The Eucharistic miracle of Montserrat brings us toreflect on the reality ofpurgatory and reminds us that every Mass has aninfinite value because it makes the unique sacrifice of Christ suffering on Calvarypresent in our minds. This Eucharistic prodigy isreported by the Benedictinepriest R.P. Francio de PaulaCrusellas, in his text, New History of the Sanctuaryand Monastery of Our Lady ofMontserrat.

n 1657, the Most Reverend Father DonBernardo de Ontevieros, General of theBenedictine order in Spain, and Abbot

Don Milln de Mirando, arrived at theMonastery of Our Lady of Montserrat in orderto participate in some conferences. During oneof the conferences, a woman and her youngdaughter showed up and the daughter began tobeg the Abbot Milln de Mirando to celebratethree Masses in memory of her deceased father,whole-heartedly convinced that with theseMasses the soul of her father would be freedfrom the pains of purgatory. The good abbot, moved to tears by the girl, began to celebratethe first Mass of suffering the next day, and thegirl, who was present with her mother, confirmedseeing her father kneeling, surrounded byfrightening flames at the step of the main altar

during the consecration. The priest andGeneral, dubious, asked the girl to put a tissue close to the flames that surrounded herfather in order to verify her story. Followingtheir request, the girl put the tissue into thefire, which only she could see, and the tissuebegan to burn with a lively flame.

During the second Massthe girl confirmed having seen her fatherdressed in a vibrantly colored suit standingnext to the deacon. At the third Mass, thefather appeared to his daughter dressed in asnow-white suit. As soon as the Mass endedthe girl exclaimed, There is my father goingaway and rising into the sky! The girl thenthanked the community of monks on behalfof her father as he had asked her to do. The
