Supper Club, September 16, 6:30 at the Bolter’s. Hosted by Lois Bolter, Lyn Toomey and Marthajane Cassidey. All are welcome. We are having chicken and rice casserole.

The menu will be as follows:

• Meat Loaf • Lentil Loaf • Macaroni & Cheese (regular and vegan) • Rice with Sardine Sauce (a Nigerian dish

compliments of Irene Fawole) • Marinated Vegetables

Regular timing for everyone: prep cooks at 1PM (or whenever you can get there), servers at 4:45PM and dishwashers shortly after 5PM (the bulk of our diners are still arriving promptly at 5...maybe they are afraid that we will run out of food???). Desserts are needed, as well.

A report from last week...WOW! What a crowd, and what a good time we all had!! Based on order forms collected, we served at least 120 meals and collected over $560 in donations. Part of that was from cookbook sales, but after accounting for that, this was still a big night for us. There are plenty of cookbooks left, so if you didn't get yours or want multiple copies, that shouldn't be a problem. Thanks so very much to Cindy Brewer and her group of musicians. The musical accompaniment to the meal (Cindy insists that they weren't performing...just jamming) was such a fabulous treat! I have heard from many people how much they enjoyed having our musicians for the evening. And the musicians enjoyed themselves so much that, starting in November, they agreed to play during the café every first Wednesday of the month! This kind of takes our café to a whole new level. :)) Many thanks to all of you, Lella

This month we serve the ladies of McKemie on Thursday, September 28th. Our menu is: Barbecue Chicken sliders Baked beans

See Sue Rollins or Lee Ann Beachell to order.

Hurricane Irma Refugees Thank you to everyone who helped welcome and accommodate our visitors fleeing from Hurricane Irma this past weekend. Thanks also to those of you who wanted to help, but didn't get the opportunity, since our visitors didn't really stay with us very long. We provided shelter for 18 people and 4 dogs during the height of the evacuation, but everyone left on Monday. The group returning home to Fort Lauderdale sent us the following message upon their return: "Hi, this is Marta from Florida. I just wanted to let you know that we are at home. We got here at 6:00 am. We found a lot of trees and branches on the ground. I am happy that from this hurricane I met you and the church...beautiful people full of love and kindness. Please tell everybody about how grateful we are for all of you. Thank you for everything you do!" This was the first time we have offered the parish house as an emergency shelter for people evacuating due to a natural disaster. It is clear that we have much to do to "perfect" our response in such times. If you would like to be a part of that discussion, please contact Lois Bolter or Lella Lowe. We will work to formalize our response so that we are better prepared for the next time an opportunity presents itself to serve in this manner. Thanks, Lella

What in the world is pickleball? A fun sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong. Played both indoors or outdoors on a badminton-sized court and a slightly modified tennis net. Played with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. Played as doubles or singles. Join the Redeemer team at Via on Dauphin Street on Friday mornings. For more info see Joy, or Virginia Corker.
