The new library will start out with far fewer volumes than we have ever had, 8,266. This should make our move into the new library relatively painless. In the last 4 years we have weeded 6,740 books from the collection and passed them on to Better World Books/Room to Read, St. Cyrils library, the Salpointe Thrift Store and Friends of the Pima County Library.

Joan made the organizing and packing process as smooth as is humanly possible. Her process will be used in reverse when we set up the new library in December. She is an organizational genius.

Library Use

We didn’t circulate as many books this year, as last, probably because we had nothing new to offer. The students are always looking for the newest read and we didn’t have anything new until spring when we bought our first shipment of eBooks. This is especially true for Manga which is read sequentially. Unfortunately Manga isn’t available in the eBook format as yet. Our Chromebook circulation was phenomenal.

Student use of the library increased somewhat even though use dropped off slightly in May, after the move.
