The Morocco Ouarzazate CSP complex at the junction of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert will be the lar-gest concentrated solar power plant in the world. Noor III is under construction and has a 250 m power tower, 150 MW output and 7.5 hours of storage.

Concentrated Solar Power Tower Concentrated solar power (CSP) systems generate solar power by using reflectors to concentrate a large area of sunlight onto a small area. The Noor III tower is 250 m high. Electricity is generated by converting the concen-trated light into heat, which then drives a heat engine connected to an electrical power generator.

A solar power tower stands in a large field of dual-axis tracking reflectors (heliostats) that concentrate sunlight on a central receiver at the top of a tower; the receiver contains a fluid deposit is heated to 500–1000°C (932–1,832°F) and then used as a heat source for a power ge-neration or energy storage system. At Noor III molten salt is used as a storage medium.

Electrical Heat Tracing (EHT) is employed to prevent the solidification (at 260°C!) of these molten salts and to maintain an accurate process temperature throughout.

By the way: translated, the Arabian word “Noor“ means “light“.
