What is Energy?

Energy is the ability to do work.

Kinetic Energy

• Riding a bike• Throwing a Lacrosse

Potential Energy• Potential Energy is energy stored in an

object.

• An apple on a tree before it fall

• Shooting a hockey puck before you release it.

• Thermal Energy is the total present kinetic energy resulting from the random movement of atoms and molecules.

• Boiling water• Body heat

Mechanical Energy• Mechanical Energy is the energy

acquired by the objects upon which work is done.

• Sharpening a pencil.

• Lifting weights.

Electrical Energy

• Electrical Energy is the flow of power or the flow of charges along a conductor to create energy.

• Lightning

• Static electricity

Energy Conversion

• Energy Conversion is one form of energy that can be converted into another form of energy.

• Flash light (chemical to light)• A light bulb (mechanical to light)

Law of Energy of Conservation

• Energy that cant be destroyed or created.

• Turning off lights
