Theres something about getting together for games that combines a good time with friends and the spark of competi- tion. The Sherwood Activity De- partment looks to include many different types of games each month to peak everyones interest. Games provide an opportunity to engage with others. Its a good thing to get to know people be- yond table mates in the dining room, or the neighbors in adjacent apartments. With the conversations that spring up during the games, people find others with similar in- terests, which can lead to great friendships. Its well documented in the med- ical research community that feel- ings of social isolation can lead to negative health outcomes as well as mental decline. While purpose of gathering for games primarily is to have a good time, the fact that there are health benefits ought not be discounted. The billiards table in the Cascade Room is a welcome addition to the activity roster. The opportunities that games provide to socialize, stimulate the brain, and even get some exercise can be very beneficial to everyone. Residents are always welcome to join in with the staff. Better yet, we invite you to get together with your friends and neighbors on your own and enjoy the fun and games any time here at Sherwood.

Walky-Talky — Daily beginning at 9:30 a.m. Walk around the building and chat with neighbors, while heading to the Activity Room for the exercise program.

Full Body Fitness — Standing or sitting, these gentle exercises will work you from stem to stern. Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays at 10 a.m.

Baking Cookies Monday, March 4 at 10:45 a.m. Help bake cookies for The Boys & Girls

Club kids for us all to enjoy when they come to read stories at 4 p.m. in the Library.

Sculpting with Catherine Monday, March 11 at 10:45 a.m. Catherine joins us to stretch your artistic talent. Plus it’s a fabulous “work-out” for the fine-motor muscles in your fingers.

Arts and Crafts “Shamrock” wall art — Part 1 Friday, March 1 at 10:45 a.m. and Part 2 Friday, March 8 at 10:45 a.m. Make your own message for St. Patrick’s Day to brighten up your holiday. This is a 2-part craft.

Water Color with Bonita Beginning — Tuesday, March 12 at 10:45 a.m. Advanced — Tuesday, March 19 at 10:45 a.m. Classes are in the Activity Room. Bonita helps each person flourish with gentle guidance.

Creative Writing with Judy Monday, March 18 at 10:45 a.m. Discover your inner author, share, and listen to people’s tales.

Paint with Carrie Tuesday, March 26 at 10:45 a.m. in the Activity Room. Carrie’s style of guided instruction makes painting fun and easy.

Sign up at Nurses’ Station for all outings. Guests are welcome on outings as long as all residents are seated first.

Port Townsend Aero Museum — Wednesday, March 6 at 1:15 p.m. Preserving aviation history in the Pacific Northwest, the museum has a collection of antique and classic aircraft. Admission is $9.

Walmart — Wednesday, March 6 at 1:15 p.m. Whatever you need, from snacks to notions, Walmart has it. Come get what you need, or just enjoy an afternoon out brows-ing around the store.

If you don’t want to go to the store, leave your list at the nurses’ station or with Christine in Activi-ties.

Lunch at the Old Mill Café — Wednesday, March 20 at 11 a.m. Located in Carlsborg and featuring a “home-style” menu, the café has great food in a rustic atmosphere.

Scenic Drive — Wednesday, March 27 at 2 p.m. The Olympic Peninsula is full of wonderous sce-nic vistas just waiting for us to ex-plore. Get on the bus and come see what nature has on display!

Olympic Driftwood Sculptors Show — Saturday, March 30 at 2 p.m. Gaze upon the beauty of these exquisite sculptures created from pieces of driftwood. There will al-so be artists on hand to demon-strate the sculpting process.

Sit and Be Fit — These are gentle, seated exercises which will give you a great workout. Mondays and Thursdays at 10 a.m.

Exercise Balloon — This exercise reaches and stretches arms and legs. Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m.

Walking Group — Take a stroll around the building. Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday at 1:15 p.m.

Travel to Nepal with Alicia Did you know that our med tech Alicia recently travelled

to Nepal? She worked in an elder care home in the Kathmandu Valley. Come to the

Activity Room on Friday, March 15 at 3:15 p.m. She’ll share pictures and stories of her amazing journey.

at 12 p.m. in the Activity Room

The Lodge Connection — Wednesday, March 6 at 10:45 a.m. in the Kensington Room. Enjoy a get together with friends and neighbors from The Lodge. They’re bringing donuts!

Men’s Group — Tuesday, March 5 at 2 p.m. in the Cascade Room. Time for the guys to enjoy good conversation and whatever else they discover along the way.

Women’s Group — Friday, March 15 and 29 at 10:45 a.m. in the Cascade Room. This group is open to the gals to get together to chit chat, and have a great time together.

Second Chance Store — The store is open from 1 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. Purchases can be made only with 2019 Sherwood Bucks.

Project Linus — Sunday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. Join Phyllis to prepare and make blankets for children in need. Even if you can’t knit or sew, there are still many helpful things you can do for this worthwhile project.

Resident Council Meeting — Thursday, March 28 at 10:45 a.m. in the Activity Room. The resident council meets for you to bring your suggestions or concerns to the meeting.

Glasses cleaning with EJ — Tuesday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the Kensington Room. EJ from Walmart Vision Center is here to spruce up your glasses. Get them cleaned, and adjusted.

Gentle Paws Canine Friends — Thursday, March 28 at 3:15 p.m. in the Activity Room. Sweet dogs of all sizes come for cuddles. These dogs are just fun to interact with and fill you with the warm fuzzies.

Snacks and Trivia — Sundays at 10:45 a.m. in the Kensington Room. Tickle your taste buds and challenge your mind with trivia. Test your knowledge of St. Patrick’s Day trivia on March 17.

Canine Cuddles with Rowdy — Monday, March 11 and 25 at 2 p.m. Please let Activities know if you’d like a room visit.

Read With Me — Boys & Girls Club — Monday, March 4 at 4 p.m. The children from The Boys & Girls Club are coming to read us stories in the Library.

We’d be remiss if we didn’t thank the employees who made it through to ensure our residents were warm, safe, and secure during the February snowstorm.

One of our residents wanted a snowman, so caregiver Jenn Tullock, along with Teia Hawkins and Floors Housekeeper Max Minturn sculpted a snowman to greet her through the window.

Martha plays hymns just for sheer love of music. The joy for all of us is that when she plays, the halls are filled with beautiful music.

The Creative Writing residents use the rooster that volunteer group leader Judy Duncan brought from Mexico to inspire their next round of stories. Once the writers are done creating their short stories, they each read their story aloud to the group.

Residents put the ingredients in the bread machine in the morning. After the aroma of baking bread wafted in the air for several hours, Evie Keysor, Retta Harris and other residents enjoyed the homemade goodness in the afternoon.
