Dear participant,
Each year the European Mise en Place Cup is a big success. Not only the quality, knowledge and creativity of the students claim to be the reason of this success. Networking is what also contributes to the success of the EMCup.
With this competition we aim to create and build long-lasting relationships, provide hands on experience, open up the horizon for education, build a bridge between schools and companies and connect young professionals to the industry.
Our motto is:“It’s not what you know but who you know that makes the difference”
With this Face Book, we offer you a tool to build, expand and support your network.
We wish you best of luck at this 7th edition of the EMCup. May the best team win!
Kind Regards,
EMCup Organisation
Preface
Dear participant,
The EMCup is an interesting competition for all stakeholders. We believe that hospitality plays an important role in our society. In our constantly changing world it is vital to share experiences and insights with likeminded people. Sharing expertise and building a strong network are the ingredients to come up with new and innovative products and market developments by which we are encouraged. Today’s market situation forces us to develop new ways of thinking to become successful. The source of improvement is the reality. After that, the process of development, innovation and experimenting starts.
The EMCup does not only offer an interesting and informative competition, students also have the possibility to receive dozens of business cards, handshakes and maybe even a connection that will help them in the future. It is the possibility to meet, share visions and build relationships with likeminded people from the worldwide hospitality industry in order to establish contacts for the next step in their career as a young professional. Also for the deans and directors and the EMCup partners it is an unforgettable experience.
That is why the true value of this competition lies not in the competition itself, but around it. Ask any well respected hotel management school alumni, how they have been able to accomplish their success and the majority will include ‘network’ to their answer. Great business ideas do not just create itself, they grow along their way. By sharing the idea, and by feeding it with ideas from other professionals, it becomes a great business idea.
Let’s keep in touch! Kind regards,On behalf of the EMCup Advisory Council,Organised by

Advisory Council
Floris drabbe HRC International“It is always a great pleasure to meet and interact with the young hoteliers of tomorrow and meet our old friends of the leading hotelschools around Europe. We very much look forward to welcoming you in February 2015 to enjoy this next edition of the ‘always improving EMCup’.”
Marianne Krohn Skål International“I believe the EMCup is a wonderful experience for young people in the hospitality industry and shall encourage them to continue in this profession. Our industry, the tourism, is the world fastest growing industry and the students now are our future of tomorrow. We in Skål International support our young members and the EMCup is a very good opportunity to network.”
Stephanie JamesonCouncil for Hospitality Management education“I have been involved in hospitality management education for 27 years and have taught in the United Kingdom, the United States and Switzerland. I have some pretty big shoes to fi ll, since my predecessor and CHME colleague Isabell Hodgson, was involved in the EMCup for many years. But it is with great excitement that I take on my role in the EMCup Advisory Council. Can’t wait to experience this competition in all of its glory.”
Filiep defraye Hotel- en Toerismeschool Spermalie / euhofa“The EMCup not only offers the students an interesting competition and connections that can help them with their future careers, it also provides teachers and deans the means to keep up with the hospitality industry. As a dean of a Hotelschool, I am honored to be part of the Advisory Council of an organisation that encourages innovative behavior and builds bridges between students and employers.”
elena CavagnaroStenden University of Applied Sciences“The EMCup brings together excellent hotel management students from almost all European countries. And it sets them at work around relevant and important themes connected to sustainability. The sustainability challenge is a major one for the hospitality and tourism industry, and to win it we need to engage our students’ minds and give them a perspective for action. The EMCup does this all. This is the reason why I decided to join: we share the same aim.”
Cees van der Klipeurhodip “The benefi t for the competence development of participating students is unique and will motivate them to cooperate in the global context of the hospitality industry.”
Jan Spooren The Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group“The power of the EMCup lies in a couple of factors: bringing together so many young and motivated talents, the networking opportunities as well as getting inspired through the innovation factor that is continuously present. It is therefore my pleasure to be part of the Advisory Council.”
douwe CramernHTV Academy of Hotel and Facility Management“I’m curious to experience the EMCup in its full glory; It is a great opportunity to exchange knowledge with each other. I am honoured to engage with the hospitality professionals of tomorrow and I look forward to the many encounters during the competition.”
Alberto Sanna Ospedale San Raffaele Scientific Institute“This year’s EMCup appeals to me because I am very interested in the theme which is chosen. As the Scientifi c Director of an innovative Research Programme in Service Design; e-Services for Life Design, I am very much looking forward to meeting all participants in order to share our ideas and visions.”
niels VugsMise en Place“This is my fi rst European Mise en Place Cup as Advisory Council member, so I’m really looking forward to meet the participating students in this year’s EMCup. I am curious to see the EMCup in its full glory and witness all the young professionals in action.”

As entrepreneurs and trainers at Q-staff, we have the chance to create challenges for ourselves and fi nd a lot of rewarding energy. Developing a company is exciting and brings so much challenging situations, that our personal development is guaranteed. A must for us, because we like to practice what we preach. The rewarding energy comes from all the people we see in all kinds of development programs such as the MEP-academy, which focuses on the development of the employees of Mise en Place. Seeing their growth and realizing that we had the opportunity to contribute in their development, gives us all the satisfaction we need.

The history of Crowne Plaza Maastricht begins in 1976. Nearby the little Watergate on the banks of the River Maas the construction of a fi ve star hotel named “Hotel Maastricht” started. On 2nd December, 1977 “Hotel Maastricht” offi cially opened. In 1999, a large increase took place at the Crowne Plaza Maastricht. Thirty executive rooms were built in a new wing plus a large meeting room, ‘Ceramique’ that can be separated in three meeting rooms. It is exceptionally suitable for large meetings and parties.
In 2006 a major renovation was started of all regular rooms and the various suites. In 2007 all executive rooms were renovated and renamed to ‘Club rooms’. On the ground fl oor the reception, lobby, bar and three meeting rooms were completely renovated in 2008. 2009 was, in spite of the recession, a very successful year for Crowne Plaza Maastricht. The hotel was included in the Michelin guide, became a selected member of Maastricht culinair and achieved several awards.
In 2014, the hotel has had a complete renovation. With this renovation the restaurant, the bar, lobby and the reception were totally renewed.

Vandrie Group
The Dutch-owned VanDrie Group is not only the world market leader in veal, but also a company built on the best family traditions. In the early 1960s, Jan Van Drie purchased his fi rst newborn calf for fattening. Today, with more than 20 companies, the group is the largest integrated veal producer in the world.
Backed up by Safety Guard, a unique integral chain management system, almost 1,4 million calves are processed each year, more than 95% of which are exported all over the world. The VanDrie Group provides ± 20% of all European veal.
Patricia van Krieken has worked for the Veal Promotion Foundation for more than 15 years. Her strong passion for the culinary world makes her good in what she does best: promote one of the fi nest cuts of meat available. Patricia can enjoy a fi ne glass of wine, she loves to travel, to ride horses and also has a keen taste for speed. She can frequently be found touring Europe on motor cycle. This dynamic combination together with her life long experience makes her unique in everything she does. If she doesn’t agree, you’d better think twice!

Apollo Hotels & Resorts is a chain of high-quality hotels and resorts in the Benelux. Each establishment is totally unique and has its own character, amenities and atmosphere: absolutely a source of inspiration for a hospitable stay!
Traditionally Apollo was the god who symbolized a zest for life. His lively character constitutes the foundation of our quality concept. The Apollo temple, built on the Greek island of Naxos, was the source of inspiration when we designed our logo.
Our vision; The aspect that all the hotels and resorts have in common is the respect for core values that translate into the three values: True Spirit, Hospitality (genuine zest for life) and Local Colour. Within Apollo Hotels & Resorts I am responsible for the Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam, a 223 room property just outside the City Centre and within a 10 minute walk of the RAI Convention Centre. The Wyndham Apollo Hotel has 5 meeting spaces, 2 restaurants and 2 terraces overlooking the famous Amsterdam canals.
Since April 2013 I am also responsible for E-Commerce for the whole group (with a strong focus on attracting more visitors to our websites and improving conversion).
