new edition 2016
Content
After a long and exhausting day,
you need a break to get your
strength back. Your skin needs
it, too. It needs a bit more help
to recover – something with a
different texture and richness.
We want to show different
ways of developing caring and
reinvigorating formulations with
a buttery texture for face and body
that allow your skin to win
back its strength.
2 3
The viscosity, the body and the sensorial profi le of emulsions
are just some of the most important characteristics of an emulsion.
There is a wide variety of emulsifi ers on the market that have
good stabilization and emulsifi cation properties, but fi nding
emulsifi ers that allow us to have a targeted infl uence on
the above characteristics is diffi cult.
We would like to bring you new ideas for ways of working with
Dr. Straetmans emulsifi ers, with viscosity and sensorial profi le
constituting the main criteria for differentiation.

Butter - sometimes we need more
Sometimes the skin needs more: it needs variation in terms of texture
and richness. A creamy butter can serve this purpose. An option
would be to develop a W/O emulsion. But how can this type of
product be developed if it is supposed to be a caring O/W emulsion
instead? This means a challenge mostly with respect to achieving
a high viscosity and stabilizing a large amount
of oil while still maintaining the emulsion’s
nice and pleasant appearance.
Interesting, but just as challenging, is
the development of a highly viscous
emulsion with a small amount of oil
by choosing the right combination
of emulsifi ers and gelling agents.
The extremes are never easy to
reach.

dermofeel® GSC
· Naturally derived O/W emulsifier
· Anionic emulsifier
· Wide range of viscosities
· Combination with fatty alcohol is usual
· Recommended for combining with gelling agents
· Builds a light skin film
· pH range: 4 - 8
· HLB: 10 - 15
· Dosage: 2 - 4% as main emulsifier
0.5 - 2% as co-emulsifier
Formulating a highly viscous jar product concept with low oil content is a challenge. When the additional goals are to achieve a light feeling on the skin and easy spreadability, it can be diffi cult to fi nd the right approach. This concept is coming into focus for products for everyday care. Developing a gel-cream texture could fi t the briefi ng. To formulate these textures, you need a functional and effective emulsifi er that is able to support the gelling-agent system and optimize the sensory sensation.

Second conceptthe oily rich butter
Every extreme represents a challenge for the developer. Formulations with a large amount of oil and butter are diffi cult, especially when the goal is to have a smooth sensory profi le that is easy to apply to the skin. Butters and waxes can modify the skin feel, making it likely to smear and feel sticky. The challenge is to fi nd the right combination of emulsifi ers that create high viscosity, stabilize big oil phases and still result in a smooth and caring skin feel at the end.

Third conceptthe easy butter
If formulating butter concepts is that tricky, how can we make it easy? It is ideal to have a solution that helps to develop highly viscous emulsions without having to adjust so many things in your emulsifying system. We offer you a raw material that brings everything that a cosmetic butter needs: the viscosity, the rich texture and the caring skin feel. There is no need to add further consistency enhancers, texturizers or stabilizers: everything is in one well-balanced blend for your convenience.
