The English department of Indira Gandhi Government Arts and Commerce
College, Vaishali Nagar works efficiently towards achieving the target destined by
the institution and the department.
The following activities and work was done by the institution:
The Dept ensures regular classes of English language and English literature in all the
faculties of the college.
The dept Organize different activities in the college, as the faculties are member of
different committees of the college.
In this academic session two fold targets were achieved.
Firstly, students were familiarized with Basic Communicative English and Written English.
Secondly, students were encouraged with extracurricular activities within English
Department. To enable them to speak publicly in English.
Workshops and communicative English courses are organized every year by the
department.
All literature students took part in annual day and annual sports activities .
All literature students –U.G. and P.G. learnt valuable tips for answer writing in exams.
The department participates in social activities along with NSS as HOD of the department is
program officer of NSS.
The department organizes educational tours for interaction of the students with other
universities.
Achievements of the Department
Students achieved distinction in English literature – B.A Classes.
Prabhadeep Gautam- 81 %.
Kumari Sujata- 78%.
The department achieved 100% result in PG classes. 3 Students secured first division marks.
Kumari Pooja Singh 68% Smt. Gomati Sahu 65% Mirza Mustaq Beg 62%
Teaching Aids of the Department
• The department has prepared GRAMMER ACTIVITY BOOK for U.G classes.
• The department has prepared DIAGNOSTIC TEST BOOKLET for UG classes.
• The department has prepared WORKSHEETS for grammar practice to enhance practical
usage in grammar.
• The department has prepared POWERPOINT PRESENTATIONS (in English literature) for
post graduation classes.
Healthy practices of the department
• The department helps the financially weak student by paying for their books and fees. • The department celebrates birthdays of students and faculties to develop cordial
relationship and family atmosphere. • The department takes the students for outdoor community interaction such as restaurant
to develop practical communication skill. • The department attends to the students personal and academic problems anytime during
the college hours and also after college hours if needed to develop guardianship.
Short-term courses conducted by English Department
• A 3 days short-term course in English was organized from
14th-16th December 2015 for students.
• Spoken English Class for the staff from 19th-22nd December 2015.
• Five days workshop in Entrepreneurship development program was conducted from 19th-
23rd January 2016 with cooperation from ICTACT Tamil Nadu and Rajiv Gandhi National
Institute of Youth Development, Government Of India.
Seven days workshop in talking English skill with cooperation
from British Council
25th July – 31st July 2016.
