Evaluation question 1 – In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Our film has been edited using a grey scale or black and white filter, this is a stereotypical genre convention of film noir. Giving the film a gritty appearance and adding to the film noir atmosphere. Our main protagonist is a white male and this is the typical race and genre of the main characters in the film noir genre. Although he is a young man which is not typical of the genre. Anti- hero and goes against the prop being fairy tale character types and doesn’t conform to the typical character type.

Evaluation question 1 In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?Our film has been edited using a grey scale or black and white filter, this is a stereotypical genre convention of film noir. Giving the film a gritty appearance and adding to the film noir atmosphere.

Our main protagonist is a white male and this is the typical race and genre of the main characters in the film noir genre. Although he is a young man which is not typical of the genre. Anti-hero and goes against the prop being fairy tale character types and doesnt conform to the typical character type.

The piece was shot using low key lighting, also one thing that is important is that the feature of film noir genre, heavy emphasis on shadows and darkness which completed the atmosphere.

The piece is set in an urban area and is in an alley which is located in central London. A key genre convention of film noir.

Alcohol was used in the piece for the mysterious file which is a key convention of the film noir. Although we used energy drink instead of alcohol and put the energy drink into an alcohol bottle to make it look realistic.

Title and credits that was used gave it a film noir feel with the font theme that was used as it was spread out throughout the opening scene.

The Close ups that are used adds to the tension of the scene and the mystery, him having a face that is not shaved shows he has lately been going through a lot of stress and some kind of struggle.

Blunt object as a weapon is used and from this, the audience know that the film will contain scenes of violence as in noir; violence is a key factor of the film. Noir films tend to focus on areas such as crime, law, gangsters and journalists in many cases.

A tilted camera angle is used and is a strange angle for your audience to view as it helps grab their attention as to why they are looking at this scene in this type of angle which adds to the mystery of film noir. The shot can be very powerful visually and emotionally for the audience and creates a dark mood.

The soundtrack that as used in our film was a jazz piece; this is a typical genre of music used in film noir as it reflects the era the film is set.
