The Global Edge School Success Saga

The latest feather in our cap, Shreyas Srinivasan, a 9th Grader, is at the zenith of success. What

started with an audition in the school to compete in the Hyderabad Metro Rail Brand Ambassador

Campaign, has now propelled him to stardom. Shreyas is now the face of Hyderabad Metro Rail.

The Journey

Shreyas was one of the 14 students who represented The Global Edge School at the auditions. He

contended with about 18,000 participants. The students were to showcase their talent in Extempore,

Dance or Music. Though an all-rounder, Shreyas chose to use his gift of the gab and spoke

eloquently on the topic ‘Favourite festival’ to secure a place in the semi-finals. He was one of the

250 boys selected in the school category. In the Semi finals, Shreyas again put his vocal cords to use,

but this time he sang. His melodious voice and clear notes on the guitar made him a strong contender

for being the face of HMR.

It was a proud moment when Shreyas’ name featured in the Top Ten finalists. In the finals, his self

introduction was comprehensive and the song he sang, “Aashayein” was a manifestation of his state

of mind. His answer in the Q & A round bowled each one of the eminent judges besides getting the

loudest cheer from the audience. To the question on how to work towards world peace, he said that

people must think of erasing borders as these boundaries are manmade while god made us all as one.

After that, being in the Top 3 was inevitable.

Being the Topper

Running up to the Grand Finale, Shreyas had the privilege of being groomed by the Panache

finishing school. The long journey reached its climax at the Grand felicitation ceremony held at the

JRC Convention Centre on 23rd

November. The incessant rain could not dampen the soaring spirits

of Shreyas, his family and The Global Edge team. Our joy knew no bounds when Shreyas was

announced as the Brand Ambassador of the Hyderabad Metro Rail.

The triumph is a culmination of the excitement and hard work of 11 months. This is just the tip of

the iceberg and there is more to come.

Victories Galore at The Global Edge School

Mrs Shailaja, a maths teacher at The Global

Edge School, has stood 3rd

in the “National

Competition for Tech Savvy Gurus on

creating engaging presentations’ conducted by

NIIT. Mrs Shailaja one of our Senior faculty

members has done us all proud by creating an

exemplary presentation on the topic ‘triangles’

for Grade IX students. It also includes the

application of the concept in everyday life.

The application of concepts forms the crux of

all teaching at The Global Edge. We believe

in the students understanding and applying the

concepts rather than rote memorising them.

Mrs Shailaja’s accomplishment speaks

volumes of the strong work being done at

TGES.

Annual Day Kaleidoscope 2013-14 : The Fourth Dimension

The Global Edge School celebrated its annual day with great revelry at the amphitheatre in Taramati

Baradari. With the emollient winter breeze recuperating the ethereal ambience, the theme of the show:

The Fourth Dimension tried to encompass the eternal pieces of art, dance; music and drama.

The masters of the ceremony took the audience to a wormhole which brought out the best form of

dance, music and drama, those exemplary bits which define even time.

The program started with a traditional welcome dance. The school choir presented melodious recitals

in Telugu, English, Hindi and Vietnamese. The English song, Hall of Fame by of The Scripts, an Irish

rock band formed in Dublin in 2001. The song inspires ordinary man to achieve extra ordinary things

in life. The Vietnamese song was about three frogs' merry life and the Telugu song was a very popular

folk melody which made the audience reminiscent , compelling them to join the choir. The

instrumental played by the enthusiasts of the school was greeted with a huge round of applaud by the

audience.

The three played, preformed in three languages succeeded in stirring different emotions in the

audience .The humorous Hindi play: 'Saste Hawai Jahaj Ka Sapna' tickled them to core; the Telugu

play was like a peek into someone 's dream; while the English tragedy, Hamlet by William

Shakespeare was appreciated for the strong performances of the actors.

There was a plethora of enchanting dances : Western fusion dance, Classical and Contemporary dance,

Robot dance, Avatar dance, Ega dance, Charlie Chaplin dance, Super girls dance, Spiderman dance,

Michael Jackson Dance . The myriad props used gave a special theme to each dance. The perfect

synchronisation, agility, and accurate steps left the audience awe-struck.

School Head presented the annual report to the audience and the ex X graders who made the school

proud with the glorious result were felicitated and presented mementoes.

The wonderful evening ended with the National Anthem and vote of thanks proposed pictographically

with credits.

Grade I's day out!

Grade -I went to a field trip on 9th November as a

part of the first term multidisciplinary project:

'Houses'. The pupils visited an independent

house, an apartment and a tent and observed

how they are different in their structure. They

realised what purpose each type of place of

dwelling served. The grandeur of independent

houses amazed them while the simplicity of a

tent enticed them.

Two students of TGES, Harini Rangaswamy of

event was an amalgamate of a practice session for

tomorrow’s reporters with the present leaders of

the trade and an attempt to identify the latent

talent, thereby, trying to lay the early foundations

of journalism and report writing in them.

The students had a very good learning experience.

It helped them to become more inquisitive and

perspective.

Social Studies Week- Social Awareness

On the second day, our mentor brought some musical

instruments and played. The first instrument made

sounds that made us feel as if it was raining inside the

room. The second instrument made sounds of thunder

and lightning. Then they mixed both the sounds. First

thunder and lightning and then rain sound. It sounded

real!

Then we all summarized what we have learnt during the

workshop. Later we were asked to write a story to screen

entries towards the final event “Katha Utsav” to be

organized in New Delhi.

Now I came to know that my story got selected for the

final event. I am excited and looking forward to join the

final event in New Delhi in December 2013.

Events at the Katha Regional Writing

workshop in Chennai

- K Sri Snigdha, The Global Edge School, Madhapur,

Hyderabad

I was one of the 200 participants who got selected out of

6000+ entries from all over India for the 2-day regional

writing workshop organized by Katha in association

with CBSE in Chennai. I came to know about other

cultures during the workshop as the participants of the

workshop are from different parts of our country.

On the first day of the workshop, we were first

introduced to each other. Later we were made to

exercise. The organizers asked us to make a mind map

of all the places we had been to in India and write it on a

sheet of paper and color it. Later they explained us about

all the elements of a story and requested us write three

short stories comprising all those elements.

Towards the end of first day, the organizers showed us

an educational video “Save our Sholas”. It was a nice

video and it showed us all kinds of wildlife and

vegetation. The video also described the destruction

happening over there. I had never seen a video so

realistic! Later we were asked to write a paragraph on

the video we saw. After completing the work, we were

asked to read first 6 lines of our work. It was so much

fun exchanging ideas with each other! Some of the ideas

were of mystery, some ideas were of fun and some ideas

were realistic!
