As you will see below a huge number of students have been nominated this week for commendations and this reflects the effort and attitude of almost all our students who give their very best each and every day to the work in their lessons. In the last 7 days, our students have demonstrated their resilience and independence on the Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition, they have been great ambassadors at the Psychology Conference and on theatre trips to Aladdin and Caucasian Chalk Circle and I am sure that those students who are heading to Belgium for the Music Tour this weekend will both have a wonderful experience and will represent the school magnificently. We were visited by representatives of the SeeAbility charity this week, who raised a great sum of money in a very short amount of time with a cake sale. Once again, they were extremely positive about the support and attitude of our students. Finally, the annual Easter bonnets competition produced some amazing creations - this year with a distinctive Brexit theme! None of this would be possible without the willingness of staff to give up their weekends and evenings to provide these opportunities to our students, and I am very grateful to them all for all their efforts this term. However, the school is also fortunate to be supported by a fantastic PSA, I am extremely grateful to everyone on that team who organised such a successful Quiz Night last Friday evening. Easter Uniform Checklist We are fortunate to have a long Easter break ahead of us. Please can I ask that you take advantage of that time to ensure your daughter’s uniform is as it should be for her return to school on Wednesday 19 April 2017. The Summer Term is a long one and uniform should be correct throughout that period. Black leather shoes A jumper for Year 9-11; a blazer for Years 7 and 8 A skirt that is long enough to sit just on the knee One small stud earring in each earlobe All other jewellery - necklaces, rings and earrings – left at home A black or blue coat to be worn on top of the jumper or blazer, not instead of those items, if it is cold X No hair wraps X No nail varnish or acrylic nails X No trainers or plimsolls Thank you for your support with this.

Dear Parents and Carers

This week has encapsulated all the great things that have enriched the Rosebery community this term. As you will see below a huge number of students have been nominated this week for commendations and this reflects the effort and attitude of almost all our students who give their very best each and every day to the work in their lessons. Students return to school on Wednesday 19 April at 8.30am. After Easter we will be asking all students in Years 9 and 10 to join Years 7 and 8 in spending lunchtime outside, as long as the weather is fine. Increasingly tutor groups have found it difficult to recognise that it is a privilege to be allowed to be in their tutor rooms at lunchtime, something that most schools do not allow. Students can head to the canteen if they wish to be inside, but we do believe that some fresh air at lunchtime will also be a positive thing for many. Finally, as always at the end of a term, we bid farewell to some members of staff. Ms Harding leaves us to go on Maternity Leave. Mrs Robinson and Mr Beale are leaving the Science Department. Mrs Mitchell, one of our Teaching Assistants is also leaving, as is our School Business Manager Mrs Clarke. We thank all of these colleagues for their hard work and service to our school. Parents will be aware that we have been working very hard to seek specialist Science staff which has proved incredibly difficult; I am delighted that we will be joined by two Chemists, Mrs Parry and Mr Thomas after Easter. I hope that the Easter break affords all of you some time to be together with friends and family, hopefully in some Spring sunshine.

Trips

We have had to delay the departure of a number of trips recently as parents have not informed us that they have

withdrawn their child at the last minute. Please ensure that you do contact the school immediately if your plans

change.

Silver D of E

The weekend of 24-25 March, saw our first D of E expedition of the year with 48 Year 11 students participating to

complete their Silver D of E. The weekend was based just outside Eastbourne. Students camped for two nights and

walked just over 22 miles in two days with many students completing 35,000 steps on the Saturday.

The Sunday walk, brought lots of sunshine and amazing views as all groups walked over the Seven Sisters. Everyone

worked hard throughout the two days and they are looking forward to the next expedition in the New Forest.

Many thanks to Mrs Brice, Miss Hill and Miss Ramsay for taking the group.

The Year 9 & 10 Trip to Aladdin

On Tuesday 28 March a large group of year 9 and 10 Rosebery students went to see the Broadway Show, Aladdin, at

the Prince Edward Theatre in Central London. It lasted for approximately two hours and thirty minutes, which also

included the interval time. We all had a phenomenal time and we’re here to tell you why .…

Throughout the entire play, we never once lost interest. The bright colours, memorable music and brilliant actors kept

us hooked from start to finish! The way the set changed so smoothly between scenes was like magic! You’re in the

crowded streets of Agrabah with Aladdin and his friends, and then POOF! next thing you know, you’re in the Royal

Palace with Jasmine, Jafar, and the Sultan! The music from the original film was used, of course, but the songs were

sung (brilliantly!) by new people and there were new dance routines which made us feel like we were really in Agrabah

with Jasmine, Aladdin, Genie, and all the rest. The story flowed really well, and we didn’t ever need to stop to think

about whereabouts in the play we were or what was going on, and were able to simply enjoy the show. With the

pantomime feel, breath-taking set, and a magic carpet that truly seemed magical, there was no way we couldn’t have

fallen in love with it! Our favourite part of the play was when Aladdin was in the Cave of Wonders and found the lamp,

and the entire cave was gold! We also really enjoyed the Friend Like Me song, because the combination of dancing,

singing, and mind-boggling magic tricks left us completely convinced that the genie was, in fact, a real genie! We both

agree that he was the best character in the show, due to his jokey personality, incredible singing voice, and awesome

dance moves!

And that wasn’t all there was to it. The actors as well as actresses in Aladdin were most suitable for their roles. They

all seemed to possess this power which made everyone in the theatre experience the right emotions at the right time.

Every single actor and actress displayed great enthusiasm when they were performing as they gave it their absolute

all. This made the overall performance more exciting for everyone! On top of this, every participant in Aladdin wore

glistening costumes which instantly took everyone’s breath away. All the costumes were made to perfection since

they were all beautifully designed. My favourite was the Genie’s

costume as it stood out the most for me from the rest. The sets

were astonishing too as they captured everyone’s attention purely

by its beauty. The whole stage was just full of bright colours

everywhere! In my opinion, my favourite scene out of the whole

show was when Aladdin was trapped in the Cave of Wonders as this

was the first time when the Genie appeared in the show. I was

absolutely hypnotised by the illuminated lights and the incredible

set designs for this particular scene. There was also another

magical scene – which everyone in the audience admired – and that

was when Aladdin and Jasmine were riding on the flying carpet in

the beautiful night. The audience loved it so much that there was a

roar of applause and cheer which lasted for a very long time as the

scene was coming to an end. It was a very enjoyable experience just

by watching the stunning costumes as well as the vibrant sets!

Overall, we really loved Aladdin, and would completely recommend

it! Excuse the terrible joke, but we want to share this whole new

play with you! It was amazing, and we already want to see it again!
