Technical System Developments:
Workshop this afternoon
Concepts
• Elpen Farm Systems (EFS)
• Farm System Groups (FSG)
• ‘Model Farm’ (MF)
• Reference Farm (RF)
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
Elpen Farm Systems (EFS)= The classification of FADN Farm Systems to 6 dims,
which are sets of coordinates:– ElpInputType: EIT := {low, medium, high, all }, #EIT = 4– ElpLanduseType: EUT := { offFarming, permGrass, grassland, arable, offFarmFodder, all
}, #EUT = 6– ElpLivestockType: ELT := {cattle, mixed, sheep, goats, all }, #ELT = 5– ElpProductionType: EPT := {dairy, mixed, meat, all }, #EPT = 4 – ElpStructuralType: EST := {small, medium, large, all }, #EST = 4 – ElpGeneraltype: EGT := {grazing, … }, #EGT = 8– for non-‘all’ systems only g=grazing is available.
=> EFS := { (i, u, l, p, s, g) EIT x EUT x ELT x EPT x EST x EGT | g=‘grazing’ i=u=l=p=‘all’}; #EFS=7+1920
Farm System Groups (FSG)
• Used to locate EFS (using FSS, Corine/Pelcom, and Elevation/LFA data)
=A disjunct set of collections of EFS elements ( = partial partition of EFS), grouped by Production-, Livestock, and Land use types (EPT, ELT, EUT)
• Labeled as {beefGrass, beefArable, dairyGrass, dairyArable, sheepGrass, mixedArable }
=> #FSG = 6
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
Model Farms (MF)
• Locates elements of EFS in time (Periods), space(Territories) and in the EU FarmType classification (EUFT)
• A model farm is a group of farms for which data is collected in the Elpen database (the set of Elpen variables) where #>15
• Each record in FADN db is a Model Farm
=> MF EFS x Periods x Territories x EUFT
#MF = 59.521
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
Reference Farms (RF)
• Actual farms that are related to a (set of) model farms (and therefore EFS).
• Additional information is collected and related to model farms.

S1_FssForMap• Case Generator Parameters:
– FssVariable,
– EuFarmType,
– Period
• Example: – NoHoldings,
– ‘All Holdings’,
– 1997,
– Country
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
LandCover
S2_LandUse_5km & ..._1100m• Case Generator Parameters:
– % per corine class & Pelcom (the maximum of the two is taken),
Generation of new items Example:
with case generator - arable landuse
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
FSS Desaggr (for FSG’s)
S3_FssDesaggration _5km & ..._1100m• S3 combines results from S1 and S2.
• Case Generator Parameters:– GridDistribution (from S2)
– FssData (from S1)
• Preconfigured:– PermGrass: Beef, Dairy, Sheep
– Arable: Beef, Dairy, Mixed
• Example: – Arable/Beef
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
DairyFarmCostModelS6_FarmCosts• Case Generator Parameters: NrHoursPerAWU
• Calculated for all records in Fadn db (= all MF)
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
DairyFarmBehaviourModel
S7_FarmBehaviour (proposal)• Case Generator Parameters:
– ProductionCost variable
– Future Market Price
– Price-sensitivity or Elasticiy
• Calculates for all records in the Fadn db
(= all Model Farms) a production change
• Production Change = (market price - cost price) * price-sensitivity or elasticity
• Discussion on Economic model(s): this afternoon
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
EfsForMap
S4_EfsForMap• Case Generator Parameters:
– EFS
– EuFarmType, Period
– territoryDomain: Country, H1, ER
– Fadn related variable (also DairyFarmCost model results)
– denominator {none, nrFarms, LU, UAA, …}
• (NYI) Maps with No of EFS of MF per region with a pop-up per region with occuring systems and reference farms for additional info
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
Example: – all, – ‘spec-dairy’, 1997, – ER, – MilkProdCost, – Per100kg
EfsForDynaCube
S4_EfsForDC• Case Generator Parameters:
– Fadn related variable
(also DairyFarmCost results)
– (NYI) denominator
{none, nrFarms, LU, UAA }
• (NYI) Create Map from
specific MF selection
• Example: – MilkProdCost
(in kEur per 100kg)
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
FSG location
Parameters:– GridProxy (from S3_FssDesaggr)
– Fadn var { LU, #Farms, UAA}
– EFS
– EuFarmType, Period
– territory domain {H0, H1, ER}
• LFA & Elevation classes are used
• denominator = gridSize in ha
• Preconfigured:– PermGrass: Beef, Dairy, Sheep
– Arable: Beef, Dairy, Mixed
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
Example: – Arable/Beef– UAA– Arable/Beef– ‘spec-dairy’, 1997– H0
S5_Fadn_Allocation_5km, …_1100m
DairyFarmBehaviourModel
S8_FadnComposition_5km, …1100m (NYI)• Parameters:
– Fadn related variable (also DairyFarmCost model results)
– set of desaggregated FSG
– Period, Territory, EFS, EuFarmType
• Calculates a composition per grid cell based on the locatedFSG’s
• Allocation & Composition will be discussed at Friday morning.
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
Remaining Issues
• Nitrogen maps / critical load (Afternoon)
• S9: Vulnerability & Environmental Impact Indicators
• S10: Socio Economic Data (Friday)
• S11: Socio Economic indicators per region (Friday)

• Make some space on your harddisk before Lunch (approx. 800mb; at least 400mb will be used)
e-mail: [email protected]://www.objectvision.nl
Discussion Points
• Socio Economic Indicators– Which (combination of) indicators?– From which data sources ?– Relation with other components (RF, MF)
• Environmental Indicators– Which (combination of) indicators?– From which data sources ?– Relation with other components (RF, MF)
