queridos visitantes y amigos de madrid:Ya estamos en mitad del otoño y podemos disfrutarlo con los verdes, ocres y rojizos que visten los árboles de las calles y parques de nuestra ciudad. Por si este es-pectáculo no fuera suficiente, durante este mes Madrid cuenta con la banda sonora que, fiel a su cita anual, nos ofrece el festival de jazz. Una excusa perfecta para vivir, en alguno de los muchos espacios participantes, la magia de la música en directo. Madrid ofrece siempre una agenda plena, pero permítanme que este mes les señale una cita muy especial: el 20 de noviembre el Museo del Prado presenta El joven Van Dyck, una de las mayores exposiciones jamás dedicadas a este genial artista del siglo XVII. Esto es sólo una pincelada de lo que pueden encontrar estos días en nuestra capital. Les invito a descubrir, en la revista y paseando por la ciudad, mucho más. ¡Que disfruten de Madrid!

dear friends and visitors to madrid, We are well into autumn now and can enjoy the display of greens, reds and ochres offered by the trees in our city’s streets and parks. But as well as this visual feast the capital will delight our ears this month with the annual Madrid jazz festival, a perfect opportunity to enjoy live music at any one of the many venues where this popular event is being staged. Madrid’s diary is always full but I would single out one item in particular: on 20 November the Prado Museum presents The Young Van Dyck, one of the finest exhibitions ever of work by this outstanding seventeenth century artist. These events will give you a taste of what is happening in Madrid these days but there is plenty more for you to discover in our magazine or just walking round the city. Enjoy Madrid!

El Festival de jazz de madrid celebra, entre los días 6 de noviembre y 2 de di-ciembre, su 29ª edición. Patti Smith, Mi-chel Camilo y Tomatito, Martirio y Chick Corea Trio serán algunas de sus estrellas.

Son ya 29 las ediciones que suma el Festival Internacional de Jazz de Madrid, convertido en cita imprescindible para los amantes del género. Es el evento musical más esperado del otoño, que, en esta ocasión, será inaugurado por el pianista cubano omar sosa y el trompetista sardo Paolo Fresu, que actúan juntos el día 6 de noviembre en el Teatro Fernán Gómez. Bajo el título de Alma, ambos artistas pro-meten crear un ambiente íntimo a través de once composiciones donde se yuxta-ponen comedidamente los ritmos latinos y las brillantes y vigorosas improvisaciones.

Hasta el día 27, fecha en la que el negri cerrará la agenda en esta sede con un tributo a Armando Manzanedo, pasarán por este mismo escenario grandes figuras, como martirio y su espectáculo El aire que te rodea (día 10), Tommy emmanuel (día 13), Antonio Zambujo (día 14), cow-boy junkies (día 15), stancey Kent (día 18), ray lema (día 20), jorge Pardo (día 22), Paquito d’ rivera (día 23) o la larry martin Band (día 24), que celebra su 25º aniversario como uno de los mejores re-ferentes del jazz-blues hecho en España.

The Madrid International Jazz Festival, which has now reached its 29th edition, has become a date that no jazz fan should miss. It is the autumn’s most eagerly awaited musical event and will open this year with a performance by Cuban pia-nist omar sosa and Sardinian trumpeter Paolo Fresu, who will be appearing to-gether at the Teatro Fernán Gómez on 6 November. In a show entitled Alma, the two musicians will create an intimate atmosphere through eleven compositions which skilfully combine Latin rhythms and brilliant, vigorous improvisation.

Until 27 November, when el negri will end the series of concerts at this venue with a tribute to Armando Manzanedo, it will be the scene of performances by such great figures as martirio with her show El aire que te rodea (10th), Tommy emmanuel (13th), Antonio Zambujo (14th), cowboy junkies (15th), stacey Kent (18th), ray lema (20th), jorge Pardo (22nd), Paquito d’ rivera (23rd) and the larry martin Band (24th), who are celebrating their 25th an-niversary as one of the leading exponents of Spanish jazz-blues.

El Teatro Circo Price abrirá su programa-ción con la actuación de silvia Pérez cruz (día 8), que presenta en Madrid su primer trabajo, 11 de noviembre. A ella seguirán la camerata Flamenco Project (día 9), Óscar d’ león (día 12) y toda una leyen-da internacional, como es incógnito, el día 17. El Conde Duque albergará, por su parte, un total de 22 conciertos, entre los que destacan las tres veladas con jóvenes músicos de la muestra israel (días 9, 10 y 21) y también la muestra italia, que reunirá a grandes nombres femeninos de la escena italiana actual (días 15, 16 y 17).

Fuera de estos escenarios principales, otras importantes actuaciones tendrán lugar en Madrid. El día 4 de noviembre michel camilo y Tomatito llenarán de arte el Auditorio Nacional, por el que tam-bién desfilará chick corea Trio (día 2 de diciembre). En La Riviera será donde la gran Patti smith y su banda presen-ten, el día 15, su último trabajo, Banga. Además, diferentes clubes repartidos por toda la ciudad se sumarán al festival, que completa su programación con las de los ya clásicos Festival de Jazz de San Juan Evangelista y el de Ciudad Lineal.

The programme at Teatro Circo Price will open with a performance by silvia Pérez cruz on 8 November, presenting her first solo album, 11 de noviembre. She will be followed by camerata Fla-menco Project (9th), Óscar d’ león (12th) and international music legend incógnito on the 17th. Conde Duque cultural centre will host a total of 22 concerts, including three evenings with the young musicians of muestra israel (9th, 10th and 21st) and three sessions with muestra italia, which brings together leading female perform-ers from the current Italian music scene (15th, 16th and 17th).

Apart from these main venues other loca-tions in Madrid will also be staging perfor-mances by outstanding artists. On 4 No-vember michel camilo and Tomatito will be appearing at the National Auditorium, where there will also be a performance by the chick corea Trio on 2 December. At La Riviera the great Patti smith and her band will present their latest album, Ban-ga, on 15 November. Other clubs across Madrid will also be supporting the event, and there will be performances as part of the traditional San Juan Evangelista and Ciudad Lineal jazz festivals.

Del 2 al 5 de noviembre, Madrid acoge la tercera edición de esta gran cita del humor, con los mejores artistas del momento. Queda prohibido aburrirse.

Por tercer año consecutivo, el Festival de Comedia de Paramount comedy llega a Madrid dispuesto a sorprender a todos los apasionados del género, que tendrán ocasión de asistir a los monólogos de algunos de los artistas más famosos del canal televisivo. En esta ocasión, como gran novedad, iñaki Urrutia, david Na-varro y manu Badenes, compartirán es-pectáculo el día 2 de noviembre en Joy Eslava (Arenal, 11) con cómicos llegados desde Comedy Central Latinoamérica. Una noche muy especial, repleta de stand up, que promete ser el principio de una gran amistad (20:00 h).

En el mismo escenario, el día 3, los aman-tes de la buena música podrán disfrutar del concierto del polifacético actor Álex o’dogherty y su divertida banda, la Bi-zarrería, que presentan ahora juntos en Madrid Mi imaginación y yo (20:00 h). El Teatro Barceló Sala Pachá (Barceló, 11) es el lugar elegido por el quintento Humor de Protección oficial, formado por J.J. Vaquero, Nacho García, Álex Clavero, Qui-que Matilla y Fran El Chavo, para poner en escena Tendencias (21:00 h). Una mezcla de sketches y monólogos sobre las últi-mas modas en nuestro estilo de vida con el que pretenden que el público no pare de reír ni un solo minuto.

Como gran colofón, el Teatro Lope de Vega (Gran Vía, 57) acoge 10 cómicos 10 (21:00 h) un show comandado por el inigualable Ignatius Farray, que con sus hilarantes presentaciones irá dando paso a un elenco renovado: David Navarro, Álex Clavero, Nacho García, Luis Álvaro, Kaco, Miguel Esteban, Jorge Segura, Miguel Irí-bar y Pepe Céspedes. Todo un festival que promete quedar para la historia.

For the third year running, the Paramount comedy Festival is coming to Madrid in-tent on amazing all comedy fans, who will have the chance to see monologues by some of the TV channel’s most famous performers. There’s some exciting news this year, as on 2 November, iñaki Urru-tia, david Navarro and manu Badenes will be sharing the stage at Joy Eslava (Arenal, 11) with comedians from Comedy Central Latinoamérica. A very special night of stand-up, which promises to be the start of a beautiful friendship (8pm).

La nueva exposición del Museo del Prado es la pri-mera que se celebra en España en torno a la figura de Van Dyck (1599-1641). Centrada exclusivamente en su obra de juventud, abarca el periodo compren-dido entre 1613 hasta su marcha de Amberes a Italia en octubre de 1621. Durante estos ocho años de producción temprana, Van Dyck pintó unos 160 cuadros, muchos de ellos obras de gran tamaño y ambición creativa, de los que el Prado posee el conjunto más importante.

La muestra, compuesta por noventa pinturas y di-bujos, permite estudiar en profundidad la carrera del joven artista y poner de relevancia que su talento precoz se manifiesta no sólo en la cantidad, sino también en la calidad de sus obras. Incluso de no haber pintado más que los cuadros de esta etapa temprana, Van Dyck sería uno de los pintores más importantes del siglo XVII.

The Prado’s latest exhibition is the first devoted to the work of Van Dyck (1599-1641) to be held in Spain. Focusing exclusively on his early period, the exhibition will span the years between 1613 to his departure from Antwerp for Italy in October 1621. Over the course of those eight years of his early career Van Dyck painted around 160 works, many of them large-format, ambitious composi-tions of which the Prado now possesses the most important collection.

Featuring ninety paintings and drawings, the exhibi-tion will allow for an in-depth study of the young art-ist’s career, highlighting the fact that his precocious talents revealed themselves not only with regard to the number of works that he produced but also their quality. Had he only produced these paintings from the first part of his career, Van Dyck would still be regarded as one of the most important artists of the 17th century.

En toda la pintura de Nacho Torra hay algo contradictorio, que se pone de especial manifiesto en esta exposición. Con ella vuelve a crear, a través de enérgicos trazos y colores brillantes, movimientos obsesi-vamente cambiantes: pinta y repinta, borra y añade nuevos elementos una y otra vez.

There is something contradictory in all of Nacho Torra’s work and this is especially noticeable in this exhibition. Once again he uses vigorous brushstrokes and bright col-ours in a constantly changing sequence, painting and repainting, repeatedly elimi-nating and adding elements.

El ciclo Tecnología y 7º Arte aborda as-pectos clave en la relación entre cine y tecnología a través de películas de los directores Fernando Trueba, Paco Plaza, Kike Maíllo o Javier Fesser. Los días 23 de noviembre y 14 de diciembre se pro-yectarán algunos de sus filmes y habrá un coloquio posterior con ellos, moderado por el guionista David Trueba.

The cycle Technology and the Seventh Art deals with key aspects of the relationship between cinema and technology, through films by directors Fernando Trueba, Paco Plaza, Kike Maíllo and Javier Fesser. On 23 November and 14 December some of their films will be shown, after which there will be a discussion chaired by screen-writer David Trueba.

The Madrid en Danza Festival returns to the capital with an extensive programme combining the latest on the international dance scene with the best crea-tive work in Spain. Performers will include Peeping Tom, with the show For Rent at Teatros del Canal (16 to 18 November), which is also the venue for the production by the Marie chouinard Company (9th to 11th). 06 EL RETIRO PARK. This green lung in the centre of Madrid boasts several places of interest, such as the lake, the Glass Palace and the fountain of the Fallen Angel. At its southern end is Cuesta de Moyano, home to the park’s perma-nent bookstalls.

07 REINA SOFÍA MU-SEUM. Home to Picasso’s Guernica, the museum features Spanish and international avant-garde art. Here you can see pieces by Dalí, Miró and Tàpies, amongst others.
