4. Course Descriptions:

5. Approach to learning and teaching: As with all courses, what you get out of this course will be the result of what you put into it. To emphasize the importance of this course, your standard of living later in life may very well depend, at least to some extent, on the knowledge you gain in this class. Besides learning how to start a business and write a business plan, you will see other subject areas such as negotiation skills, problem solving skills, risk management, decision making skills etc.. will come to play in this course. This course will employ a variety of teaching methods. The teaching methods employed in this class may not be familiar to you but I seriously believe they will provide you with enough variety to attract your attention and to keep your interest. I view my role as one of a resource person whose primarily responsibility is to facilitate learning rather than to preach to you or try to impress you with the knowledge I have acquired.

I encourage you to expand your intellectual horizons, to speak up in class with your ideas or questions, to study with others in the class and to come see me with any and all thoughts and/or comments you might wish to share.

It is my sincere desire to help you learn about starting up a business and how to manage it; simultaneously, I will share you my entrepreneurship experiences that I earned from my last business that I started up in Silicon Valley, California.

6. COURSE OBJECTIVES AND OUTCOMES

Upon completing this course, students should be able to: • Have knowledge of the context, concepts and process of entrepreneurship • Be able to visualize or recognize entrepreneurial opportunities • Be able to determine the viability or feasibility of a new business concept • Write, execute and critique a business plans • Visualize entrepreneurship as a career and lifestyle option • Problem solving skills • Negotiation skills • Risk management • Decision making skill • Human resource management and conflict resolution • Knowledge of corporate management and project management

7. If you have difficulty with the class

If at any point in time you are having difficulty with the class, I expect you to see me during office hours, make an appointment to see me at a mutually convenient time or call me to discuss problems. I expect specific questions ,"I just don't understand" is not an acceptable question. There is no valid excuse for you not to do well in this class. I am available for you and you feel free to access me.
