Jack Nut® is designed to be installed in sot or brittle materials such as
plastic, cardboard or glass.
Available in steel as standard or brass, Jack Nut® has 4 “legs” which expand behind theparent material providing excellent pull out resistance.
It provides a screw thread or subsequent component assembly and can be installed into tubularmaterials where only one side o the application is accessible.

WellNut® is ideal or isolating against vibration, electrical conductivity and

The POP Nut™ installation sequence is simple.
1. Push the POP Nut™ on the tool mandrel and it automatically spins on.
2. Place the POP Nut™ in the hole in the parent material.
3. Pull the trigger on the tool. The POP Nut™ collapses and ormsa ange on the back side o the parent material. The toolautomatically reverses and unthreads rom the POP Nut™.
4. Attach the mating part with a bolt and tighten.

The POP Nut joint
The ideal POP Nut™ joint is one where the mating part is
non-rotational and contacts the head o the POP Nut™.
Mating part ft
The hole in the mating part should be smaller than the
POP Nut™ head to insure contact with the POP Nut™ threads.
Tool access
The POP Nut™ tool must have perpendicular access to
the parent material. I the tool is held at an angle it can
cause premature mandrel wear.
Grip range
The parent material thickness must be within the
recommended grip range o the POP Nut™.
Backside clearance
Ensure sufcient clearance on the blind side when usingPOP Nut™ in tube sections, extrusions and other closed
applications.
Making the hole
The hole or the POP Nut™ must be square to the parent
material. Holes drilled or punched at an angle can cause
premature tool mandrel wear.

Test conditions

Apply torque to the bolt using a torque wrenchand measure the maximum torque at whichthe threading o the POP Nut™ or the bolt ails.
Test conditions
•Basematerial:Steel,1.2mmthickness
•Bolt:Hexboltorcapscrew(10.9orgreater)
•Jigholediameter(A):Nominalthreadsize + 1 mm
Apply compressive load to the bolt using atensile tester and measure the maximumload at which the threads or backside fangepart o the POP Nut™ ails.
Anti-Rotation Resistance (Spin Out)
The anti-rotation resistance o the POP Nut™, once set depends on several actors:
1 Sheet material In general, hard materials and rough suraces oer a better anti-rotational resistance.
2 Sheet thickness The greater the thickness, the higher the anti-rotational properties.
3 POP Nut™ shape Head Larger sizes increase the anti-rotational resistance.Body section Non round section provide higher anti-rotational resistance than a round section.Body surace Linear knurls increase the anti-rotational resistance.

5 Quality o the setting The wrong setting adjustment can dramatically reduce the anti-rotational resistance.
POP Nut™ Spin Out
POP Nut™ can be used with all the screws, providing the maximum torque, ater setting is not exceeded.

Electrolytic Corrosion(Corrosion due to contact between dierent metals)
I dierent metals are immersed in a conductive liquid in a condition whereby they contact each other, the metal othe lower potential (base metal) will become the anode, while the metal o the higher potential (nobler metal) willbecome the cathode. The resulting “local battery” will cause the anode metal to ionize and dissolve (corrode). This
form of corrosion is called galvanic corrosion or electrochemical corrosion, or more generally electrolytic corrosion.
Conditions That Promote Electrolytic Corrosion
(General Environment)
(1) Metals have a large potential dierence
(2) High temperature, high humidity, high acidity
(3) Small area o plating on the anode metal
(4) Air containing salt
Allowable Combinations o Dierent Metals
The MIL-STD-171A can be used only based on limitedmetal combinations as shown in the table below.Generally the electrode potential o the mating metalshould ideally be 0.1 V or higher.

When two metals are in electrical contact in the presence o an electrolyte, galvanic corrosion is possible.Metal with the greatest negative potential in a galvanic series will corrode most rapidly.
To help prevent corrosion cells rom orming all cracks, crevices, sharp bends, scale and other suracedeposit between interace areas should be avoided where possible.

Special surace treatment or use on aluminium materials
Steel POP Nut™ aluminium material galvanised layer
The zinc on the POP Nut™ corrodes in the area contacting the aluminium material. Once the POP Nut™corrodes, the aluminium material will also corrode. Although the degree o corrosion is small and thecombination o steel POP Nut™ and aluminium materials is easible in an indoor environment, cautionmust be exercised in an outdoor environment.
Corrosion o the aluminium material can be reduced by changing the surace treatment o the POP Nut™.

WellNut® is available in a chloroprene-rubber as standard or EPDM.
Chloroprene rubber oers stable strength and exhibits average levels
o all benefcial properties. EPDM is particularly suitable in an outdoor
environment where the nut must provide weather resistance, ozone
resistance etc.

Head Style
Flat Preerred. Provides a good bearing area or application surace and or bolted-on part.
Countersunk Usedforushheadsettingrequiringcountersink inappl ication.
Recommend fush or slight head projection above the surace o application or maximum ace contact and clamp.

Body Types

Round, Knurled Provides improved resistance to turning in round holes especially in soter materials such as engineering plastics

Clamp Thickness, Grip Range and Hole Dimension
Clamp Thickness The total thickness o materials into which the POP Nut™ is to be installed.

Blind-side Set Dimensions
Axial Set Length Set end protrusion is approximately 60% o the length o the POP Nut™ body plus 1mm or bolt end protrusion where
applicable. It is recommended that a trial setting be made i this dimension is critical.
POP Nut™ Selection
Theappl icationmaterial shouldbeof sufcientdensityandthicknesstosupporttheformationofthesetendange.
Determine the application material thickness, thread size and torque resistance required. From the application environmentalconditions decide the material o the POP Nut™. The attached part should touch the head o the POP Nut™ or maximum
torqueperformance.Usingtheappropr iatetables,determinetherecommendedholedimensionsandthePOPNut™size.

Recommended Bolt Length
Itisrecommendedthatthescrewlengthshouldprotrudeatleast2threadslengthbeyondthePOPNut™openend.
For a closed end POP Nut™ it is recommended that the ollowing ormula be used:
-Maximumboltlength=X+S+e+L2where
X = thickness of the attached part; S = POP Nut™ Flange thickness; e = Thickness of Application; L2 = Length of Body after setting
