Environmental Workforce Training
Program
Unemployed? Underemployed? Dislocated Worker?
Today’s job market is challenging. Finding and keeping a job requires higher skill levels and knowledge of new technologies. The Environmental Workforce Training (EWT) Program is here to help you meet those demands. Developed by Earth Conservancy as part of its mission of environmental and economic revitalization in the region, the EWT Program offers a sequence of courses designed specifically for individuals looking to enter a career in the environmental, surveying, and construction fields. The 2½-month curriculum, taught by faculty at Penn State Wilkes-Barre, will help you develop new skills and receive the training you need.
The EWT Program has been funded in part by a grant from the USEPA to Earth Conservancy

The EWT program can help lead to exciting careers in engineering, construction, remediation, environmental cleanup, and more, with starting salaries averaging $15-20/hour. Job opportunities can include:
Environmental Field Technician
Survey Technician
HAZWOPER Technician
Brownfields Remediation Technician
CAD Technician
Utility Field Technician
With our partners, we’ll work with you to help find you employment after graduation. You’ll leave the EWT Program with
20.5 hours of federally-recognized continuing education credits from the Pennsylvania State University
3 federally-recognized certifications
professional résumé and cover letter
letter of recommendation
Successful completion of EWT Program requires participants to attend all days of the training cycle.

The Courses
The Result
By enrolling in the EWT Program, you’ll acquire skills that meet employers’ needs, building your confidence and improving your opportunities for career change and advancement. Courses are taught by faculty from Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Courses will include:
Introduction to Brownfields
AutoCAD, Level I
Surveying Field Assistant
Basic Surveying Techniques
GIS for Resource Conservation
HAZWOPER 40 Certification
OSHA 10 Certification
First Aid/CPR/AED Certification The EWT Program is a $4,289 value, with costs underwritten through a grant from the USEPA. All courses will be held at the Penn State Wilkes-Barre campus in Lehman, Pennsylvania. Field trips will also be part of the curriculum to ensure you receive the

In order to apply to the EWT Program, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:
Resident of northeastern Pennsylvania
High school graduate or GED
Aged 18 or older
US citizen or authorized worker
Classify as an unemployed, underemployed, or dislocated worker
Hold a valid driver’s license
Have reliable transportation
Consent to drug test and background checks
Like to work outdoors
Possess strong math skills
Able to perform tasks involving physical labor
Able to commit to full 2½-month program
Agree to one year of follow-up interviews
