ENMOTE Lecture GUNN-BRITT RETTER EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SÁMI COUNCIL DO16.01.2020, 17.00, ÜBUNGSRAUM Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology, NIG, Universitätsstraße 7, 1010 Vienna, 4 th Floor Gunn-Bri Reer was born and raised in the coastal Saami community Unjárga-Nesseby by Varangerord in northea- stern Norway. She was trained as a teacher at Sámi Uni- versity College (Guovdageaidnu – Kautokeino, Norway) and holds an M.A. in bilingual studies from University of Wales. Since 2001, Reer has worked with arc0c environ- mental issues, first at the Arc0c Council Indigenous Peop- les’ Secretariat (IPS) (Copenhagen, Denmark). She served as a member of Saami Parliament (Norway) for two terms (2005 – 2013). In her current posi0on with the Saami Council which she has held since 2005, she has been invol- ved in issues related to indigenous peoples and knowledge related to climate change, biodiversity, language, pollu0on and management of natural resources.
