EVENT NOTESVitality Westminster Mile Sunday 26 May 2019 Vitality London 10,000 Monday 27 May 2019
The Vitality Westminster Mile – now the world’s biggest timed mile – is a wonderful celebration of running for all ages and abilities, with thousands of families running together. Sir Mo Farah will again be there to cheer on the family waves and offer the chance to #RunWithMo.
New partnerships this year include the London United Wave with the community foundations of all 15 London football clubs, the Special Olympics Unified Mile and the Ruth Strauss Foundation Family Mile with Andrew Strauss and the England World Cup cricket squad.
In the year of the 65th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister’s first sub-four minute mile, we hope to see our first at the Vitality Westminster Mile, which is also the British Athletics One Mile Championships. Top GB miler Chris O’Hare and 800m specialists Elliot Giles and Jamie Webb lead the field. We are delighted that Laura Muir, one of the world’s leading female middle distance athletes, headlines the women’s race and she will face strong opposition from Melissa Courtney, Sarah McDonald and 800m specialists Shelayna Oskan-Clarke and Adelle Tracey.
Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill will be the official starter for the Vitality London 10,000 where Sir Mo Farah and Steph Twell are back to defend their British 10km titles while triathlete and Olympic silver medalist Jonathan Brownlee will be making his debut in the 10k race. Behind them in the mass field Bryony Gordon, Jada Sezer and a tribe of influencers with a social following of nearly five million will be running in their underwear in the Celebrate You campaign, which has inspired nearly 1,000 runners to sign up.
The Vitality Wellness Festival will be bigger and better than ever this year and highlights include England Cricket, England Netball, London United and BBC Super Movers with the Premier League Trophy, a Special Olympics activation zone, Guinness World Records Live and, of course, the ever popular Tumbleator.
For the first time, both events will be broadcast live on the BBC Red Button and streamed on other BBC digital channels, our channels and partner/sponsor channels. We’re working with Input Media and Radzi will be the onscreen presenter.
We’re looking forward to a fantastic weekend on 26-27 May.
MEDIA INFOEvent organisers and runners will be available for interviews on the day. More information and latest news stories are available at https://www.vitalitywestminstermile.co.uk/news-media/media-resources/
