SERVICE PROVIDER’S PROBLEM

• Power density of ICT equipment is growing rapidly, which is

taxing the capacity of the existing 48V 10,000A systems

• The 48V DC systems are aging and experiencing rectifier

failures (predominantly ferros)

• Cable congestion is constraining the power levels that can be

delivered into the ICT load areas

An upgrade of the existing 48V centralized power systems will not

achieve the power densities that will be required for the coming years

… a transition to an alternative powering approach is necessary
