devicesthatgeneratethedataareproducersandthedevicesreceiving

theinformationareconsumers.Multicastismoreefficientthan

unicast,becauseconsumerswilloftenwantthesameinformation

fromaparticularproducer.Eachdeviceonthenetworkcanbebotha

producerandaconsumeroftraffic.Whilemostdevicesgeneratevery

littledata,networkswithalargenumberofnodescangeneratea

largeamountofmulticasttraffic,whichcanoverrunenddevicesinthe

network.UsingmechanismslikeQoSandIGMPsnooping,organizations

cancontrolandmanagemulticasttrafficinindustrialenvironments.
