We come from the town of Vilkaviškis. The town is situated in the southwest of Lithuania.

•Quite a few representatives of ethnic minorities live in Vilkaviškis district as well.Roma people also live in our region.There are 32 students of Roma origin who learn in our district schools.

• They usually get primary education, but they seldom accomplish basic and secondary education.

• The main occupations of Romes are trading, fortune-telling and music.

Wonderful and interesting music of Roma people enriches the Lithuanian folklore and the folklore of other countries as well.

Shrovetide (Užgavėnės) is the festival of saying farewell to

winter and celebration of spring and renewal.

Easter was celebrated by our ancestors as the festival of nature revival.One of the oldest customs, which still exists nowadays, is decoration of eggs.

Joninės (Dew Holiday)– St. John’s Day is the celebration which occurs in midsummer when we have the longest day and the shortest night.

There are bonfires all over Lithuania on this day and everybody is searching to find the magic fern blossom at midnight.
