ERATH COUNTY4-H NEWS
AUGUST 2014
The week of July 14-16, 2014 held many new experiences for over three-hundred and fifty 4-Hers from across the state. Every other year the Texas 4-H and Youth Development Program hosts an event called Texas 4-H Congress, this is a premiere citizenship and leadership event offered for Texas 4-H members. This event allows 4-H members from across the State to participate in the legislative process.
Erath County 4-H was proud to have two of their own members participate in 2014 Texas 4-H Congress; Quinton Whitfield and Bayli Williams. Quinton and Bayli were both members of the House of Representatives and debated bills over current and future
issues Texans face. Whitfield and Williams sat at the same historic desk our House of Representatives currently conduct business from today. The Texas 4-H and Youth Development program is one of three organizations that are allowed to utilize the capitol in such a capacity.
Along with serving as members of Congress, these 4-H Members also had the opportunity to meet numerous House of Representatives such as Rep. Cecil Bell from District 3, Rep. Ken King from District 88 ,and Rep. John Raney from District 14. Erath 4-H members who attended described their experiences at Congress as moments they will never forget.

This year’s projects consisted of an owl pillow, hotdog style pillowcase, hanging towel, and a jewelry bag. We also had a community service project that campers made at camp, which was a no-sew caterpillar. The caterpillars were
donated to the Rainbow Room for children. Campers that attended the sewing camp also donated hygiene products for the community.
THANK YOU!!!Special thanks to our amazing volunteers: Star Council (Harriet Frazier, Kellie Ulbricht, Rhyland Ramirez, Jahmicah Dawes), Doris Threadgill, Pat Schipper, Judy Meador, Martha Jones, Christy Agnew, LeslieRahye Strickland, and JoEllen Miller.
And thanks also to 4-Her, Alissa Adams, and TSU Extension interns, Kellie Morris & Lauren Russell.
We could not have done this without you!

The 2014 4-H Sewing Camp had an excellent turnout! We had a total of 27 campers attend sewing camp this year, along with our wonderful volunteers to help make it run smoothly.

Sewing Camp
Stations included a pancake/ crepe station, herb station, outdoor cooking, pastabilities, and outdoor activity. At every station, participants got to eat, smell, cook and try new things. The pancake/ crepe station allowed participants to cook pancakes and decorate them with whipped cream and fruit. They also made crepes that they filled with vegetables and Swiss cheese. At outdoor cooking, participants made baked apples in foil wrappers. Yum! All of it was delicious! Pastabilities taught participants about how to make homemade pasta and about
Food Challenge. The herb station allowed participants to smell and see a variety of herbs and learn what food to pair with different herbs.
THANK YOU!!!Special thanks to our amazing volunteers: Star Council (Marcus Cook, Kellie Ulbricht, Jahmicah Dawes, Rhyland Ramirez), Judy Meador, Paula McKeehan,Leslie Rahye, Bill & Will Strickland, Ellen Wells, Shannon Buchannon, Rhonda Dickey, and to TSU Extension interns - Lauren Russell & Kellie Morris
