ARCH 3501 : Architecture Design Studio 4 _ Fall 2011

Adapting the Mass

-Mass as Layers - skin, double skin, apertures, surface typology.

-Material Pallet - Concrete, metal typologies, glass, wood, grating, louvers, vegetated etc..

Be limited with material pallet. Select and repeat.

These material layers need to adapt to your axon diagrams as drawings and a catalogue of image swatches. The drawings should be broken down by layers and shown as exploded or describing particular systems. For example steel panel should be drawn.

Plan Iteration 3

Make corrections and additions based on in-class comments. Continue to develop your project in plan, Be sure that program and circulation is working, be sure that all stairs, elevator, ramps, bathrooms are located.

Continue controlling wall thicknesses based on your material and surface pal-lets.

Add Basic Overall Dimensions

Print Iteration 3 at 1/8”=1’

Study Model 1/8”=1’

Make minimum one model. You can produce iterations of sections of the model which can be plugged in.

Study model which reflects your material pallet and plan.

Describe through various material typologies thicknesses of walls and roof conditions. Material texture and representation is important. Concrete can be basswood or chipboard. Glass can be left void. If double skin use bass wood stick, museum board, bristol paper.

How you make the model is important to describe your ideas physically.

Only use laser cutter if necessary.

Digital Models

Your digital models should also be developing at the same time, it allows you to see scale within context. It also allows you to make quick section cuts to develop the plan.

Pin UP All Work to Date

All work to date should be layered, organized and pined up neatly on your sec-tion of the wall. Ready for you to present.

Assignment due 1:00 pm sharp. Work will be graded.
