for your help.

The last couple of buffet breakfasts

have also been enjoyable. The Vet-

erans Day breakfast buffet ran

smoothly with our elk volunteers as

well as the Girl Scouts' help. Every-

one who attended seemed to really

enjoy the morning, the speeches

and the prizes.

And after the fun month of Novem-

ber with the turkey shoot, the bas-

ketball shoot, and the thanksgiving

dinner, we had an awesome De-

cember as well. The children's

Christmas party was a great suc-

cess thanks to our leading knight

and all her elf helpers, the tree

trimming party was fun as well, and

everyone pitched in with really

good food items, and again the

Sunday buffet was a nice one. The

most enjoyable time was the New

Years Eve Party! Wow! What a fun

time that was! The team, the food,

the people, the music! I hope many

more elks and friends join us next

year!

Sincerely your Loyal Knight,

Matt Almaraz

Leading Knight

Alyssa Santos

Happy 2014 to you! We ended

last year on a great note. We had

fantastic turn out for the Tree

Trimming-Tom & Jerry-Potluck. A

big thanks to our DD John Sutton

and Ector Espinoza-PER for mak-

ing such yummy Tom & Jerrys.

Thank you to everyone who attended.

The annual Children's Christmas party was packed

and all the kids seemed to have a great time. Big

big thanks to: Yolanda for the coordination of

food, all the "Elk Elves" for wrapping gifts and

making the day run so smoothly. We are lucky to

have our own in house "Santa" and his Ms. Claus

(aka Bonnie). The Emblem ladies provided cookie

& cupcake decorating and sent the kids home with

cookies. Thank you!

“Our Ring in the New Year” Dance Party was a

blast. It was so awesome to see so many Elks in

attendance with their friends. Our ER, Reyne, gave

an amazing eleventh hour toast that I know made

every Elk in the room even more proud to be a

part of this organization.

At the end of January, more than 60 people (80%

being Elks) will be cruising to Mexico for a couple

days aboard Carnival's Imagination.

February brings us the 60th birthday ball on 2/8

and on 2/14 our CHEA President will be visiting us

at our Fish Fry. Please mark your calendars to

attend these two events and support our lodge.

As we wind down our 2013-2014 year I'd like to

say that it's been a memorable full year with our

ER, Reyne, fellow officers and it's been a pleasure

to get to know so many members.

Fraternally,

Alyssa Santos

Do you have a “Heart On Your Card”? A heart sticker on your card indicates you have donated $10 and are a member of the Elks National Foundation for this Elk Year. Don’t assume that you do, take out your card to be sure. You don’t want to miss out on recognition for consecutive membership years by overlooking this year by mistake. It isn’t too late to join for this year and doing so supports our community through Elk Youth Programs, Hoop Shoot, Scholarships and Veterans Services. Do you contribute to the ENF often? What if you could donate without writing a check, buying a stamp and ad-dressing an envelope each time? You can by joining the ENF Fidelity Club! The ENF can automatically debit a donor's bank account or charge a credit card on a recurring basis for a set donation amount. There are no checks to write or coupons to mail. It's safe, reliable, and allows the ENF to spend less time on administration and more time on our charitable mission. Save time, stamps and inconven-ience by joining the ENF Fidelity Club today. Joining the Fidelity Club is simple! Enroll online at enf.elks.org/recurring and start your gift now, or download a Fidelity Club enrollment form below, fill it out and return it to the ENF office at 2750 N. Lake-view Ave., Chicago, IL, 60614-2256. The longer you are a member of the Fidelity Club, the more benefits you’ll receive!

your membership card, and your name will appear in the online Fidelity Club Honor Roll.

Ritual Contest Announcement & Volunteer Request

To All South Central Coast District Members:

A great day to you all! It is once again that time of the year when we must all start thinking about the up-coming District Ritual Contest for the 2014 -2015 Fraternal year. We will be hosting the Ritual Contest information meeting on Monday, February 24, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Redondo Beach Elks Lodge #1378. This will be the time to have your Ritual Contest questions answered, learn about the scoring process

and draw for contest performance times.

The South Central Coast District also needs volunteers to be certified as Word Judges and Calculators. Anyone interested in becoming a certified Word Judge or Calculator should also attend this meeting to take the certification tests. If you are interested but can not attend the meeting, please contact me direct-ly and I will arrange to get you certified. Volunteers are the life-blood of our organization and I appreciate

any help that you can extend in our endeavors to have another great Ritual Contest.

Fraternally,

Erik Blomquist, P.E.R. Judy R. Sutton, P.E.R.

2014-2105 ELK ELECTIONS

Nominations for next year’s officers will take place in February. Please consider the responsibilities of each office before nominating, accepting a nomination, and when voting. Now is the time to ask questions if you have ever considered serving as an officer of the Lodge. Each position involves commitment, both of your time and financially. In addition to attendance at weekly meet-ings, Lodge uniforms and tuxedos must be purchased, Lodge and District functions should be well attended, and attending the 3 annual conventions is highly recommended. One thing is certain, you are sure to get more in re-turn than what you invest in your service to the Lodge.

Chair Officers usually progress from Lecturing Knight through all stations, and finally to Exalted Ruler. Not everyone follows the succession, but there is a lot to learn along the way, so there is a benefit to pro-gressing through the chairs. If you possess leadership qualities and a cooperative spirit, a Chair office might be for you.

Trustees usually have a 5-year commitment, and are responsible for the business and property of the Lodge.

If you have experience that you think would benefit the Lodge in that capacity, consider running for a Trustee.

Tiler, Treasurer and Secretary each have specific duties and responsibilities that can be researched on

Elks.org.

Inner Guard, Chaplain and Esquire are positions appointed by the Exalted Ruler. If you are interested in continuing as, or serving in one of these positions, please let the ER know.

If none of the Officer positions interest you right now, please be sure to make your interest known if you would like to head up or serve on any committee. Every contribution makes a difference!
