  • Introduction

    1 Introduction

This document describes the Enhanced Cell ID in Traces feature and its mainbenefits and impacts in the LTE RAN.

The Enhanced Cell ID in Traces feature makes it possible to identify the locationof a UE at a certain time. The uplink Timing Alignment (TA) value is collectedand used for group data statistics. The primary use is geo-observability.

    1.1 Basic Characteristics

This section describes the basic characteristics of the feature.

    Feature Identity

TDD: FAJ 221 2025, Enhanced Cell ID in Traces

    Replaces: N/A

    Dependencies

This feature has no prerequisite features.

This feature affects no other features.

    1.2 Benefits

This section describes the benefits of this feature.

The benefits of Enhanced Cell ID in Traces are to geographically locateproblem areas, cell border, coverage holes, crowded areas and minimize drivetest activities.

  • Feature Operation

    2 Feature Operation

This section describes the Enhanced Cell ID in Traces feature in more detail, including network configuration requirements and operation flows.

    2.1 Network Requirements

The following must be fulfilled at feature activation:

Contact the local Ericsson support to activate the Enhanced Cell ID inTraces feature.

    2.2 Collection of TA data

This feature makes it possible to group collect statistics on TA values. The TAvalue gives an indication of the distance of an UE to an antenna. Together withthe signal characteristics from other cells it is possible, after post processing,to identify the location of the UE at a certain time.
