Mombetsu City  Icebreaker Garinko-Go II As the icebreaker Garinko-GoII equipped with a large drill cracks and breaks through the ice, passengers are treated to a sight of fantastic color and sound created by the breaking ice mingling with the sea water. Only passengers can experience the fascinating world of excitement as the ship rocks above the breaking ice. During summer, the ship offers cruising and fishing for flatfish. All equipment and bait are provided by Garinko, so you need bring only yourself! Saroma Town  Lake Saroma Scenic Viewpoint Lake Saroma Viewpoint is located at the summit of Mt. Horoiwa-yama, approximately in the middle of the shores of Lake Saroma. Visitors get a view of Lake Saroma, the largest lake in Hokkaido, the sandbar that separates the lake and Sea of Okhotsk, not to mention the Shiretoko Mountain Range in the distance. The sun rise and sun set seen from this viewpoint is especially remarkable, and the mountain trail upward is lush with various trees, offering hikers a pleasant forest bath. Engaru Town  Taiyo-no-Oka Engaru Park Taiyo-no-Oka Engaru Park is a vast park covered with flowers from spring until fall. In spring the Shibazakura (Moss Phlox) and from summer into fall the over ten million yellow and multi-colored cosmos that bloom in the "cosmos garden"; one of the largest in Japan; offer a gorgeous panoramic view. Inside the park there are over 10 different varieties of unusual cosmos on display, and bright colorful zinnias in bloom that mesmerize many. Yubetsu Town  Kamiyubetsu Tulip Park Kamiyubetsu Tulip Park is a vast field of tulips covering an area of seven hectares, on which 1.2 million colorful tulips of all varieties including unusual ones imported from Holland and named "Kintaro" or "Momotaro" from children's fairy tales, bloom. The tulips are in bloom every year between early May and early June at which time the Kamiyubetsu Tulip Fair is held. Takinoue Town  Takinoue Park Takinoue Park is located on a small hill within the city, and between early May and early June the Shibazakura (Moss Phlox)covers the hillside in brilliant pinks, filling the entire city with the sweet aroma of the flowers. This is the largest colony of Shibazakura in Japan, and together with the added sound of the gorge that runs below the hill, the scene transports travelers into another world. During the Shibazakura Festival that is held at this time, helicopter sightseeing tours are provided. Okoppe Town  Michinoeki (Roadside Station) Okoppe Michinoeki Okoppe is a "roadside station" and a symbol of Okoppe Town. Due to the discontinuance of the JR Nayoro Line, the Okoppe Station was rebuilt and renewed as a "transportation memorial facility complex." Here at the Michinoeki is the Joy Park, where fountains, a wheel displayed as art, and remodeled diesel car welcome visitors, there is also Anew, the Okoppe Transportation Memorial Facility Complex, where you can learn about the history of the discontinued Nayoro Main Line. Nishiokoppe Village Michinoeki (Roadside Station) Nishiokoppe Kamu Michinoeki Nishi Okoppe kamu is an orange colored roadside station surrounded by forest and flowers. Inside the building, you will find the Karakuri Organ (Mechanical Organ) made by Mr. Motoki Tanime, one of the only two street organ craftsmen in Japan on display. The gentle sound of the organ welcomes visitors. Inside the flower park adjacent to the facility, over 100 varieties of seasonal flowers bloom. Oumu Town  Cape Hinode Cape Hinode is the view point of Oumu Town, with its back to the sparkling cobalt blue of the Sea of Okhotsk, it portrays diverse expressions of the town with each season. From La Luna, a glass-walled viewpoint located on Cape Hinode where the Sea of Okhotsk is stained crimson with the rising sun, you can also get lost in the sight of the setting sun. On the 35 kilometer stretch shoreline here in Sawaki Area, there are many seaside parks, campsites and other facilities centered around the Hotel Hinode Misaki. Kitami City Tokoro  Tokoro Curling Hall Tokoro Curling Hall is the first indoor curling rink in the nation and is open to the public between November and March for curling experiences and observation tours within the hall. It is also famous for being the location site for the movie "Simsons", a movie about curling, and in the parking area there is an " Old Tokoro Town Citizen's Handprint Monument where even the actors and actresses from the movie have left their handprints. Mombetsu City � Icebreaker Garinko-Go IIAs the icebreaker Garinko-GoII equipped with a large drill cracks and breaks through the ice, passengers are treated to a sight of fantastic color and sound created by the breaking ice mingling with the sea water.
