Sometimes the skin needs more: it needs variation in terms of texture

and richness. A creamy butter can serve this purpose. An option

would be to develop a W/O emulsion. But how can this type of

product be developed if it is supposed to be a caring O/W emulsion

instead? This means a challenge mostly with respect to achieving

a high viscosity and stabilizing a large amount

of oil while still maintaining the emulsion’s

nice and pleasant appearance.

Formulating a highly viscous jar product concept with low oil content is a challenge. When the additional goals are to achieve a light feeling on the skin and easy spreadability, it can be diffi cult to fi nd the right approach. Butters and waxes can modify the skin feel, making it likely to smear and feel sticky. The challenge is to fi nd the right combination of emulsifi ers that create high viscosity, stabilize big oil phases and still result in a smooth and caring skin feel at the end.
