#PlayForTheNextGen #greensportsPhiladelphia, PA | June 19-20, 2019
THE HIGHLIGHTSThe 2019 Summit focused on Playing for the Next Generation, where we gathered the players in the sports greening movement in Philadelphia to reflect on our past accomplishments, to celebrate our successes, and to make a renewed commitment to the future of the next generation.
The LEED Gold Certified Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles, played host to this year’s Summit and offered attendees a chance to visit and reconnect with one of the birthplaces of sports greening. The Philadelphia Eagles believe that the path to sustainability is a journey, not a destination and inspired Summit goers by telling their story--beginning with blue recycling bins under each employee’s desk and how it’s grown to a company-wide program. Summit attendees saw the Eagles’ World Championship Vince Lombardi Trophy during a locker room tour, explored back-of-the-house sustainability practices, and learned about the work the City of Philadelphia is doing to advance environmental and social justice initiatives within their region.
The Green Sports Alliance was proud to host a successful Summit in the City of Brotherly Love and remains committed to bringing together leaders throughout the sports industry at the Summit and new convenings in the future.

EXHIBITS Summit exhibitors follow best practices to reduce their impact:
• Exhibitors asked to use non-dated, event neutral designs so leftover items may be used at future events
• Exhibitors print signage and handouts through FSC-certified printers and/or paper made of post-consumer content and use non-chlorine inks such as vegetable or soy
• Exhibitor giveaways for attendees are utilitarian items that are sustainably made and recyclable
TERRACYCLE: TerraCycle generously donated Zero Waste Boxes™, which can collect and recycle almost any type of waste. TerraCycle provided boxes for exhibitors and attendees to dispose of items from shipping materials to coffee cups throughout the two-day event. Many of these items would have ended up in the landfill, and instead were sent to TerraCycle to be repurposed following the event. Lincoln Financial Field is now partnering with Terracycle for their waste needs as a result of this year’s Summit.
Through the generous support of ClimeCo, the 2019 Summit offset its environmental impact with the following:
• 10 Renewable Energy Credits (RECs)
• 172 Metric Tonnes CO2e carbon offsets (CO2E)
• 86 Water Restoration Certifications (WRCs):
• 86 CERTIFICATE #9991 06/28/2019
These certificates restore water to critically dewatered rivers and streams and helps restore the ecological, recreationaland economic health of critical freshwater ecosystems. All WRC projects are certified by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s strict set of criteria to ensure flow is restored to the environment in locations and at a time that will have optimum environmental benefit.
Equivalent to 86,000 gallons of water restored to critically dewatered rivers and streams or 17,200 standard 5 gallon water cooler containers.

The 2019 Summit was my first experience attending a Green Sports Alliance event. I found it extremely valuable. The topics and presenters were timely, relevant and informative. More important, the networking opportunities provided valuable connec-tions to learn from others who are addressing similar opportunities.CAROL MULLANYSenior Director of Sustainability and Logistics, University of Notre Dame
