Blue Snowflake Fabric: Cut 1 strip 5 ¼”. Subcut into 2 squares 5 ¼” x 5 ¼”. Cut each of these squares in half diagonally twice to yield 8 triangles.

Blue/White Dot Fabric: Cut 1 strip 4 7/8” Subcut into 4 squares 4 7/8” x 4 7/8” Backing Fabric: Cut 1 piece 18” x 41 ½ Pieced Block Sewing Instructions: Attach ¼” piecing foot “0” to the machine. Thread machine with cotton piecing thread.

1. On each of the 2 ½” x 2 ½” white background squares, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner on the wrong side of the fabric. Place a 2 ½” white background square on opposite corners of the 4 7/8” blue/white dot square. Stitch on the drawn line from corner to corner of squares. Trim seam allowance to ¼”. Press seam.

2. Cut this blue/white square in half diagonally once.

3. Stitch a white background triangle to a blue snowflake triangle. Start at right angle and always sew with background on top. Press toward the snowflake fabric.

4. Stitch the background/snowflake piece to the background/blue/white piece. You will end up with 8 of these units.

5. Stitch 4 of these units together as per the illustration to make 1 block. You will need 2 complete blocks.

Center Block: 1. Trace the snowflake onto paper side of fusible web. Iron fusible web onto the wrong side of gray

snowflake fabric following manufacturer’s instructions. 2. Cut out snowflake shape. 3. Place snowflake shape in the center of the 8 ½” x 8 ½” white background square and press in

place. 4. Attach the Open Toe Embroidery Foot (F2). 5. Thread machine with silver metallic embroidery thread and put in the “Metafil” needle. 6. Lay the “Tearaway Magic” behind the 8 ½” x 8 ½” white background square. 7. Select an appliqué stitch such as and sew around the snowflake.

Putting It Together:

1. Sew a pieced block to each end of the center snowflake appliqué square. 2. Sew a 2 ½” x 24 ½” strip to the top and bottom of this piece. 3. Sew a 2 ½” x 12 ½” strip to each side. 4. Spray baste the 12” x 28” piece of cotton batting to the wrong side of the tablerunner top. 5. Find the center of each long side of the print backing fabric. Find the center of each long side of

the pieced block tablerunner.

6. Place right sides together. Match center of one side of the print backing and one side of the pieced block tablerunner fabric and stitch together along one long side using a 1/4" seam allowance. Note: The backing piece will be longer and wider than the appliquéd fabric.

7. Then match the center points on the other long side of the print backing fabric and the pieced block tablerunner fabric and stitch together along the long side. Note: The backing piece will be longer and wider than the front fabric therefore; the backing will not lay flat.

8. Turn right side out and press flat with about 2 ¼” of the backing showing on both sides on the front (this makes the border)

9. Fold in half lengthwise with right sides of backing together.

10. Stitch ¼” seam along both short ends.

11. Unfold and turn so right sides are out. This will make a point with the print backing fabric on each end. Press.

12. Attach the Ditch stitch foot and top stitch along the loose edge of the point. Optional: Stitch a decorative button at the edge of the short seam to secure in place. Quilting and Decorative Stitching:

1. Attach the Ditch stitch foot to the sewing machine. 2. Select a straight stitch or any quilting/decorative stitch and sew down along the seam of the

background and backing. Snowflake Appliqué Quilting:

1. Select a stitch such as to tack quilt the snowflake appliqué. Engage the pattern end function after beginning each stitch so as to only sew one pattern at a time. Use the thread

trimmers at the end of each pattern if your machine has this function. Randomly sew stitches all around the snowflake.

Option: If you own an embroidery machine, make 2 lace snowflakes and tack them down to the center of each pinwheel square. The lace snowflakes used in this project were from “Criswell” Snowflake Lace Sampler.
