President’s Memo
Established in 1988 and located in Istanbul, Turkish
Ready Mixed Concrete Association (THBB) is an
NGO which promotes standardized ready mixed concrete
production and use in Turkey. THBB is also representati-
ve of the interests of ready mixed concrete producers in
the country. THBB is a leading authority and resource for
development and control of concrete quality in Turkey.
THBB also takes part in the development and distribution
of national and international standards. Our organization
provides necessary tests, technical resources, and educa-
tional programs for concrete producers and other parties
who work in the fields related to concrete.
THBB is made up of three parts: at the heart of THBB there is Quality Assurance System
(KGS), and also there are Construction Materials Laboratory and Education Unit.
Main goal of our organization is to promote and widen the use of controlled and stan-
dardized concrete. For this purpose we have founded Quality Assurance System in
1995 and started a certification program. This program aims to increase the number of registe-
red concrete producers among the country. Necessary tests for the certification are conducted
in our laboratory by highly qualified technical staff. Construction Materials Laboratory is loca-
ted in the campus of Yildiz Technical University and employs a chemical engineer (PhD), a civil
engineer (MSc), a physicist engineer (MSc) and six technicians.
THBB works in collaboration with international organizations. THBB is a proud member
of ERMCO since 1991 and we have been an active participant of the activities of ERM-
CO ever since. Now, we are glad to announce that we will host ERMCO congress for the second
time in Istanbul on 4-5 June. After 20 years, we are happy to reunite the ERMCO family here,
in Istanbul. We also have the honor of hosting Dr. Surendra P. Shah as the keynote speaker in
the congress.
We believe that it will be a very productive congress for both concrete producers and
scholars. As THBB, we would like to see you at XVIIth ERMCO Congress in Istan-
bul, where two continents meet.
THBB President Yavuz IŞIK

Istanbul is a natural gateway spread over two continents, Europe and Asia, divided by the
Turkish Straits. It is also a metropolis proud of its rich history of 8000 years.
The natural beauty, exciting sights building a bridge between the past and modern times, and
the modern infrastructure of the city makes Istanbul a unique meeting place for international
business congresses and meetings.
As Napoleon Bonaparte said, “If the world was a single country, Istanbul would be the capital
of it’’. Istanbul is also the capital of art and cul-
