ENHANCING SKILLS THROUGH ARTS Performing Arts | Drama At One World International School (OWIS), the focus of the drama programme is to develop problem solving and decision-making skills among students. The study of drama teaches the use of specific theatrical approaches and conventions in a structured way for effective exploration of ideas, texts, issues and themes. Students work on developing their skills and techniques both verbally and non-verbally, making room for a sense of creativity. Students practice and build upon various communication skills through the use of body language, facial expressions and voice modulation. The curriculum is designed to improve performance skills and techniques. They employ various techniques in a practical situation and learn to work on relevant projects, which improves the standard of presentation. The effectiveness of a range of dramatic techniques and conventions is developed, adapted and evaluated. OWIS also offers drama enrichment activities. Students can take part in drama clubs, workshops, school productions and experience trips to the theatre. Visual Arts The study of Visual Arts encourages creative thinking, problem solving, perseverance and an understanding of various processes. It teaches students various techniques and provides them with relevant materials, which helps them create a range of innovative and exciting outcomes in a variety of disciplines. Children from Early Childhood through to Middle School explore the key elements of line, colour, tone, shape, form, pattern, and texture, which support all areas of art and design. We aim to give students the opportunity to acquire a broad range of techniques and skills, exploring different materials, in both 2D and 3D. We deliver a comprehensive Arts curriculum, developed by combining the subject areas of Art and Design Technology. We combine the study of technique with the work of artists who typify that technique, for example while learning about colour and line students study the work of Piet Mondrian, and also look at the work of M.C. Escher while learning about pattern and shape. Students have a number of opportunities to visit art galleries and exhibitions, where they develop an appreciation for art and different artists throughout history. Primary Schoolin Primary school, the music curriculum takes an inquiry-based approach that allows students to have a sound understanding of various elements by applying concepts in a practical context and to discover links between music and other aspects of life.

concepts of pitch, rhythm, dynamics, timbre, notation and purpose are taught through performing and composing music with a wide variety of stimuli, including classical music, pop music and folk music from around the world.

Music beyond the Classroom

in addition to the weekly curriculum lessons, students have numerous opportunities to participate in music outside of the classroom. students aged 6 years and above who wish to learn a musical instrument may sign up for additional one-to-one tuition with specialist tutors from cristofori Music and Partners in Brass within school hours. this gives students an opportunity to learn piano, violin, guitar, singing, recorder, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and euphonium.
