Message From President's & Hon. Secretary's Desk
Dear Doctors,
Our year 2019 - a very happening year is coming to an end.
This year brought so many good as well as bad news for our
Medical fraternity as well as for all of you in your personal life.
But then life has to go on and we have to march ahead with full
force and vigour to achieve our goals. Every year we make some
resolutions in our life at the starting of the new year - so let us
make a different resolution this year. This resolution is for your
soul. Let us sincerely spend some time in counselling our
patients for prevention of Life style diseases, Tobacco-De-
addiction and Cancer. Now a days the world is going towards
Preventive Medicine rather than Cure. As we all know, now, No
New Antibiotics are to be invented - so let us all promise
ourselves to use antibiotics judiciously. Multi-antibiotic
therapy to be avoided.
Ahmedabad Medical Association is organising excellent
Scientific as well as Entertainment and Social Service events. Let
us be more active in our own association and attend the
programs in large number. This year we will be addressing all
the burning issues of present situation so I request all you
intellectuals to come and attend these events and make it
successful and also update your knowledge.

Ahmedabad Medical Association is organising a very interesting, competitive and entertaining event - INTER-SPECIALITY ANTAKSHARI COMPETITION. We have invited two teams (three doctors in each team) from every speciality and an Antakshari Competition will played amongst the teams. The Initial Rounds will be on Saturday 18/1/20 and Final Rounds on Sunday-19/1/20. We have kept lot many Audience participation prizes. So , we invite all of you to be an active part of this event and encourage the teams and also enjoy by winning prizes.
The Salient features of the Competition :-
• Every Speciality will have TWO TEAMS Participating
• Each team will have 3- Doctors each
• Draws for the competition will be on 18/1/20
• Each initial round will have 4- Sub rounds
• Final teams will be selected by elimination in initial rounds
• All the Rounds will be played by LIVE ORCHESTRA
• The judgement taken by the JURY will be final
• Lots of Audience Participation Prizes
• Participation fee for each Participant of the team will be Rs. 200/-
• Every Participant will be given a token Gift

Dear Friends,
During the National Epilepsy Conference (ECON 2020),
we are planning a meeting of epilepsy patients, under
aegis of Indian Epilepsy Association - Ahmedabad Branch
and Ahmedabad Medical Association. There will be short
talks by National and International Speakers, followed by
Question-Answer Session. Dr. John Stern from UCLA, USA
will share his views and experience. All doctors are
requested to inform their epilepsy patients and family
members. Registration is free, but compulsory.

Diwali Get together was organized by Ahmedabad
Medical Association on 10th November, 2019. For the
entertainment of members, we had a Gujarati stand up
comedian – Mr. Chirayu Mistry. He was excellent and made
the audience laugh and relax.
We also had Mega Housie in which Prizes upto --
30,000/- were given.
It was most entertaining and fun filled event. The
delicious food added the right touch to a perfect Event.
Special thanks to Dr. Adit Desai, Dr. Jeetendra Shah, Dr.
Kalpita Dave, Dr. Gargi Patel, Dr. Sahil Shah , Dr. Chintan
Gandhi, Dr. Dhiren Mehta for making this event a great
success.
Ahmedabad Medical Association organised an
informative programme on 'Diabetes'. We doctors have
noticed that in our practice we are now getting more and
more young patients of Type-II Diabetes- this is because of
the Fast life style , Fast food and Excessive Stress. Also
treatment -resistant patients are increasing. So to update our
knowledge regarding cure and prevention of Diabetes an
excellent informative CME was organised on 17/11/19 -
Sunday from 9:00am to 1:00pm in association with Dia-care
Associates.

ALL ABOUT DIABETES
1. Dr Padmanabh Zinzuwdia highlighted increasing
burden of diabetes in society and we Indian develop
diabetes at early age at lesser BMI and also develop
complications earlier which progresses faster.
2. Dr Navneet shah enlighten the typical challenges
which we have in management of diabetes
managements in terms of lack of awareness, fear of as
well as negligence of diabetes treatment, clinical
inertia to start and escalate diabetes management,
failure to screen for the complications and lack of
system of continue care. He also addressed the
possible solution which we may have at public and
policy maker level including consideration of healthy
lifestyle in schools, universities and private and
government sectors. Consideration of nutritional
therapy in insurance. Incentives for diabetes people
for maintaining good glycemic control in insurance.
Need for universal diabetes prevention program and
must diabetes management training of Health Care
Professionals.
3. Dr Sanjeev phatak addressed the issue of clinical

inertia that is failure to escalate therapy when needed. The problem is that severe diabetic patient spends approximately 6 years in hyperglycemia before the therapy is escalated. He also introduced the clinically very useful and simple tool to monitor the health of the people with diabetes, BLUE INDEX : DIABETES HEALTH SCORE which encompass 10 important parameters and BLUE INDEX score < 35 is poor diabetes health and > 45 is good diabetes health
4. Dr Rutul Goklani highlightened the various controversies in diabetes including controversies in diagnosis and cut off for weight, body mass index, target for the management in terms of HbA1c and other, controversies raised in various guideline to choose the therapy, which and when, mono or combinations, insulin or noninsulin. He also explained simple clinical criteria to take clinical decision for the diabetes management.
5. Dr Pratap Jethwani took us in tour of various current and future technologies useful in management of diabetes, including noninvasive glucose monitoring, smart glucose meter of cornea lens and ear lobe as well as sweat glucose monitoring ,continuous glucose monitoring AGP to mobile monitoring, various devices to deliver insulin from smart pen to I port to insulin pump and newer noninsulin treatment options.
6. Dr Dharmendra Panchal took us through the clinical journey in diabetes management from uncontrol to control and from reversal of diabetes to remission of diabetes. Hope for the cure and how clinically we should go for the reversal.
The program ended with delicious lunch. All in all a very successful CME.

for 1600 Female Police of Ahmedabad City from 25th Nov.'19 to
29th Nov.'19 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Ahmedabad Medical
Association.

Ahmedabad Medical Association in association with
Senior Citizen Club organized a scientific program on
Sunday-1/12/19. President Dr. Mona Desai gave a welcome
speech and appreciated the senior doctors , as at this age
also they are eager to learn more. The speakers and their
topics were:-
Dr. Abhay Khandekar – Common Geriatric Urinary
problems
Dr. Sanjay Rajput – Constipation
Dr. Rushabh Kothari - Tumour Markers for Elderly
Dr. Urman Dhruv – Nutrition for Elderly
All the topics and speakers were very informative and
the members learned a lot from their talks and many
concepts were cleared which helped the clinician in their
day to day practice. It was a very successful scientific
program and very well attended. Hon. Secretary Dr. Dhiren
Mehta gave Vote of Thanks. The program ended with
delicious lunch.

A Walkathon was organised on 8th December-2019 in
association with Samved Breast Cancer Awareness Team
and Ahmedabad Medical Association at River front in the
morning at 6:30 am. More than 2000 people participated in
this Awareness Walkathon. Dr. Shefali Desai -Breast Surgeon
was the key person to organise this event and President of
Ahmedabad Medical Association - DR. MONA DESAI was
the Guest of Honor.
The event started with welcome address by Dr. Shefali
Desai and then an energetic aerobic dance by Miss Ruju on
the tunes of popular bollywood songs . Dr. Mona Desai
addressed the crowd and talked about Breast Cancer
Awareness , two other guests also addresssed the crowd
and then the Cancer winners gave their victory speech. All
were felicitated. After vote of thanks by RJ Nimisha
Walkathon was started by releasing Pink Balloons by the
Guests from the stage.

Ahmedabad Medical Association with ACF- Ahmedabad
Cancer Foundation and Apollo-CVHF -- Cardio Vascular
Health & Fitness to arrest the menace of Cancer and Heart
diseases for tobacco users.

Dietician, Asian Bariatrics introduced by Dr. Manjit Nayak -who discussed nutritional deficiencies in obese patients in both pre-operative and post-operative scenarios. A significant vast majority of obese people suffer from various nutritional deficiencies including Vit B complex and Vit D. She also discussed about ways to prevent and treat these nutritional deficiencies.
To complete this interesting session, Dr Mahendra Narwaria again chaired the session and discussed role of Endoscopy for treatment of obesity and diabetes in both as primary setting and adjunctive setting after surgery. He discussed results of various non surgical endoscopic therapies available today and how these are benefiting us for a healthy living.
5) In the end there was Panel discussion very well moderated by Dr. Navneet Shah MD-Physician- he was introduced by Dr. Ashish Bhojak.

Scientific Committee of AMA organised a CME on Sunday -15/12/19 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.
The topics were selected which would be useful to every doctor in their regular life -whether practice or personal. The audience was welcomed by Hon. Sec. Dr. Dhiren Mehta.
This program was in association with NG0- JEET for TB and Asian Bariatrics - Obesity Conclave to impart new insights .
The Speakers and the topics were as under :-
1) Dr. Swati Gohel - MD -Infectious Disease- was introduced by Dr. Sahil Shah . She spoke on Pulmonary and Extra Pulmonary TB with case representations and also how we can Be Leaders for a TB Free World.
2) Dr. Mahendra Narwaria- Director of Asian Bariatics -was introduced by Dr. Vipul Shah. He talked. about latest scientific developments about Metabolic Surgery. He also discussed about Indian experience about Metabolic Surgery and how India is becoming the Diabetes capital of the world.
Dr Narwaria also shared his knowledge and expertise of how Metabolic surgery has become the new standard of care in uncontrolled diabetes and how patients benefit with significant improvement in glycemic control after surgery.
3) Dr. Sunil Mehta -MD -Physician- was introduced by Dr. Sunil Chenwala - He elucidated the role of exercise and Physical activity to achieve optimum results for patients who want to reduce weight. He shared the current practices and know how to beat weight regain after initial weight loss.
He also talked about the proper way of doing exercise and also for every patient we should advise customised exercise.
