Zoran Mušič, the best known 20th century Slovenian-born painter and a man with more than one homeland, spent most of his life between Venice and Paris. He mostly painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, Dalmatian donkeys and horses, trees, views of Venice, double portraits with his wife Ida, and poignant self-portraits depicting him as an old man. His visual motifs were always related to the Slovenian region of Kras and its typical scenes. He became world famous with his series of paintings We Are Not the Last, in which he relived the scenes he experienced in the Dachau concentration camp. Ljubljana’s National Gallery displays the world’s only permanent survey exhibition of Mušič’s work. The majority of exhibited works come from the Ljuban, Milada and Vanda Mušič Collection, owned by the family of the artist’s brother.Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00-20:00. Closed: Mondays

The cult New York-based avant-garde rock band Swans was founded in 1982 by the singer Michael Gira. The band soon made a name for themselves for their extreme and often dark musical expression, which, among other things, influenced the development of industrial music. Later the band’s music progressed through different creative phases and underwent several transformations. The Swans disbanded in 1997, after the release of the album Soundtracks for the Blind, on which they combined all their musical elements. In 2010 they unexpectedly reformed and released the album My Father Will Guide Me up a Rope to the Sky. In 2012, they acchieved a large critical acclaim with the album The Seer, this year they released the ultimate album entitled The Glowing Man.

The new vocal theatre project by renowned Slovenian composer Karmina Šilec tells the story of musicians on the Titanic, who kept playing until the end, while the largest ship ever built was sinking. Their music became a way of taking over control in the middle of chaos and in the middle of the unknown; it maintained hope and embraced what was inevitable - the death.

Andrés Marín comes from Seville and together with singers and musicians, he presents flamenco in his own way. With his show titled Carta Blanca, he portraits a unique image of flamenco, sometimes primitive, sometimes classical, baroque and avant-garde. To Marín, flamenco presents a personal prayer, an honest expression, which does not seek to enforce and therefore hits straight in the heart.

Cirque du Soleil, the famous Canadian artistic ensemble who “reinvented the circus” will perform in Ljubljana for the first time with their production entitled Varekai.Deep in the woods at the top of a volcano, there is a magnificent world where everything is possible. It is called Varekai (meaning “anywhere” in the Romani language). A lonesome young fellow arrives there and starts to unravel the colourful world full of phantasy creatures. He flies away to experience an unforgettable adventure, encountering on his way the wonders and secrets of the world and mind. This spectacular production, with its explosive mixture of drama and acrobatic tricks directed by Dominic Champagne, pays a special tribute to nomadic souls, the artistic spirit of the circus tradition, and to all those who are passionately engaged upon the search for the path to the unknown.
