My name is Barbara Brown. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state ofArizona andan EMDR Clinician level II in which I work with trauma victims. The purpose of this letter is tointroduce myself and to inform you of the areas in which I practice. My goal is to cultivate aworking relationship with your law firm and to provide psychological services to those clientsthat suffer from Post Acute Stress Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Grief, Depression,and other psychological injuries. I currently work with several law firms in the Phoenix area.

In my prior profession I worked as a personal injury paralegal and office manager for ten years. Iwas responsible for interviewing the client and assessing'their personal injury claims. I prepareddocumentation, sent letters of representation to the insurance companies, managed the claims,obtained records and bills, compiled demands, and negotiated claims. That said, "I understandthe dynamics ofa personal injury claim" and understand the significance of writing concisereports. In addition, when I managed the claims, I recognized the psychological challenges thatmany clients suffered. 'Pnfortunately, "in my opinion," psychological injuries were not includedin the settlement demand, basically due to the inability to find a therapist willing to provideservices on a lien basis.

When a person has been traumatized, subsequent to an injury, they often recall the traumaticexperience. It is as though they are reliving the traumatic event again. They may experiencetriggers that bring the event back to the forefront of their thoughts, for example, seeing, hearing,feeling, and evening smelling specific cues. The traumatic event is "stuck" in their brain and allthe fears, anxiety, and emotions come back alive. These memories remain alive, sometimesconsciously and often times unconsciously. These thoughts and feelings may stay with the clientthroughout their life and often presents challenges for the rest of their lives. Most often the clientdoes not understand what has, or is happening to them.

Examples oftrauma may include: an automobile or motorcycle accident, a dog attack, a slip andfall, a plane crash, witnessing someone getting killed an accident, an unexpected death of a lovedone, witnessing a traumatic event, non-verbal or verbal abuse, and sexual assaults. Trauma canbe an ongoing process and when left untreated, may debilitate a person emotionally andpsychologically for the rest of their life.

In summary, the purpose of this letter is to introduce myself to you and provide insight into whatservices I provide and to inform you about the serious affects that a client may suffer whenexposed to trauma. I believe that my background in personal injury and now the mental healthprofession is a benefit to your law firm and your client's claim.
