Title of the music magazine This is the main title for the music magazine which confirms the audiences anticipation of the music magazine, the title is in the generic top, left hand corner positioned. By positioning the masthead here is clearly seen which is important for the music magazine. The title dominates the total width like the contrasting music magazines nearly the whole over half which contrasts with the other three music magazines below which shows a definite identification of the music magazine.

The font of the title challenges forms and conventions of real media products. Because KERRANG has also got their font designed to match the name or target audience. Kerrang! has broken glass in the font, and my font has edges on it which contrasts to the name this challenges forms and conventions of real media products because they also do this and it also has a small letter like VIBe and BBC muSIC. The naming of the music magazine is best to be kept simple in order so I can attract the target audience and confirm the readers expectation. It is not important that is not original or not the same but that is relevant to the music magazine contents so the reader gets a better idea of what they are reading. This is the basics of the music magazine as it informs them what they actually reading for example VIBe definition is that it means it is lively music. The title of the music magazine has its skyline below the title this still makes the title more commanding and it has important information on the skyline also to tell the reader/ target audience what they are reading. The title in the other media products are also simple and clear to read so the reader can see it. This contrasts to the contents page and DPS. ,mag

Firstly I am looking at the front cover at this part of mise-en-scene parts of the images because it shows more about them. As you can see the main picture has a simple image that is has a basic sense about it, the rock star, background and guitar. The light colours on the images and font enhance the presence of the music magazine and is needed with the dark background that fits the target audience. A aspect that challenges the conventions of real music magazines is that the model has a guitar right next to it. This the case because males from my contrasting music magazines tended to be more of a object to be looked at as a key member of the band. I think that he has a guitar challenged the conventions of real media products and shows he has a musical talent. Also having a person on the music controls is also contrasting real music magazines conventions. As for the double page spread and front cover the lightning is different to the contents page where it is mostly inside. The colours are a lot colder and washed out this means the double page spread challenges the conventions of real media products. The contents page has a rock star playing on the piano this challenges real conventions of media products because most of them do not see them having a talent. Most of the models are wearing clothes which also challenges the conventions of real music magazines, they are for a functional purpose. The bright background of the DPS also challenges conventions of real media products. The radio instead of the word . challenges . conventions of real music magazines. .

I have chosen my front cover, contents page and double page spread (DPS) in order to show how they challenge or follow the conventions of real music magazines focusing on the three media magazine products. Firstly I will talk about the

costumes of the models. The first thing is that you notice is the simplicity of pictures this is because the target audience would generally wear this rather than impractical studio costumes. This was a decision made on purpose so the target

audience could relate to the characters. I decided to use clothing which would be stereotypical of the music genre that I was targeting the audience at which is male age of 15-28. The primary target audience will mainly be for males because of the genre but It can also be for females. The rock star on the contents page is in a suit this contrasts with the real media target audience. The people are in normal, basic clothes which could challenge the conventions of real music magazine media

products. The piano could challenge conventions of real media products as not many music magazines of this target audience have this.

People

I have decided to use the people in all my media products – Front cover, Contents Page and double page spread (DPS). They have a varied people so it is the best talking point. I believe my target audience challenges the way people are used that they are all behind walls. The main image contrasts with all the other ages which shows that the music magazine is suitable for lots of different ages that want to read the music magazine and also challenges conventions of other real music magazine media products that do not do this. Another aspect to consider when looking at the Music Magazine products is the male dominance all other three media products, this could tell the target audience that there is dominance of male which could attract more male readers to the music magazine is they will consider it more biased to men. This also develops forms of

real media products because they also they a male or female dominance in their media products which shows I should also use it in order to attract it to my target audience because other music magazine intuitions do it and it works.

Title and font style

The title and font of the music magazine is quite simple, clear and straight forward. It develops the conventions of real media products because of its strong capital letters that are used, this is furthered by the fact I have related the font of music magazine to the title by using a font that has edges, spikes coming out the letter shape. It is important that a contented vibe is made so the user knows what they are getting by reading the front cover. I would say the use of fonts on music magazines, which is black, white, dark red like used on Kerrang because the use of black is often considered boring I think it will stand out to the target audience. The colours are not to over powering because of the background they are in, white background has been put behind some of the empty spaces with letters in. I think the small letter in the title develops the convention of the music magazine because it shows there is no need for small letters. If the title was for example Unplugged or plugged I could have put a plug instead of the letter. The title challenges the conventions of Music Magazines like Kerrang because it has spikes which is related to the title, and KERRANG also has broken glass which is related to the target audience. I used a lot of different fonts in caps lock in order to attract the target audience. The font style on the DPS article is all mostly “Times New Roman” this makes it clear and easy to read and also develops forms of other media products. The fonts were often put white or changed colour in order to make it stand out against the dark background.

Written Content

The written content on my music magazine double page spread is important for it to be conforming to a standard feature of a article of a magazine. It uses standard writing techniques which include smiles, rule of three, pull/ grab quotes or short

sentences. The pull grab quotes of the music magazine are quite important because they spark the readers interest the music magazine reader. On the picture I could put a line through near the bottom it this develops the conventions of real music magazine as this is part one of music magazines Id researched and contrasted. I could also put a list down the side of the

music magazine showing all the latest information or gigs on top of movie clip recorder in order to encourage the reader to find out important information about my music magazine institution. I also put my title of the front cover and contents page

and this challenges forms and conventions of real media products because they also do this. He title of the DPS (Double Page Spread) is in a bright background which makes it stand out clearer.

The written content also follows the conventions because it is spilt in column, this is a standard presentational feature that allows the reader to read the target audience easily. The size of the music magazine double page article is 12. This is the

standard conventions of a magazine as it is used for a clear sense while reading, quickly and easily.

My music magazine shows the music magazine genre is suggested this is usually done by the use of stereotypical musical instruments that fit the target audience. Rock music tends to be associated with guitars or drums. I used a piano on my

contents page because it is not a common instrument this shows what the genre of the music magazine is. This develops the conventions of music magazine because it is not excepted to see. The suggestion of genre is also shown by other bands and magazines shown in the magazine. The genre is furthered by the name “Edge” which is shown in each page in my magazine through page numbers. The suggestion of Rock/pop/ indie music is emphasised even further by the pictures as they look like it

in this kind of genre.

Evaluation 1: In what ways does your media product, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products

Contents pageMy contents page conforms to the conventions of a music magazine. On my music magazine I put the magazine“CONTENTS THIS WEEK!”This develops the conventions of real media products because music magazines also use this such as Kerrang below, this challenges the forms and conventions of real music magazines because they also use this in order to show that this the music magazine, this week or month. The contents page also develops conventions by having lots of pictures on the page in order to show what the music magazine is about.

I have spilt the page into two columns even though it is designed for three. This challenges the conventions of real music magazines because they normally put theirs into three columns and with the enlargement on the side with pictures and contents it emphasises the page. By doing this it creates a organised page which is easier for the target audience to read. Also the font types on the contents page also develop forms and conventions of real media products because it shows what . The type of information is, for examples the fonts are in “Gill Sans Ultra Bold”. This develops forms and conventions of real music magazines because they also code . their fonts. The stories are also “Arial Rounded MT Bold”. The contents title is also layered out on top of the side of the music magazine, this also contrasts with other real music magazines because they also do at the side, this is useful so the reader. The type of pictures on the contents page challenge forms and conventions of real media products.
