    JABULANI AFRICA MINISTRIES

    DECEMBER 2014 NEWSLETTER

JAM 2014, as it comes to a close, has prov-en to be a year filled with change as wevesaid goodbye to dear friends and commu-nities and hello to the new relationshipsand adventures God has planned for us. Itwas filled with moments of rejoicing whenthe Duvenhages announced a baby on theway, Tessa became a wife, new camping

relationships in communities like Claas-troom and Prince Albert were a success, and new doors have opened in unreachedcommunities like Zoar. 2014 was a yearmarked with challenges that we saw Godovercome. Challenges like a distance splitamongst our staff as some were in Transkei, others were in Cape town. Things like allow-ing God to close doors to communities thatwe have grown to love like Hout Bay Harbor,

saying goodbye to our dear friends, colleagues and mentors, the Nunleys, andalso watching and partaking in the a diffi-cult healing and sanctification process of somany within JAM and in the communitiesweve worked in. As a staff, we have come

to realize just how much we need God todaily equip us as we continue to face newobstacles and challenges that make us relyon His wisdom ever more.

But we are also rejoicing. For we haveseen God work in a mighty and beautifulway, whether through amazing partner-ships weve watched grow and develop, or

individual relationships in the communitiesweve worked in for years who are finallycoming to realize the truth of Gods word. For the first time, our Valley Church family

joined us on an outreach to Transkei and wehave been so blessed to see that relation-ship blossom. Our relationship with West-side and so many other American churcheshave only grown stronger and we have alsobeen blessed to watch God reassure us of

those strong relationships despite hardships. Our partnered outreaches with our Ameri-can friends either to Transkei or the teamswho have partnered with us in Cape Townhave been truly of breath of life into ourministry and as individuals. Our JAM Year

students have only blossomed into amaz-ing young leaders fully capable of impact-ing their communities and we are only tooeager to see where God will take them andhow they will share their training. Wevewatched them grow into a character thatso much resembles that of Our Jesus andweve also watched them step up into new

roles of leadership whether that be speak-ing in front of crowd, leading a bible study, leading worship, facilitating a small group,or even learning independent living. All inall, God has been so present and so good tous this past year. Thank you so much for allof your continued support and we eagerlyawait what God has for us in 2015!

Now thanks be to God who always leadsus in triumph in Christ, and through usdiffuses the fragrance of His knowledge.

    (2 Cor.14)

This verse came up as I thought aboutthis year. So much has happened andthe appropriate response is to pause, ac-knowledge and thank God for everything. Here are a just few glimpses of triumph-or fragrance-stories that I believe will en-courage you. 1.) JAM team. This time of the year it isalways bitter-sweet. Saying good-bye to ateam that has been such an important partof our JAM family is never easy. It has beena joy to see this team become solid, matureand equipped leaders. Their desire to study, grow and serve has been a great encour-agement. Suzille, Michael, Enslin and Etti-enne - we will miss you but know that Godis about to write a new chapter in your lifestory! 2.) Camps. Through Gods grace we were

able to present 30 camps between our 4 dif-ferent bases this year. It is clear that Godhas camping ministry on his heart. Manyyoung people and kids accepted Christ forthe first time, leaders were trained, liveswere changed!

3.) Transkei: Mignon and myself had theprivilege of living in Bambisana village,Transkei, for the biggest part of the year.Apart from all the valuable lessons wevelearnt, we were blessed to be part of what

God is doing in this beautiful part of ourcountry. Mignon assisted Pumla in openingthe River of Life Pre-school, we were ableto pioneer camping- and rugby ministry inBambisana and were blessed to work withamazing partners, leaders and churches.

4.) Calitzdorp Skype team. Another ex-citing new process that started this year wasthe Skype team in CalitzdorpSkype standsfor Servant, Kingdom, Young People,Evangelism. 6 young people who have allbeen involved with JAM in some way or an-other, decided to start doing outreaches inand around Calitzdorp. They were trainedby JAM in February of this year and men-tored by Ds. Van Tonder. It was, and still is, a

privilege to have them as key partners! It give me much joy to know that, throughGods grace, weve been able to disciple

and train young Africans who can reachtheir communities for Christ, just like ourmission statement said. Another point to celebrate is Tessa thatgot married to Daniel Smith! Daniel has al-ready been part of the JAM family over thelast few years and we are blessed that it isofficlal now! When it comes to 2015 theres so muchto look forward to. God has blessed us withthe Nunleys for 3 and half years of faith-ful service, and now he is providing us with3 more staff members joining in January2015: Walton and Lianca Kruger who willbe based in Transkei and Nico Prinsloo whowill be on the Cape Town base. We are alsovery excited to see God continue to workthrough our camps, partnerships and in thecommunities he has sent us to. I would like to end by thanking each ofour prayer warriors, supporters, partners

and members of the JAM family for the partyouve played in making this year a success!May God richly bless you this festive seasonand may you experience the gift of Jesus ina fresh way this Christmas.

An experience this year where I reallysaw the JAM vision in action was dur-ing our July outreach to Mavhuza. There is

a sangoma (or traditional healer) there withwhom we have been working for a fewyears now Mama Trysa. God has been do-ing deep work in Mama Trysas heart, andshe is now very open to us sharing aboutChrist, and praying for her. She has told usthat she knows God exists because of howwe love her. She does not want to acceptChrist yet though, because she says that herspirits are troublesome. While we werevisiting her during our trip in July, she askedus to pray for her because she had problemswith her hips. One of our team members,Ettienne, prayed for her. When he was donepraying, Mama Trysa looked at him and toldhim, You have power. I have gone to many

other sangomas to get healing, and noneof them could heal me. But you prayed, andnow I am healed. You have power. Ettiennetold her that it is Gods power that healedher. Through the prayer of one of our teammembers, a sangoma experienced the truepower of the One true God, and how He ismore powerful than any other spirit. Whatmade this experience so wonderful for mewas that God did not do this through one ofus on staff, but He did it through one of ourteam members. That is the vision of JAM for those who we disciple to reach the lostfor Christ, through the guidance and powerof the Holy Spirit. Praise God.

There have been many times throughoutthe year where Ive seen the JAM visionin action. Part of the JAM vision is seeingpeople from different cultures, communi-ties and backgrounds, coming together andloving God and each other in unity. As aministry team, our hope is that we reflectthat love and unity in Christ to the worldaround us. During the last few weeks ofJAM, I saw this happen in a beautiful way.

During one of our last gatherings as team,

we went to a shopping mall to eat lunchtogether. We spent time reflecting on thehighlights and accomplishments of the year, and also answered silly questions like whowas your first crush?, sing a line from yourfavorite song and show everyone your fa-vorite dance move. We had a blast. Dur-ing this time, a stranger stood at the headof our long table, and took a group photoof us. I had assumed that someone on theteam asked him to take a photo of us. Af-ter taking several photos with his phone, hewalked away with the phone in hand. ThenI realized that no one asked him to take agroup photo, he took the photo of us on hisown initiative, with his own phone, and thenwalked away. It might seem like a funnything to do, but I saw something incrediblybeautiful in it. This man, this stranger, sawsomething different in us. We were a groupof young people, all from different races,

backgrounds, colors, and cultures, sharingin our love for God and love for each other. We laughed and played together, and ourlove must have been evident. This strangersaw something different in us. And what

he saw, he thought was worth capturing.

My relationship with God has grownhugely and ever bigger. JAM haspushed me to a point where I can influencethe hearts of young people for Christ. I seenow how much I need Christ and how im-portant it is to be in a relationship with Him;so important that i cannot afford to not relyon him as my father and everything. I have grown a lot in so many things butone thing that I have grown a lot in is Hisword and what it is to really push aside myown interests for the sake of others aroundme. The last thing that God taught me is tobe flexible and consider others more than

yourself. I have grown a lot in a way ofdecreasing myself so that He can be in-creased in me.

This year has really been a good long class-room session. Why I say that is becauseIve learned so much about myself, but mostimportant rather about the God I serve. Thepicture I painted and how the world pre-

sented these two things all my life becameclear. Through this ministry that played abig part of giving me a lens of better vision,I really got to know my God. Now in thebeginning of the year I was quite shakenup and pushed around because of my be-liefs. I had a hypocrite mindset and had nointegrity. I also cant say I have it all undercontrol now or I know everything, but I doknow my God is life itself. He is so tangible.I have a lot of peace, magnified compassionand this God the whole world will eventu-ally get to know. I trust Him with my wholebeing.

One of the numerous things God taughtme this year was honesty; with myselfand with others. The moment I realized thiswas when I came to terms with where I re-

ally am at during our leadership summit.God shed so much truth to me and broughtme to an amazing place of honesty duringthat time. For so long I was striving and try-ing to be in a place that I wasnt all because

Hello friends! We would just like to wish you a very merry Christmas from the JAM family to yourfamily. We are filled with so much Jabulani and rejoicing not only as we see the yearcome to a close and marvel at all that God has done this year. But also, we rejoiceover the coming of our king and the celebration of his birth. May you and your fam-

ily be truly blessed this Christmas season continuing through all of next year. Ourprayer for you is that you will have much to rejoice over as you look back on all Godhas done for you in your life this year and all that He has planned for you in thefuture. Praise be to our king! The JAM Team

of a little lie I had believed to be a truth. This lie was that I wasnt good enough and Ineeded to be better. For years this pridefulambition built higher and higher in me butas I came to JAM, God started to demolishit. He revealed the truth to me which is thatI am nothing and no one without him. HEmakes me something and HE makes me partof his family. It has nothing to do with me, Ican take no credit for anything. He gets allthe glory and honor! In his grace he taughtme that an honest heart, is a pure heart, and thats what he wants from me.

One area where I definitely saw the vi-sion in action this year was our timein Transkei. Firstly, seeing Prudence andPhumla, who were previously on our Mis-sionaries in Training team, living out theircalling, was amazing. They have really used

every bit of knowledge and experiencegained during their year at JAM, to makean impact for Gods Kingdom.

Secondly, I saw it in the training of youngpeople at camps presented on Bambisa-na base and one-on-one mentorship withchurch youth leaders. It is exciting to be-lieve that God will use the seeds sown inthe hearts of these leaders to create bigtrees for His Kingdom.

Lastly, it has been very exciting to seethat this vision is merely forming a smallpart of what God is doing on a BIG scale. He is teaching us that we are much moreeffective when we stand together in thebody of Christ. For this reason, seeing ourpartnerships with likeminded organisa-tions, yet all with different visions, grow

and deepen has been great. We believethat we can reach the lost in a much moreeffective and holistic way when we worktogether.
