Fun for You! 7
We had a busy time during the Christmas period with lots of visitors. Bradford on Avon Bap-tist Church Choir came to sing some lovely Christmas Carols and did a few beautiful readings.
We ventured back to Victorian England with a traditional Father
Christmas. He and his helpers bought along some nostalgic items to take our residents back in time. We also learned that Fa-ther Christmas was originally dressed in green robes until Coca-Cola branded him and changed it to red robes, to match their logo.
We had an outing to Whitehall Garden Centre where they had a beautifully deco-rated Christmas walk through, where you can buy unique Christmas decorations. They also have an ice rink at Christmas time, our residents really
enjoyed watching people skating, followed by a tra-dition Cream Tea.
On Christmas morning we had a surprise visit from Father Christmas who came to share gifts with our residents. Everyone was very happy to see him.
We had 2 celebrations this year. The residents enjoyed a first class Christmas party in Decem-ber and a lively belated New Years party in January.
We all enjoyed the Musical won-ders of Mike and Muriel, who now come to visit on a regular
basis as the residents loved their per-formance so much.

men who fought for our country. We had poppy’s on sale as we do every year. All residents bought one and wore it over the remem-brance period.
Most of our residents remember the war and what it was like to live in those times so it is important to them that it is remembered.
Our Activities Co-ordinator, Lesley McNamee took 6 of our residents to go and see a musical being performed at Hilperton Village Hall—’Hilperton’s Lovely War.’
Hilperton’s Lovely War was based on Joan Littlewood’s ‘Oh What A Lovely War’, but excellent work by director Pam Turner means it includes facts about the men from the village who died in the conflict and are remembered on the Church Street war me-morial. They sang songs from the original musical but it was really a great homage to those

Christmas Festivities!!
Steve Chudley at Lyrics on Screen still comes in on a monthly basis to entertain the residents of The Old Vicarage and across our other 3 homes as well. Not only did our resi-dents enjoy the parties, their friends and families did too.
Everybody was welcome to join in the fun.
We were very lucky this year to have Dave & Ewe visit us. We had lots of lovely ani-mals join us
in our garden and fortunately we had a nice dry day.
We had Alpaca’s, ducks, sheep, goats, rabbits, chickens, ponies and the list goes on.
It was lovely to see the resi-dents get up close and personal
with animals that they may not have interacted with before.
Our residents really appreciated the experience.
Even our less mobile residents got to enjoy some animal fun as the organizers were kind enough to bring some of the smaller furry and feathery critters in to the home for a cuddle or two.
Relatives and staff came along too, to join in with the fun bring-ing their fami-lies. The kids thought it was fantastic.
As the resi-dents enjoyed it so much they are visiting again on Saturday 18th April 2015 between 2pm and 4pm and everybody is welcome.

We have enjoyed lots of activi-ties so far from gardening,
walks, feeding ducks, outings to the shops, going to church, to a drink at the
local Bear inn of a Tuesday afternoon. We have had some fantastic entertainers in from Tony playing his Didgeridoos, singing bowl and saxophone, Emmaus school choir to our
rare. Some people will only see one in a lifetime and others not at all.
Some residents watched the Eclipse outside but not looking directly at it—as this can be dangerous. Others watched it from the comfort of the lounge on the Television.
We were lucky enough to see a Total Solar Eclipse this year—they don't come around very often our last one was
11th August 1999. We more often have a ‘Partial’ Eclipse—a total Eclipse is very
Starting The Year Off….
Staff and residents at Longbridge Deverill House enjoyed a fan-tastic day of Hallow-een fun. Residents decorated Halloween Cupcakes and with the help of staff and adorned the house with fantastic decorations. This all culminated in a Halloween and Bonfire night themed quiz.
Longbridge Deverill House
Bonfire Night
Every year on 5th of November we celebrate Guy Fawkes night or more commonly known as Bonfire or Fireworks night we had a lovely display of fireworks in the garden, with resi-dents viewing from the lounge and dining room, followed by some toasted teacakes, tea and coffee. It was lovely to see everybosy enjoying a clas-sic English tradition. ‘My father has
found happiness
and contentment
at Longbridge
Deverill House that
I would never have
thought possible.
He loves the staff,
the food, and the
gardens’

Christmas Festivities
On the 19th December 2014 we had our Christmas ex-travaganza, with a theatre company coming in to per-form a festive production. Our residents loved singing along and even dancing with the theatre company and it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening for everyone.
On the 22nd of December 2014 we had our Christ-mas Open House and raffle. We had lots of fam-ily attend and raised some money for the residents activity fund. The Mince Pies were flowing, and nicely washed down with
lots of Tea and Coffee.
On the 25th December we had a visit from Santa and his little Dog helper (Rudolph was having a rest after a long night), to hand out all the pre-sents and
stockings. We had a full house on Christmas day with festive music and lots of family in at-tendance.
Sprucing Up Our Garden!
At Longbridge Deverill House we have been getting ready for Spring and Summer by planting sum-mer bulbs out in the garden.
The residents really enjoyed get-ting stuck in with planting the
Bulbs and Herbs to spruce up our Gar-den. They are all looking forward to seeing there bulbs grow and develop into beautiful flowers.
We have also added a sensory walkway
within the home, consisting of various fragrant herbs. We are
looking forward to expanding our sen-sory walkway with Lavender and some summer plants in the coming months.
To kick start the year
we had a new year
party with our regular
Steve Chudley! The
residents loved hear-
ing all the old songs,
and many were up and dancing
away.
We will
be hav-
ing a
themed
month
throughout the year this
year, to have a basis for
activities, meals and enter-
tainment. January was our
Morocco month, we en-
joyed looking at lovely pic-
tures and learning about their cul-
ture, as well as
enjoying a taste
of morocco with a
tasty Tagine and
Cous-Cous. We
also started a
memory café event,
which went down so
well we will be having
them once a fortnight.
Residents and family
members are free to
join us in the roof top
terrace for tea and reminiscence
with music, books and trinkets.
