January 3, 2014 Lockout/Tagout Supplies Energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal or other sources in machines and equipment can be hazardous to workers. The unexpected startup or release of stored energy during the servicing and maintenance of machines and equipment could cause injury. Proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices and procedures safeguard workers from the release of hazardous energy and are found in PUB-3000 Chapter 18 “Lockout/Tagout Program”: http://www.lbl.gov/ehs/pub3000/CH18/CH18.html If you are trained and authorized to perform lockout/tagout, make sure you have the proper equipment available. This includes a red lock, a LOTO tag, hasp, and LOTO devices for securing the energy source. Most items are available though eBuy. The EETD Division Safety Manager may also have some common items available for loan. Here are some examples of commonly used LOTO supplies available through eBuy. Make sure you have a hasp, red lock, and LBNL approved LOTO tag available prior to performing any type of LOTO.
